Animals as Leaders - "Soraya"
Great DC-based prog. It actually might be some of the only prog I'm willing to listen to. The "drums" sound surprisingly okay, too.

yea yeah., I can see the "bites" comparison. 1, 2 ASSIMILATE....heh I had that on cassette in the mid 80's. Had a roommate what had some of the later stuff and i did not really like it. But yes, this was a good thing to have at work. I'm pretty sure I would have choked a #$%^&* in a meeting today w/o it.

Squirrel Bait E.P by Squirrel Bait. like mid-period Husker Du meets early Replacements in a scuzzy basement. really quite good! i bought it mainly for the name (and because i vaguely knew my uncle had a few of their vinyls and he has generally awesome taste in 80s punk/rock), but i'm really liking this!

Currently, the german soundtrack of the 80ths Anime Series "Captain Future". Especially, the Song "Space Battle". Christian Bruhn's Moog at its best, together with some bass guitar and drums... best Space Funk ever ;o). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=so4E2EpXNGUOh. flitting through a few of my favourite tracks off of "Phenomenology" by The Blueprint. they were a british "supergroup" of sorts, featuring guys from pitchshifter, consumed and the awesome Karl Middleton, vocalist of earthtone9. kinda punk/post-hardcore/rock with a sorta nu-metal edge, in the production more than anything. REALLY good though.

I've never been able to get into Cynic. Sean Malone always seemed like he was just trying too hard to be Jaco and I just couldn't deal with that. He does a pretty good Jaco impersonation, but it lacks the spark that made Jaco a great musician.

Passion Pit - Manner (still so excellent) Do Make Say Think - The Other Truths (undecided) The Very Best - Warm Heart of Africa (not bad by any means) The Flaming Lips - Embryonic (fantastic trip) High Places - 03/07 - 09/07 (I listen to this all the time at night) Princeton - Cocoon of Love (this annoyed me for so many reasons) jj - jj n° 2 (another CD I've been listening to a lot lately) Cass McCombs - Catacombs (A+; Lionkiller Got Married is such a sexy song)
That's basically what I've listened to yesterday and today.

I couldn't get into that stuff either... But then again, I'm not a real fan of metal being progressive. There are some exceptions though. ____ I'm listening to Mayhem - Wall Of WaterThe slow part at 2:30 is fucking terrifying and I can't imagine how Attila does it at 2:55, what a piercing shriek The drums are just brilliant... The production is perfect for the style, and Attila can make sounds that are barely human... Attila is right now the best Black Metal vocalist. period. Easily Mayhem's best album.

Assemblage 23 - Compass (2CD Edition) - Really old sounding...he's much closer to pop with this than he was with the last album. Rammstein - Liebe Ist Für Alle Da - So far, I'm really liking this album. There's elements of everything, from the more tonal aspects of Herzeleid to the more stomping, teutonic stuff shortly thereafter. And some crazy intense growling that is angrier than I've heard them in a while.
Edit: 16 Volt - American Porn Songs - so far, much better than the big return album Full Black Habit.
