i fucking love electro/techno/trance/house whatevs. it's harder for me to like a whole album though because this genre seems so single based? maybe that is how i perceive it, but if you're lookign for a more trance feel, try dj tiesto, deep dish, andain...

Future Sound of London (Especially their ISDN album) and Nightmares on Wax (I recommend the Carboot Soul album as a starter) really belong on that list. Oh yeah... and Telefon TelAviv. Pretty much any of their albums are pure aural gold.

If you're looking for something that is just upbeat and catchy, I have to suggest United State of Electronica. I've been listening them quite a bit lately, and they just sound really happy sounding. They only have one album, but it might be worth looking into.

I enjoy some Eurotrash techno myself-Basshunter. I would suggest that you check out Ratatat ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SBedwedu01k ). Very good stuff, for both mellow (electronica meets rock) and some dance. However any chance I could get some recommendations for Basshunter-ish musicians? Thnx.

I would try Egadz! and Azeda Booth. I haven't seen them mentioned and they really should be, and seem to fit in with the music that you tend to listen to.

That Ishkur guide is actually one of the least pretentious explanations of the various subgenres of electronic music you'll ever hear, it's quite aware of the arbitrariness of a lot of the distinctions and doesn't have a lot of airs like most serious electronic music fans you'll meet.
It's been a year but I'ma call foul on this one. The Ishkur guide, while comprehensive, is awash in the same speechifying that you'll find from any serious electronic music fan. Everybody's got their little cubby hole in the expanse of the genre. You just replace "pretention" with "populism" and you end up with this guy whinging about how even though Trance is total bollocks now it's really great, you have to appreciate its roots, and at the same time talking shit about William Basinski or Stars of the Lid and questioning whether they even make music. If you're going to get into whether or not something is actually music, you should not be given a website that is even remotely considered authoritative by anyone. Really the whole rift between clubrats and headphone kids, hip hop-derivative fans and electro-derivative fans is pretty funny. Musical politics.

I thought it was pertinent to mention in this thread that I uploaded the new Shpongle album in the mediaf!re thread (one page behind the current page). It's fucking awesome. If you want the word "psychedelic" associated with your electronic music at all, it's basically first on the list of stuff you should listen to.

My kind of thread, I have nearly all of what is being listed. Apart from the dubstep, because dubstep is shit. Invented in Croyden which is right near me and one of the scrattiest Chav ridden place in Greater London, every tune has the same damn bass line WAGGAWAGWAGWAG and sounds nearly exactly the same. My addition will The Flashbulb AKA Flexe His music varies greatly between albums, breakcore, ambient (not my thing), classical. He's one of the few people who can make good chilled breakcore tracks. An exampleEchoing casull, BT has some very good tracks. Rose of Jerichoand lol Pendulum... although I have seen them live. For the best DnB check out anything on the Hospital Records label, my favorite being High Contrast. bogdan raczynski who's on Aphex Twins label also has a few good tracks. As far as House goes I heard some decent 16bit Lolita's tunes at this club the other night, checked out a few more of their tracks over the weekend and dig quite a few.

16 Bit Lolitas are excellent, Anjunadeep is a great label.. although I prefer the -beats tracks, trance being my thing.
Every tune on Anjunadeep:01 is an instant classic though.

Gotta give a Flashbulb album a listen through to get him really, style changes from track to track. Hardcore breakcore and classical tracks on the same album sometimes, I actually like the classical ones which is a genre I've never paid any attention to. Not counting StarWars. Amok, if trace is your thing have you ever heard of Terra Ferma? The Adventures of... from the album of the same name. I had to add this one to >_>

Hey, hey, I have a question? Yes, I do!
Okay, this seems to be fairly electronica based because I haven't seen it in any other genre. Okay, you might see artists collaborating on a song, but what does it mean when they're 'versus'? I'm curious because on this Matrix soundtrack (or maybe Matrix Revolutions, too lazy to check right now), it has a song by "Juno Reactor vs. Don Davis" and then also some songs by "Juno Reactor AND Don Davis". What's the difference?

If I see "vs." I tend to think it's a remix as opposed to a collaboration. I'm thinking specifically of 21st Circuitry's The Remix Wars series (e.g., Wumpscut vs. Haujobb) and Techno Animal Versus Reality. That being said, I can't imagine that's a hard-and-fast rule to anyone.

Maybe it's just because you were using onomatopoeia I don't really hear in a lot of tracks. Try these on for size, they're infinitely better than the first track you linked to and better than Chase & Status: Burial & Four Tet - MothBurial & Four Tet - Wolf Cub (doesn't even have the wagwagwag sound as far as I can tell) Kode 9 & Spaceape - 9 Samurai

Is that Burial & Four Tet stuff really dubstep? So chilled, it sounds really similar in style to some progressive house tunes I've heard example Not bad, reminds me of raga jungle. Piper: Junkie XL does a decent Still Alive (Mirror's Edge) remix to, although I prefer this Teddybear one.

Yeah, it's dubstep (the moth track certainly is), Burial just has a more mellow, haunting sound. It's all to do with time signatures and shit as well, so I hear.

Yep. The SSX games all had pretty good soundtracks but 3 was one of the best. I think On Tour was slightly better though.

XGRA: Xtreme G Racing Association has one the best electronica soundtrack of any game I've heard. Lots of BT tracks, but apart from that has these two gems. Proactive The Rush(btw Proactive makes for an awesome Audiosurf level)

Holy shit I remember that song from mtv days way back when. I've been thinking about that song once in a while, casually wondering what its name was and by who it was.
It's like something within me has finally been laid to rest.
