Alright, Eric and I are starting at just after 12:00AM on May the 16th. We can't find the camera, so there'll be no video, unfortunately.
See you guys in 24 hours!

Update: 3 hours in and we're about done with the songwriting. It's going to be a concept album about time travel, refrigerators and the like...
This should be pretty entertaining if we can pull it off on the recording...

Alright. We took a small break at 6AM, but now have an acoustic base laid down over our scratch tracks. Eric is now laying down the drum line using the freestyle mode of Rock Band 2. The 360 is input directly into the M-Box and that's where the drums come from. After that, we'll lay down bass and other instruments and finish with vocals. Still no video, but we found a still camera and there'll be some pic available of the process. Over halfway through our alloted time and going strong!

Darryl, if NSYNC would have won, I would do several songs for you. Just. Can't. Handle. BSB. Without. Stabbing. Things.
Also, are covers frowned upon? Like, purely vocal covers? As in me singing both melody and harmony and then making sounds to imply instruments? Not that my singing is spectacular, but I have no instruments (that work) other than my vocal chords.

I agree entirely on the N*Sync > BSB thing, and as far as I understand the rules, ANYTHING GOES. You could record bowel movements and it'd still count.
Also, a Capella albums are AWESOME, do it do it do it do it do itttttt

Holy Shit! We finished things up at around 11:30PM, and I just got home to compress the files and upload them.
Ladies and Gentlemen, Barnett is proud to present: Paradox!
http://www.mediaf!re.com/file/ozwzd2cn5mm/Paradox.rar
Paradox
by Barnett
1. William S. Horvath, Time Machine Man
2. $crilla fo' Rilla
3. Who's Got Two Thumbs and Hates His Job? This Guy.
4. The Future Mrs. Horvath
5. Curses, Foiled Again (Applesauce ex Machina)
6. What if I'd Never Been Born.
We had an amazing time doing this album. It was a lot of work, but we think it was well worth it. Enjoy!

I might make an album that's just a random mix of songs. Some crazy boop-boops from my keyboard, then a piano cover, then a lovely composition, then some finger drumming on various surfaces in my room, then an Nsync song for Linds...
I have a day off on Thursday! I think I will try to do this then!

Gonna start work on this right now. I should be done in less than an hour's work. I'm probably just going to sing simple productions of Patrick-ized versions of some songs I've had to sing for my show. I'll also do covers of a few of my favorite songs by various artists. Expect something in a few hours.

Nanolife.
Code:
http://www.mediaf!re.com/file/b2mydwwmm5o/nanolife.zip
This has a bit of a concept behind it, or atleast the composition does.
This album is written entirely using Conway's Game of Life as a score. I would create a starting setup in a 16X16 grid and work out 5 generations, then I turned on
nanovoice
, and hit record. I'd start putting in the results of life, pixel by pixel, occasionally stopping at a completed generation to allow the melody to play for a while, then i would begin replacing pixels with blank spaces, or blank spaces with pixels, to work my way into the next generation.
The cover shows two of my starting points(top left: rorschach, bottom right: sauron)
Track listing is as follows.
1. Rorschach.
2. Lines.
3. Sauron.
4. Trails.
All tracks were recorded live using just a gameboy advance and nanovoice, except for Sauron which also features backing from a second gameboy running nanoloop, which provided the pulse kick and noise highhats/snare.
Edit: link should be working now?

Originality is not my thing, so I can't imagine what I'd produce; but more to the point, all my stuff is piled in boxes and the piano is on it's side while the house is being redecorated. If I even think of doing this for some possibly private fun, it won't be in May.

Due to time constraints, my partner in crime and I are recording this over several days but we did our first six hours today and we already have the minimum time limit. Also, today we bought a mini accordion and have every intent to use it. Things are good. We have at least one legit, real song, plus some comedy wankery which will make up the majority of what will undoubtedly be an opus.

I have a question: Last week we worte and recorded an album. Except that we failed to record it. Meaning that we played it, while the recorder was set to "record", we just forgot to activate the line-in channels. Sadly, we only realized that when it was already to late to do it again. Are we allowed to record it again, or would that be against the rules?

We've recorded in the region of 30mins' worth now. Today alone we managed to knock out four complete songs, as in with lyrics and everything. This we did not expect. We've kind of changed our angle a bit, everything's going to be recorded live with just the two of us. We still have two days of production left too.

Must be quite a different thing doing 4 x 6 hours (or 6 x 4 or whatever) compared to however many you can manage within one 24 hour period.

Originally we were going to do the 24 hours thing, but we had other commitments, so we're doing it in different times.
To be fair, we reached the 20 minute time limit yesterday in just the six hours. We thought we lost everything we did yesterday but it turns out we didn't; we're leaving half of it off anyway because the album evolved into something else today. But I might put up two albums - the finished album and the 'deluxe edition bonus disc' with all the outtakes we don't use on it.

I think breaking up the 24-hour limit into chunks would actually be beneficial. I might do it too-start off with an hour and a half of drum tracks, then actual songwriting...

Yeah, not being critical of it, just thinking out loud... you're basically guaranteed much better results and a more chilled out time of it.
Trying to get something done in a given 24 hour period means you can't spend 24 hours on the music, for a start... although if you don't sleep, eat, fap, poo, etc. it could be pretty exciting to hear the results.
Also you've got much less opportunity to reflect on what you're doing, nut your way out of apparent impasses, take a break when you're fucking over it, etc.
I'm thinking I'll give the 24 hours real time version a go, because it's the constraints of that particular challenge that sound like the most fun to me. It'll have to be the last weekend of the month if I do it.

Whoo, thanks Sox. I'm also going to get my sister, my fiance' and hopefully one of my favorite singers from UWI's Pop Society to vocalize on tracks. I also expect there to be a "Through The Wire"- Kanye West style music video. Also, my brother plays the drums, and my fiance' plays the piano, so I'll see if I can them to do something cool, and make good use of my makeshift studio at home.

I also expect there to be a "Through The Wire"- Kanye West style music video.

So hopefully I'llbe able to upload my drone album soon, audacity keeps crashing when I edit the last track. Maybe it's too heavy

Jovian - Storms

This is some drone I did on my bass with some effects pedals. It's kinda Sunn O))) -ish and it was fun to make. I'm not happy with the recording quality, there's a hiss in each recording, just think of it as rain. Yeah, be patient too.
Tracklist
1. The Storms Across The Hilltops
2. Standing Under Thunder
3. The Clouds, Like Cathedral Bells
4. As We Reached The Summit, The Heavens Shouted

Not to be nitpicky, but would you mind posting the cover art in a larger resolution and more square-ish shape? If not, that's fine too. About to give the album a listen, I'll tell you what I think of it. I love ambient and drone, so expect positive things.
EDIT: I notice that the album art is included in the zip in high res, so nix the previous request. However, the third and fourth songs will not unzip from the package; a message shows up saying the files are corrupt. You may need to reupload the album.

Our album is finished. It's almost all-acoustic, all live takes, with a couple of skits on it. I'm actually really proud of what we've come up with, a lot of these songs may make it into our regular rotation with the band we formed a while back (with a third member who couldn't make it). I'm also surprised at how MUCH we've come up with. It's amazing what can happen when you stop trying to write good stuff and just let whatever come out.
We're going to do the Backstreet Boys song tomorrow and include it as a bonus track (plus possibly some outtakes).

I did a song, listened to it, and had a resounding "NO" ring through my head. So I am going to come up with a different idea. Keeping the covers theme, just need to do them in a different way.

I downloaded it from MF and it worked fine for me. For the artwork, I let imageshack resize it cause it was way to big to post. Oh and it's my own photo btw.
EDIT: urg there does seem to be a problem with the last track playing, but it unziped fine. Plus I hear how different the tracks sound, god I wish I had some better equipment. I'll see what I can do about that track this weekend. buh i hate it when my school crams whole classes into a month.
