I don't know how many of you are Beatles fans, but Across the Universe is incredible! Has anyone else seen it? Due to the limited release, I haven't found very many people!

I feel as though this movie has already been discussed, but i can't seem to find the thread? (Maybe someone with wicked-mad search function skills could step in, or tell me I'm crazy...)
Anyway, I think it looks like it's gonna be -awesome-, but I'm pretty sure I won't get the opprounity to see it until it comes on DVD.

this shit is crazy. I remember seeing the trailer for it being played with Spider-man 3, and then freaking out near the end. IT started out nice and easy, and I started to feel like this trailer is wasting my time. Then at the end everything went to hell, the hugest acid trip I have ever seen while not actually under the influence. I may jsut see this movie for that acid trip feel.

I'm avoiding it based on how garish it seems and the fact that its conceit is incredibly overdone. If we could maybe not see another movie about young people fighting the oppression of society while finding true love in the sixties for maybe another ten years that would be more than fine with me.

I'm only one person and I simply don't have the budget these jokers had so I'm struggling to think of anything remotely this bad.
I think tonight I'll download some child pornography, a video editing suite and a few Rush albums.

I enjoyed it a whole lot.
They way overdid it on the Beatles references and the narrative seemed to get high and lose itself a lot, but it was pretty fun. Some really good covers in there. Some really not so good covers in there. Some amazing trippy visuals, though. The army recruitment office scene was amazing.

I heard praise about it from my sister, who saw it. Then again, she is of the impression that most movies that make it to the theater are good.
I'll just torrent it in a month or so, and then pretend I can do better Beatles covers. I'm such a bad person.

I saw it. Everything about Bono's cameo made me cringe (although it was funny how he just left them stranded in ass-nowhere because he just could not be bothered to give a shit), but most of it actually didn't offend me that much. All the identical square-jawed soldiers struck me as a bit more Devo than Beatles, though.

I really, really disliked it. If all of the covers and scenes were as good as I Want You (She's So Heavy), Revolution, and Strawberry Fields Forever, then the movie would have possibly been one of the best movies I have ever seen. Sadly, the rest of the movie was crap.

Johnny C: But then Cate Blanchett wouldn't have the chance to win ANOTHER Oscar . PS: On another note, I say they take the hatchet to the current revival of Elizabethan movies. PLEASE. Or at least Scarlett Johanssen. D: As for Across the Universe... eh. The ticket was paid for by a friend, so I didn't lose anything (save for the amount of time spent in front of the screen). Popular opinion is that the trailer is misleading, and I concur. I expected more than the contrived mess Julie Taymor "delivered." I think "vapid hollywood musical" pretty much sums it up.

Anywho. I just watched this on Netflix Instant View! I found it amazing, myself. Some of the covers weren't the best but they fit the mood of the scene. Now I'm going to go off listen to the Beatles. That is all.

Romantic relationships develop between Lucy and Jude, and between Sadie and Jojo. One night, Prudence (who seemingly holds a crush on Sadie) becomes depressed, and hides in the closet the entire night. Realizing where she is, the rest of the cast coax her out of the closet, showing that they completely accept her sexuality. This movie sounds fanTAStic!

I too enjoy witnessing other people's most cherished and beloved songs being brought to life in the most literal and artless way possible.

I thought the girl who played Sadie was amaaaaaazing. Jojo as well. Actually, I was pretty impressed with the whole cast.
And songs coming to life in a literal way? "Let it Be" was done in what I'd consider to be the exact opposite way that it was written and it was beautiful as a result. It wasn't a great movie, but I'd argue that it's pretty good.
The only thing I didn't like about the movie was getting hit over the head with song references that the filmmakers were afraid that we might miss.
"You might have murdered your granny with a hammer for all I know." Maxwell's Silver Hammer. Got it.
Later we see Max actually using a silver hammer. Seriously, we know where his name came from.
"She came in through the bathroom window!" Come on, now.

I agree, all the Beatles' references got kind of old. I thought they were clever at first but then I got tired of them.

Go listen to Abbey Road.
Why the hell would you want to see a movie as trashy looking as this if you haven't been listening to Abbey Road?
Abbey Road.
It's the best thing The Beatles ever did!
"I Want You (She's So Heavy)"
"Oh! Darling"
"Here Comes The Sun"
"You Never Give Me Your Money"
That entire side 2 medley.
"Her Majesty"
Go listen to Abbey Road!

Train of thought as I'm watching this trailer:
"funky indie film about moving countries" "Hippie film... god I hope this isn't about protest" "World changed? Sounds too political for me" "Gods this is turning into Requiem for a Dream; in 90 seconds.." "Uncle sam reaching out of his poster...?!" "wtf" *Brain melts*

This is the only one you mentioned that I don't get. It's a song. Nothing terrible about the line or the context, I was just getting tired of the "Hey, did you guys know we have Beatles songs in this movie?" bit. Why the hell would you want to see a movie as trashy looking as this
Because it's colorful and fun, and the lead cast did an amazing job.

Out of context. I can sort of maybe understand wanting to see this movie. I have no compulsion to, and I think it looks awful, but I can understand the impulse.
I can't understand it if you haven't listened to Abbey Road enough times to know where "She Came In Through The Bathroom Window" is from.
