I should be seeing Cottonmouth tomorrow (awesome local band), the Mae Shi in August, but, rather more excitingly, I got an e-mail telling me that I have won tickets to see Death Cab For Cutie on Monday. I never win anything.
This will hopefully make up for the rather odd Jaguar Love gig last week, and will pretty much make my year...although I'm slightly gutted that the intended support band (I Was A Cub Scout) split up a couple of weeks ago. Even if I did witness their incredibly uncomfortable disintegration on stage before it happened.
Still.
Death Cab.
Free.

I am pretty happy right now.

I bought a ticket to see Jonny Lang yesterday. I don't care what anyone says, I have loved his music for the longest time and I am finally going to see him live. It is going to be great.

I love Patti Smith but the immediate response will always be "Damn, she's still alive?" in my head.

dalconnsuch, how were the Dandy Warhols? I'm looking forward to seeing them in September.

I caught Download Fest last weekend for $21 including hidden fees at the Gibson Amphitheater (thanks to $10 fan appreciation tickets from livenation)
Meaning I saw The Jesus and Mary Chain, Gang of Four, MuteMath, RJD2, Caribou, Mates of State, Kaki King, Yeasayer, M83, Tapes 'N Tapes, Datarock, and others in a 9 hour time span for the price of a normal show. I might add that I was in the pit. Great day.

And I decided to put a more fleshed out version of my list up... I tried to keep it to one show a day and one night per artist*
If you live in the Southern California Area, listen up:

August
3- Boris at the Echoplex
5- Conor Oberst at the Troubadour
14- Octopus Project at the Knitting Factory, or Xiu Xiu at the Echo
23- Sunset Junction Street Festival- BSS, Castledoor, Cold War Kids, Menomena
24- Sondre Lerche at the Troubadour
25- Second night of Radiohead at the Hollywood Bowl
26 -Bon Iver at the Troubadour
27- Radiohead in Chula Vista

September
2- The Wombats at the Echoplex
4- Why? at the Echoplex
9- Mogwai wit h Fuck Buttons at the Wiltern
12- Mirah & Spectratone International at the Troubadour
13- Aesop Rock at the Troubadour
17- Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds at the Hollywood Bowll
18- Vampire Weekend at the Wiltern
19- (through the 20)- Street Scene Fest 08': with... Beck/ The Black Crows/ The National/ Spoon /Justice/ TV on The Radio/ Atmosphere/ Cat Power/ Tegan and Sara/ Hot Chip/ The New Pornographers/ Vampire Weekend/ Man Man/ Tokyo Police Club/ Foals/ MGMT/ Does It Offend You, Yeah?/ others...
20- Beck and Spoon and MGMT at the Hollywood Bowl
21- My Morning Jacket at the Greek
22- The Raconteurs at the Greek
23- Okkervil River at the Fonda, Raconteurs at the Greek
26- Silver Jews at the Echoplex

October
1- Stars at the Avalon
2- Sigur Ros at the Greek Theatre
24- Girl Talk at the Fonda

*Radiohead is a special case.

Now that I know I will be in Austin until November I am somewhat excited about Cut Copy coming on September 29th. I would be all over ACL but the 3-day passes are all gone, and I'm not excited about nearly enough bands to justify paying $80 a day, even for one day. This means I will miss out on Okkervil River yet again, but, well, they're not eighty dollars important to me.

So, yeah, I'm getting excited about Cut Copy.

Yeah, they played in Austin the next night. I had a good enough time with Wintersleep (they're far less danceable than Wolf Parade, so a lot of the crowd were agitating for their set to end from the beginning) but Wolf Parade definitely made the show.

Yeah, I mean, if I had heard of Wintersleep before I probably would've enjoyed it much more when theyw ere playing, but I downloaded some of their stuff and it's halfway decent. But yes, Wolf Parade provided so much energy and awesome music. Spencer Krug seems so modest and shy though, like every time the crowd went crazy applauding after a song he was just quietly like "Thanks, you guys are nice." But their encore was the best part of the whole show.

Just because it happens to be on a Tuesday. Oh well still got almost 2 months to find a backup plan.

I missed out on all four New York shows when trying to order online but a friend of a friend is willing to sell me a ticket face value for September 18th in New York. Holy shit I'm excited!! I was sure I was going to miss this whole tour and not be able to see them for a few years minimum thanks to their impending hiatus.

I think I'm seeing Sigur Ros as well.

I say I think because if all goes as planned, I will have press passes, but if all does not go as planned, I will not.
I should say though, that I am going to try REALLY fucking hard to make sure all goes as planned.

I was supposed to see The Arcade Fire/ LCD Soundsystem at the Hollywood Bowl last year. But things didn't go as planned, and i was quite upset.
This upsettness will be like 100x if I can't see Sigur Ros.

And I'm not even going to start talking about how excited I am for Radiohead in Chula Vista.

Other Bands I am really excited to hopefully see (in no particular order):
Okkervil River, Broken Social Scene, Mogwai, Stars, Octopus Project, Aesop Rock, The National, Beck, Menomena, TV on The Radio, The New Pornographers (for a 2nd time), Vampire Weekend, Man Man, Deerhoof, Girl Talk, The Dodos, M83,Presidents of the United States of America, quite a few others

Kanye was a big disappointment for me this summer.  Sigur Ros too.

Zappa plays Zappa (which I just noticed Jeph went to see) was crazy awesome.  Derek Trucks & Susan Tedeschi Soul Stew Revival has probably been the best show on tour all summer for me.  I've seen them 3 times and each one has been even better.

This weekend coming up is a small festival in Asheville.  Trinumeral:  Galactic (still my favorite band), EOTO with Michael Kang, the Booty Band, and I'm very excited about Lotus and Particle.  Should be a good weekend.

Dammit you guys that are seeing Sigur Ros and Broken Social Scene, they won't come down here.... The closest place BSS is playing is Missouri, I might just make the pilgrimage.

I'm also mad because Yndi Halda is coming to Denton while I'll be back around Houston, and when they come to Houston it'll be at a 21-up bar.
