Hey!
You've probably never posted on this messageboard, I'm guessing. Or maybe you have before, but not very much, and the new arc has brought you back to the forum and you've decided to check out the other boards. This is pretty awesome. There's a real well-rounded community here, and a large one at that, but we're always glad to have new members.
Of course, I say this with a caveat. The drawback to having such a large, established community is that there are already general rhythms & tones that the forum follows. As such, a new person jumping in without any preparation is effectively skinny-dipping nude in the Arctic, which at this time of year is especially dangerous. New threads get met as throwaways, new posters are met with scorn because they behave in a manner antithetical to the forum. Name-calling happens, resentment builds. It's not a pretty sight, and certainly no moderator likes dealing with it.
I'm not saying "go away," and I'm certainly not saying that, if you wandered over to the other parts of the forum and found your arrival met with harsh responses, it's your fault. However, I would like to give you some advice.
First,
if you're going to post outside of the Comic Discussion sub-fora, please spend some time lurking first. I doubt it surprises anyone that reading what other people have to say can lead to some valuable insight into the social workings of this forum.
When you do post for the first time, ask yourself:
"Is this what I really want to say?"
"Is this something other people want to read?"
"Is this weird or creepy? What would the Weekend Web think?"Feel free to message me or any other moderator/admin if you have any concerns. The moderators are Inlander, Trollstormur, E. Spaceman, Fruitkat, Ally and myself. The admins are Est, Pengraffe and Jammin' Jeph Jacques.
