I can forgive a couple of ska songs probably. I have a skip button like everyone else.

If it's a good mix, it's a good mix.

Your skip button won't work on my mixes because everything's crossfading...so I hope your fast forward works!

Can there be a promise made by the person who wins the american apparel prize that they will not purchase anything made of gold (or any colour, in fact) lamé, or those creepy, creepy body suits?

I think the promise should be that if someone wins they have to get the creepy gold body suit and post pics of themselves wearing it.

Ok, I finally got around to picking songs and stuff.  I was at what was essentially an epic barbecue/friend's 21st birthday earlier this summer, and I tried to pick songs that kind of fit the occasion.  The first one is during the cookout/copious drinking, the second is after most of the people left and we were sitting on a chair swing with a joint, and the third is the next day, when everyone was recovering.

Just a heads-up, the last track in the second one did not have a song title.  Ever.  The band just named it the number it was on the LP.

The Cookout:

"Summer", to me, hints at playing, loving and losing, and just plain lazing about.

This is the kind of sentiment I had in mind once I had a large selection of potential tracks and was looking to find some common factor by which to narrow it down. What I wound up with was my attempt at creating a conceptual album! It is based loosely on my experience of switching cities in the middle of one summer, and composed entirely of tracks that aren't mine! Isn't that crazy?

imagist42's The Hot Months: A Summer Mix

The Hot Months is (roughly) the tale of a wistful young man who has spent his life trying to find a life. He has reached a point in his life where, after trying everything he can from college to BASE jumping to discover some purpose beyond hanging out and having fun, he has settled into his quaint, old, and most importantly hot hometown for one last summer. After an initial bout of boredom, he discovers a nightlife hidden in the summer heat that he never knew--and along with it, an old flame. He and she do the whole courtship "thing" for a bit, but he ultimately finds that she wants a life vastly different from this comfortable, familiar one he has developed. She leaves, and the resulting fallout nearly destroys him and everything he has built up around him, until she returns for one last visit to help him come to terms with the fact that their fling wasn't exactly a stable relationship to begin with. In the process he realizes that he cannot stick around in the same old place forever, and as their last act together they head out of town in opposite directions, leaving nothing but shadows behind.

Code:
http://www.mediaf!re.com/?j4zncm9ixzz

Holy crap is it a pretty awful concept and so many times during almost every song the lyrics don't fit at all but it sure was fun to put together.

Sorry for the double post, but for anyone who's already downloaded my mix, I had to put up an updated version because the track numbering was a little wonky in iTunes (some tracks having "disc n of n" info in the tags put some tracks in a separate order before the real first track), and the album artwork didn't seem to import properly because WMP and iTunes don't like to play nice on that front. Should all be fixed, but just to be clear, "Army" should be the first track, and you should be looking at the above picture of a tree in a dead field (although that's not exactly a vital point to the mix).

Here's the new link (updated in the above post too):

I guess m4a is also applicable then.

Obviously, I can play either but I didn't want to penalise other people who might want to listen to these mixes but don't have iTunes.
WinAmp plays .m4as...

I wonder if I can sneak in mine in... 1 hour...

When you mentioned that you weren't going to listen to them until August, I knew it was going to take a while. I've listened to every single mix. Lots of good selections, everyone! Certainly made my summer more enjoyable.

I've also listened to them all (though I think Tommy's got more than us as some were sent privately).  I have a couple of clear favourites, but enjoyed something in nearly all of them, and found something to interest me (not the same) in every one.

Summer is meh for music. It's all about fall mixes. AKA "what order should I put all these Nick Drake songs in". But seriously, everything sounds better in autumn.

I made an autumn mix, and though I like it a lot, summer is lots of fun for music. You can put all the happy, fun, and even silly songs onto a mix and call it summery.
