Mcmotherfuckinglusky, excluding the "motherfucking" part I added because they are so gat dam good.

Listen here and here.

Also, as a fan of both webcomics and punk rock, you might enjoy Nothing Nice to Say (if you aren't already) - it's currently not updating, but there is a load of archived comics that are ridiculously funny.

Branch out into some early thrash metal if you want to try something new in terms of music with heavy punk elements. Stuff like "Kill 'Em All" by Metallica.

As for more blatant old-school punk from the 70s and such, I couldn't say. My preferred music from that time period is the hard rock and the NWOBHM eruption.

On that note check out Iron Maiden's first two albums, s/t and Killers. its early metal, but with a definite punk feel.

As long as you don't mind harmonised melodies and searing solos, then Iron Maiden's first two albums would indeed be appropriate for someone who likes punk music. Although, keep in mind that the punkishness is largely articulated through the vocals, so if you're into the simple power of punk riffage then Iron Maiden is not for you in any shape or form.

Threads like this make me cry. I'm just gonna say 'Dude, Funhouse' and then piss off.

Dude, Funhouse.

P.S. I second Minor Threat. I also add to that list Camper Van Beethoven, Black Flag, Minutemen and Sonic Youth.

Black Flag, Minutemen and Sonic Youth.

Second'd.

I was going to say Fugazi, but then I thought Minor Threat would be a better suggestion.  I also agree with just about everything else mentioned in here, especially Mission of Burma.

Jerry's Kids, or at least the Is this My World? album. Jerry's Kidz is also pretty good. Fuck Boston, Braintree, MA was where it was at in the 80's. D.Y.S. and S.S.D. are shit compared to Jerry's Kids, Gang Green and Siege.

There's also the Dicks, The Big Boys, The Dead Kennedys, Deep Wound, Anti-Cimex, The Stalin, Bastard (from Japan and Bastards from Finland). There are others but I'm in an old-school hardcore mood right now.

I was going to add Marquee Moon to those albums up there when I first did them, but I figured that wasn't "punk" enough.  Oh well.  It's a fuckin' righteous album.

When most people say 'Indie' they mean 'Lo-fi that is derived from Joy Division and Pavement'.  With the more expansive definition of 'Anything underground' it's way easier to get into indie.  I didn't see the appeal of Joy Division and Pavement until later, and they're still not remotely my favorites.

Punk, I'd have to go with the early 80s stuff like X, Gang Of Four, Mission Of Burma, The Fall, etc.

God reached his hand down from the sky,
He flooded the land then He set it on fire.
He said, "Fear me again. Know I'm your father.
Remember that no one can breathe underwater"

So bend your knees and bow your heads
Save your babies, here's your future.
Yeah, here's your future!

God reached his hand down from the sky
God asked Noah if he wanted to die,
He said "No, sir!
Oh, no, sir!"

God said, "Here's your future:
It's gonna rain!"

So we're packing our things,
We're building a boat!
We're gonna create the new master race
Cause we're so pure,
Oh, Lord, we're so pure!
So here's your future!

God told his son, "It's time to come home
I promise you won't have to die all alone.
I need you to pay for the sins I create."
His son said, "I will but Dad, I'm afraid!"

Yeah, so here's your future!
Here's your future!
Yeah, here's your future!
So here's your future!
So here's your future!
So here's your future!

The Thermals!  Fuck yeah!

A long, long time ago, in the mediaf!re thread, someone posted an album entitled Disco, by a band called Red 40.  Their sound is very similar to that of Jawbreaker, but I am pretty sure I listen to it more than I do Jawbreaker.

I am also going to throw down the Dillinger Four, and The Ergs!

Heavy, technical, progressive, power, math, metal.

Basically metal with any of those put in front of it. And all sorts of other stuff that's been tantalisingly waved in front of me recently. Smiley

I'm not really much of a punk guy, more metal-oriented, when I listen to punk, I tend to listen to post-punk, bauhausish stuff. To add to Alex's suggestion of Kill 'em all, I add early Overkill, they started as a punk band called "The Lubricunts", they changed their name and played some of the first thrash metal, which still had quite a punkish feel. I honestly don't know why it was that punk and metal seem to have such a rivalry, they share a lot of influences. Then again, I mostly know thrash metal, which is where the line tends to blur the most.

When I think of "aggressive" guitar music, I just can't think of anything more aggressive than Jehu and Hot Snakes, what with Froberg's tortured scream over everything.  The Jesus Lizard wouldn't have been a bad choice either, I guess.  Or Big Black.

Does anyone know the song The Boy With the Arab Strap by Belle and Sebastian? I find it oddly calming, yet still warm and fun, and with a fun and distinguished beat. If someone can recommend more songs like that to me I would be eternally grateful.
