Longtime lurker, first time poster:
Amesoeurs - Amesoeurs
This is the debut LP & sadly LAST LP of this wonderful French experiment. Multi-instrumentalist lunatic Niege injects haunting melancholic female vocals into his 80s post-punk inspired black metal sound with impressive results. I know it sounds crazy, but trust me. There is minimal vocal dissonance on this album, and a lot of it sounds very reminiscent of early The Cure. Highly recommended - title track alone is worth the cost of admission.

Rules:
No hot-linking images or albums. You can re-host images at
http://imageshack.us
.
Ensure your tags are correct and that you have specified both Artist/Album in your post.
Upload your files in either a .zip or a .rar archive to mediaf!re.com, in multiple parts if the album is over 100mbs. The reason for this is that we know mediaf!re is safe and efficient and allows multiple downloads. The ads on other sites, such as Sendspace, are known to contain viruses on the page. Get yourself checked out.
Post your link using code tags. It's the # icon above the policeman emoticon. This prevents the links from being traced back to the forums, lowering the chance that the wrong people notice the thread, potentially threatening Jeph with legal action.
Also, please do NOT request albums. This includes requests for re-uploads; if you miss it, try looking for it somewhere else.
Repost the rules at the top of each new page.

Here's some more Peter Broderick. I can't get enough. I hope you feel similarly...
Peter Broderick - Ten Duets
Code:
http://www.mediaf!re.com/?2wy2d3nojel
This is a super hard to find vinyl-only release. It's ten tracks, but as it's a vinyl rip, it's two files. The first being side A, the second being side B. Super beautiful, quiet, sweet instrumental stuff.
Peter Broderick - Float
Code:
http://www.mediaf!re.com/download.php?j4yztrjijdj
This album has vocals. Again, wonderfully sad & hopeful music.

ANTITAINMENT - nach der kippe pogo? (- translation: after this cigarette, pogo!?)
soundslike : always compared to horse the band, but i would say :progressive keyboardpunk with smart, german lyrics (no dumb slogans. sarcastic comments on society). i like it very much. if you are interested in a translatin of the lyrics let me know.

Found this link to the Joan of Arc album supposedly coming out sometime this June. Some people probably have it already, but I thought that the others might be interested. It is on Rapidshare, so it might bother some, but hopefully it's not a huge problem since it seems like a waste to reupload it just to get it onto a different provider. I can if anyone is having problems with it, though.

In honor of Bob Mould's recent release,
Life and Times
, here is...
Sugar - File Under: Easy Listening
Code:
http://www.mediaf!re.com/?jwm5yzyzijo
Released in '94, FU:EL is easily the poppiest album Bob and his collaborators ever put out, but then, I think the whole idea of Sugar was to be more accessible than Hüsker Dü to begin with. Still, the music is textured with wall of distortion guitars and Bob's heartfelt vocals, better than the majority of your typical mid-90s fare.

Two albums from bands that I have been waiting for them to put out an actual albums for a long time.
We Were Promised Jetpacks - These Four Walls (2009)
Similar sound to Frightened Rabbit, on account of the fact that they have Scottish accents as well. If you aren't a fan of FR, then you shouldn't bother checking these guys out.
Code:
http://www.mediaf!re.com/?qdmzoqyljun
Great Eskimo Hoax - Of Many Victories (2009)
They make catchy music. Unfortunately they did not put three of my favorite songs on this CD, which is their debut. It is still a good album to just listen too and tap you fingers. Of course there are a couple slower songs, with a kind of folksy sound to them.
Code:

Quote
Great Eskimo Hoax are a Bewdley (Worcestershire) band formed by childhood friends Joe, Dom, Andy during their time at secondary school. They write atmospheric folktronica songs with catchy angular melodies and harmonious vocals.

Hey guys!
Last.fm did some good. I was tuned to Calexico and Iron & Wine station, and this popped up:
Billy Bragg and Wilco
Back in 1995, Nora Guthrie took a bunch of song lyrics written by her dad (Woodie Guthrie) to Billy Brag who then talked to Wilco about making songs for them. In 1998 they released this album.
They're quite excellently folky, so here be the album.

That is an awesome review what are you talking about?
(Although possibly not the most informative)
Then it's not really a helpful review. If I'm reading a review, I don't want to hear that this album is "like silently opening and closing an umbrella while staring at your dying grandfather." All that tells me is that someone, somewhere, doesn't like their grandfather. It tells me nothing of the album.

New project from ex-Pitchfork/Drive Like Jehu/Hot Snakes frontman. Surprisingly reminiscent of his ex-bandmate John Reis' new band The Night Marchers. For those who haven't heard aforementioned bands/musicians, this is a melodic take on garage rock/punk, and it's FUCKING AWESOME.
I've also thrown the songs off their first 7" in there as well. Enjoy!

These guys are pretty varied, but most simply they're electro-rock with experimental leanings, but all awesome. Check them out. This is a double cd and I didn't wanna split it up 3 times and megaupload kept locking up, so I'm reposting someone else's links. Ya wanna fight about it?

Here is some Thelonious Monk, in chronological order. The last album,
Solo Monk
, is truly beautiful.
Note: Some of the tracks are titled with addendums in parenthesis, such as "Reflections (Alone)" or "Monk's Dream (1952)" just to distinguish between different versions of them in iTunes. Otherwise they show up as duplicates. Deal with these as you wish, they are not actually part of the song titles. Of course, the take number in the title is a different story.
Thelonious Monk
Quote
Backed alternately by bassists Percy Heath and Gary Mapp and drummers Art Blakey and Max Roach, Monk unleashes his idiosyncratic piano lines against a spare backdrop. Beautifully rendered, the opening seven minute version of "Blue Monk" is a highlight of the album, oddly combining disharmonic riffs within a melodic and very memorable structure. It's followed, surprisingly, by a rather tepid version of "Just a Gigolo," more lounge than jazz in execution. The set picks up again, however, on "Bemsha Swing" and later with a noisy "Little Rootie Tootie," another fascinating study in dissonance with some great drum work by Blakey. The small settings used on all ten pieces feature intricate interplay between bass, drums, and piano. They allow the necessary space for Monk's explorations, which evoke a sublime beauty as they build order out of chaos.

Thelonious Monk and Sonny Rollins
Quote
This disc contains an all-star cast headed up by Thelonious Monk (piano) and includes some collaborative efforts with Sonny Rollins (tenor sax) that go beyond simply inspired and into a realm of musical telepathy. "Nutty" and "Work" utilize Monk's uncanny and distinct sense of melody in a small trio with Monk, Art Blakey on drums and Percy Heath playing bass. Blakey's rollicking percussive contributions at times become thrust between Monk's disjointed chord work. However, the undeniable highlight is the interaction between Monk and Rollins with slightly larger bands. Leading off the disc is a definitive and freewheeling reading of the pop standard "The Way You Look Tonight." Equally as scintillating is "I Want to Be Happy," both of which are also highlighted by Art Taylor (drums) and Tommy Potter (bass). They provide a supple and unencumbered framework for the soloists to weave their inimitable and often contrasting contributions. The final track is the beautifully dissonant and extended "Friday the Thirteenth," which is ironically the first fortuitous collaboration between the two co-leads. Rollins is able to entwine a sinuous lead throughout Monk's contrasting chord counterpoint.

Brilliant Corners
Quote
There is an inescapable freshness and vitality saturated into every measure of every song on Brilliant Corners. The passage of time makes it all the more difficult to imagine any other musicians bearing the capacity to support Monk with such ironic precision. The assembled quartet for the lion's share of the sessions included Max Roach (percussion), Sonny Rollins (tenor sax), Oscar Pettiford (bass), and Ernie Henry (alto sax). Although a compromise, the selection of Miles Davis' bassist, Paul Chambers, and Clark Terry (trumpet) on "Bemsha Swing" reveals what might be considered an accident of ecstasy, as they provide a timeless balance between support and being able to further the cause musically. Likewise, Roach's timpani interjections supply an off-balanced sonic surrealism while progressing the rhythm in and out of the holes provided by Monk's jackrabbit leads. It's easy to write Monk's ferocity and Forrest Gump-esque ingenuity off as gimmick or quirkiness. What cannot be dismissed is Monk's ability to translate emotions into the language of music, as in the freedom and abandon he allows through Sonny Rollins' and Max Roach's mesmerizing solos in "Brilliant Corners." The childlike innocence evoked by Monk's incorporation of the celeste during the achingly beautiful ode "Pannonica" raises the emotional bar several degrees. Perhaps more pointed, however, is the impassioned "I Surrender, Dear" -- the only solo performance on the album. Brilliant Corners may well be considered the alpha and omega of post-World War II American jazz. No serious jazz collection should be without it.

Alone in San Fransisco
Quote
What is most immediately striking about these recordings is the rich and accurate sound stage at Fugazi Hall. The overtones are rich and thoughtful in their ability to animate Monk's recreations of some of his most endearing works, such as the pair that opens this set. "Blue Monk" still retains the proud stride and walking blues heritage of previous renderings. Adding a bit of off-tempo improvisation, Monk propels and emphasizes the rhythmic swing even harder. He is obviously also enjoying what he is hearing. The audible maturity guiding Monk through the familiar, albeit offbeat, chord progressions of "Ruby, My Dear" is striking. His nimble reflexes and split-second timing render this version superior. It is unfortunate that the playful solitude of "Round Lights" was never revisited. This freeform composition is framed within a blues structure, yet reveals all of the slightly askew freedom of a Monk original. The recreation of an old 1920s hit, "There's Danger in Your Eyes, Cherie," is another of the highlights from Thelonious Alone in San Francisco that was never recorded again by Monk. The noir qualities are immeasurably enhanced by Monk's oblique phrasings as well as the eerie resonance of the Fugazi. This is an absolute must-own recording -- Monk enthusiast or not.

Monk's Dream
Quote
Monk's Dream is the Columbia Records debut release featuring the Thelonious Monk Quartet: Monk (piano), Charlie Rouse (tenor sax), John Ore (bass), and Frankie Dunlop (drums). Jazz scholars and enthusiasts alike also heralded this combo as the best Monk had been involved with for several years. Although he would perform and record supported by various other musicians, the tight -- almost telepathic -- dimensions that these four shared has rarely been equalled in any genre. On tracks such as "Five Spot Blues" and "Bolivar Blues," Rouse and Dunlop demonstrate their uncanny abilities by squeezing in well-placed instrumental fills, while never getting hit by the unpredictable rhythmic frisbees being tossed about by Monk. Augmenting the six quartet recordings are two solo sides: "Just a Gigolo" and "Body and Soul."

Solo Monk
Quote
The mystery and haunting angular beauty of Thelonious Monk's unadorned keyboard sides are the focus of Solo Monk. As if possessing the history of jazz in his hands, Monk's solo recordings and performances from every phase of his career remain pure. The components of what made Monk such an uncompromising composer, arranger, and especially bandmember are evident in every note he plays. On an emotional level, these sides arguably surpass many of his band recordings. "Sweet and Lovely" contains several passages that are played with the command and intensity usually demanded of a classical work. The intense yet sophisticated chord progressions that punctuate "Ruby, My Dear" transform what once were simple pop melodies into unaccompanied rhapsodies. Monk transforms the solitude of "Everything Happens to Me" into a minor bop masterpiece replete with his signature disjointed phrasings and variable pacing.
