Most Favorite Calvin and Hobbes strip

This one is probably my favourite, off the top of my head.



Really brilliant strip though.  I used to reread and reread the collections, and I have a lot of memories sitting with my mom, rolling around laughing, tears in our eyes after reading through a few.  The one I just posted is my mom's favourite strip as well.

I loved reading Calvin and Hobbes back in grade school, but I lost track of my books after moving around during college. I recently came across a couple of them that had been sitting in a box for almost ten years. They are still great I would read them all night, and cry because I was laughing so hard.

As for my favorites any of the snowman or Calvinball strips, but my number one is when Calvin was supposed to shovel the walk so he shovels the opposite way around the house leaving a coupld of large piles of snow in the path and a large pile behind the car. He they says, "If you do something bad enough the first time, they may never ask you to do it again."

Calvin's mom:  Maybe you should make your own sandwiches.
Calvin:  If you can't control your peanut butter, you can't expect to control your life.  Did you cut the bread diagonally?  [I quote the first sentence of that panel ALL THE TIME.]

I actually started doing that with the peanut butter after reading that strip a few years ago. My family doesn't, though, so my work is perpetually ruined.

That has allways been my favorite comic strip. I was introduced to C&H by my uncle, who actually gave me my first C&H books. I got the rest of his collection when he died, its hard to be sad when your laughnig so hard.

I dunno if anyone posted about it since i didn't read the whole thread, but the bit where Calvin finds the little rabbit or was it a raccoon? anyway the animal dies and he kind of has a little bit of a tough time dealing with it. I mean there are tons of funny ones out there, but this one was a little different so it kind of touched me someplace...

It was a bird, and I thought we'd discussed it here, but I guess I'm having imaginary repressed memories again.

Anyway, yeah, that was a good one, and as you pointed out, a bit different.  Watterson had actually found a dead bird and sketched it, which is why it's not in the regular C & H style, but he worked it into the strip so he could share it.  It was definitely interesting hearing Calvin's thoughts on the matter.

Tried searching that database on "bird" "dead" "alive" etc. with no results, but I'm positive it was a bird, because that is one of my favorites also.

That was a Sunday strip (the bird) There was a whole arc to Calvin and Hobbes finding a wounded Raccoon baby and it dieing. It makes me sad to think about.

But not as sad as the "modernized" version of the strip. That kills a bit of my childhood and makes me angry. Stomping around in the Angry dome angry.

This and pretty much all of the snow man strips. I swear, I own eleven of the books and I've read each like 5-10 times. Calvin and Hobbes is probably the best strip ever created, and it's a real shame that Bill stopped making them, but all good things come to an end.

Oh wow. That's actually a really awesome strip. I'm always amazed not only at what he got away with at times but also at his ability to be brilliant and perhaps subversive pretty much consistently even when he wasn't pushing the envelope of taste in daily comics..

The raccoon strip is very different from the bird strip.  I love that series and it's my favorite and I think it is very appropriate for my career (NICU RN) and I reread it often to help keep perspective.  Often times we have babies we can't save and this just puts it into words so nicely.

Well, I heart C&H, and before I registered, I couldn't browse the daily QC discussion, and this just made me have to post, especially since other people had mentioned the Raccoon Incident.  I have a "depressing" job, by most people's standards; the hospital I work at gets the worst of the worst and we don't get happy endings a lot of times.  But you learn to adjust what your definition of a happy ending is.  Maybe it's not the baby going home, perfectly healthy and fine, but maybe it's the baby going to heaven, being held and loved and comfortable and not being in any more pain.  I'm veering off-topic, but I love how a comic strip can address that, and still make it entertaining and meaningful.

Yeah, I've heard several doctors say the exact same thing (my dad used to be a surgeon so I got to visit the hospital a fair bit), and even seen one start crying when he read that strip. He was an oncologist, a tumor expert, so he is the one who always deals with telling people they have cancer. The strip just shattered him to bits. Watterson is a genius.

Calvin and hobbes has always been a staple in my life. As readily available as water. I think my favorite is when Calvin is told to make his bed and they spend all day inventing a robot to make it for them. It doesn't work, but they still didn't have to do the bed. That's funny on a level anyone of any age can understand.

My favorite is just one panel, and C&H are walking through the forest.  Calvin says something along the lines of "I think the most conclusive proof of intelligent alien life is that they're smart enough not to contact us."

Watterson is easily the biggest influence on my writing, and I loved so many of those storylines.  My absolute favorites would have to be the twisted snowmen strips.  One that always comes to mind is the snow cone strip that ends with Calving indicating "It was a sordid affair..."
