Oh, hey.

Hey, I'm looking to get into the band Growing. What are the best albums to start with and/or look into getting? Their discography is both massive and massively confusing. Thanks!

I have The Sky's Run Into the Sea and it is pretty great.  It is also the only thing I have by them. However, I got it from the mediaf!re thread ages ago, so it might still be there if you search for it.

The album The Soul of a Rainbow and the Harmony of Light is their best album.  It only has 4 songs, but three of those are really long like almost 20 minutes long.  If you do get this one (and probably mostly all their other albums) listen to it in headphones.

Man, when these guys opened for Dead Meadow here at the tiny indie rock bar (and I do mean tiny, place is the size of a large living room, literally) a couple years ago, they were so loud that I started out in front of the stage and the treble was vibrating my skull and the beer can in my hand and it made me physically feel bad.  I ended up standing OUTSIDE the bar and even that was almost too loud.  They may not sound like the loudest on album, but live they are hands down the loudest thing I have ever witnessed.  Louder than Dead Meadow themselves, louder than Mogwai, Blue Cheer, everything.

Their Kranky albums (The Soul of Rainbow and the Harmony of Light, The Sky's Run Into the Sea) are really good, straight up droning without annoying fart sounds.

I was so sad, when I came in here and it wasn't about Cyne's album "Growing".

I'm seeing these guys tomorrow opening for Boris in CT.  Good calm before the storm?

In the sense that you won't dance around or mosh, yes.  In terms of musical intensity, not so.

Growing are indeed loud as fuck live.

I have a bunch of their music but I haven't listened to it enough to differentiate between albums.  I like it, though.

for this show when they started off, i wasn't really feeling em. But by the end it was groovin, I did like that they merged all the songs together for the set (thats just good drone).  Playing right before Boris is hard cause theyre going to get trumped, like I said I was a little restless at the start.

I'm not sure, is there a way to do a search within just one thread?

Not quite, but you can search in one board and have the largest topics shown first, and the largest thread on the music board is indisputably the mediaf!re thread.  If you can't find it there, look around on the archives of soundweave.blogspot.com or thesirenssound.com.
