It's not a real Calvin and Hobbes, but this is what immediately came to mind:

In the one on the last page, Hobbes is jealous he isn't getting any.

Hmm... that brings up something interesting, I wonder where I could find an analysis of the relationship between calvin and hobbes, and the personality hobbes has as an aspect of calvin projected onto the stuffed animal. Of course, there would be a lot of bullshit, but it could be interesting to read.

Question: Do kids today even know what it means to play classical music at 78 RPM?

Ah, but at least you know what a turntable is and what the comic is referencing.  It just seems to me that an increasing number of people would just have no idea what the joke is, because they don't know what it means to play something at 78.

^Who did that and where did it come from?

Also it would've been way better if Hobbes just tackled both of them.

edit: I really need to pay attention to what page I'm looking at. I'm referring to the one where calvin and suzie are getting it on.

Looking back over the strips it seems to me that the final strip of all is more sad now seeing as there were none written after it and it seems kind of empty.

It was the best gift anyone could have ever gotten me, according to the past few years of begging, ever since the set came out. And the kicker was that we'd only been dating two months and he knew without me saying anything how excited I'd be over it. Warm fuzzies.

Probably anything. For sure anything if she reads it with me.

Ooh! That one is definitely a keeper!

I could never decide on a single strip that could qualify as a favorite, but I talk about a bunch of my favorites on my Calvin and Hobbes site, Midnight Calvin.

A couple come in a close tie with each other:

The one with the guy being shot by the deer is incredible.  A man being shot dead, loudly and graphically, in the Sunday comics.  And not even in a "grownup" comic like Rex Morgan MD, but in a "kid's" comic.

Also, the lady shouting "AIEEE!! They got Frank!!" looks kinda like the adult version of Susie that we see sometimes.

It's debateable whether Calvin and Hobbes is a children's comic. It's been said that everyone gets some humor out of the strips, but some of the ideas presented and topics discussed are very adult in nature. Even the loss experienced by Calvin when he loses Hobbes, while understood by the children who have lost their favorite toy, can be experienced on a deeper level by the adults who have lost their best friend, whether through circumstances or through death.

On a more lighthearted note:

Ah, good point.  I guess I should have said "normally kid-friendly" or something, but you're right, a lot of what goes on in C & H is really only fully appreciated by adults.  Watterson's gift for capturing the kid mentality, and presenting it in a way that adults can totally relate to, is beyond amazing.  Kids just think it's funny.  Adults remember being like that, or knew someone like that.

Comic strip that was a newspaper series, kgb. I know Marvel and DC Comics put out some fantastic stuff.

But I swear to Christ if you say it was some kind of anime or manga, we won't be friends.  angry

I'm growing jaded. When I saw saw the Hobs/Hobs cartoon, my first reaction was "oh that old thing. No one's going to react all that much, everyone's seen it by now."

Edit: No one reacted nearly that much to the last page ending with teenage Calvin and Suzie taking eachother's clothes off.

That may be because a lot of people figured Calvin and Susie would end up together somehow, somewhen.

There are probably far fewer people who fantasized about Hobbes doing himself.
