Read today's comic, immediately Googled SFCRA because my hearts all twitterpated at the idea of a steam punk band only to learn that they don't exist. Crying ensues. And I'm not the only one, apparently lots of folks are salivating for a steam punk band and are sorely disappointed. Someone should get on this ASAP!

I too was terribly disappointed. I can't wait for someone to take initiative.

Just inventing the instruments would cost an arm and a leg
imagine a steam powered guitar amp! *drewl*

Some of the interments already exist. A calliope would be essential, as would a theremin.

For steampunk bands, check out Abney Park or Vernian Process

I'm not the biggest fan of steampunk stuff, but I was epically stoked to not only find out what the fuck a melodithurge is, but also to see one play a "totally bitchin' steam-whistle solo."
My dreams were shot down on both accounts.

I must say that i created an account after also Googling Society for Creative Rock Anachronism....
Disappointing.
But, i have always been interested in steampunk-ing things, including my guitar. But Ibanez already offers some pretty cool ones.
This would be an amazing thing.

Oh man, what a huge disappointment. I was really exited for a second. If i had an ounce of musical talent i would start a steampunk band.

I was actually more surprised that SCRA didn't stand for Smif College Resident Advisor, like Marten had gotten a free shirt from somewhere around campus.

I, too, immediately looked it up, and simply found a random posting somewhere where others aired their nameless grievance.
That would be the most awesome thing evar.

The title of the comic is "Like a Warlock, only he summons Organs."
Also, "Okay, so, according to wiktionary:
Melody - tune, sequence of notes that makes up a musical phrase.
(
http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/melody
)
Theurge - one who works miracles, or persuades a god or spirit to perform supernatural work.
(
http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/theurge
)
Melodithurge - one who works miracles with a tune, or channels an unearthly ability to do so."
So effectively, the lead guitarist, but instead of a guitar, a steam whistle.
