You gotta love Neurosis' albums covers... And the title song of that album, damn I swear those drums at the end melted my brain.

I have to disagree with you there...SO HARD.

And I can't believe I forgot to post this one already; among hardcore and metal fans, this image has become as iconic as the Misfits skull.

Yes, some great covers and music. cool Through silver in blood could easily be a soundtrack to an apocalypse.

Here are some more of nice ones :

Cult of Luna - Eternal Kingdom

Intronaut - Prehistoricisms

Minsk- Ritual Fires of Abandonment

Death Knows Your Name - The Hope Conspiracy. I love all the work the artist for this cover has done. Aaron Horkey is his name. My display picture is from one of his prints.

Fortress - Protest the Hero. Lots of detail in this cover. Basically just cool  tongue

Nightmares of the Ocean -  The Arusha Accord. I like this one for it's general artiness  smiley

Wolves in Wolves' Clothing - NOFX. It's funny. Basically.

Roughly five years ago I discovered this gem of an album cover at my local record store. Something about the lighting, the pensive posture of the anonymous woman and that generic, antiquated room resonated with me deeply.

Of course, it turned out to be a horrific piece of emo shit, but by then I'd already bought the record.

The fact that the band was called The Early November should have been your first clue.

Maybe. But that's about as effective a method of judging a band as buying a record based on the cover art.

so many people do that though.

The Birthday Massacre, (yes, I pimp them constantly) is a phenomenal, hard to define band. but because they're gothy, purply and have  name that sounds like a cheesy emo band's, no one gives them a chance.

of course, the fact that I lumped them in with DEADSY, which is a less than stellar band (that I love.) probably hurt their chances here... but still. its a good band, that no one gives a chance to. largely because they arent fashionable.

Considering buying an album by Cougar Den solely for the album cover atrwork.  Aaron Horkey designed it, its jacket is 4 screenprinted and the vinyl is opaque blue.  Hooray for Aaron Horkey!

I'm listening to Phantom Limb, and let me tell you guys that's one of the best Grindcore albums I've ever heard.
It's as good as the artwork, at least for those who enjoy grindcore.  smiley

Anyway... Most Grindcore stuff has some bad artwork like the cliché gore and stuff... But there's some stuff I think it's amazing and very intelligent.

Because most of what I listen to is like the polar opposite of them, and I generally dislike extreme metal severely. They're pretty good at what they do though: I mean, there are some actual RIFFS in their stuff (like "Mosquito Holding Human Cattle Prod"), something missing from a lot of that kind of stuff IMHO.

Jjajaja well I see what you mean. I'm into that stuff a lot so maybe I'm the negative side of you ajjajaja.

Nah, but getting serious, Grindcore is a hit or miss genre. Or the band is good or just terrible. Fortunately I have the pleasure to know most of the 10% of the Grindcore scene that is good. It's weird when the genres I like the most are the ones that 90% of the bands playing those genres are crap. But I think every genre is like that tbh.

But hey... I like Björk and Portishead, They are my guilty pleasure.  grin

Portishead

This is the strangest guilty pleasure I have ever heard of.

But I guess the concept of a guilty pleasure doesn't make much sense to me anyhow.

Like Touch Me I'm sick said: Because most of what I listen to is like the polar opposite of them. Their music is miles away from what I enjoy in daily basis. And From someone who listen to Extreme Metal everyday something like Björk or Portishead is quiet out of context  grin

I understand what people mean when they say 'guilty pleasure', with the context issue and everything.  I just don't get why you would use the term guilty.

I totally agree... I think it's my favorite cd ever. Not only the music is really well written, catchy, melancolic and brutal at the same time. But the lyrics are brilliant as well and reflects the sickness of the world.
This is the only cd that really changed the way I view the world...

I can't believe when talking about Album Art no-one had Mentioned the Mighty Pettibon.....

I loved these record covers so much when I was first getting into music, the same goes for the Songs About Fucking Cover.

There has been very little album artwork that hasn't been posted that really excites me of late.(I love all the Torche & Baroness stuff, although I'm slightly bored of that now, there's been a lot of it about....)

If someone can show me a really awesome album cover, I'd buy the album without listening to it first, record shopping should always be an adventure, that's what I do in the mediaf!re threads/music blogs I read.

I do the same with gig flyers, I will go to a show with a good flyer even if I haven't heard the bands (Although last night I saw 3 amazing bands & the gig had THE worst flyer I've ever seen, ever.)
