Looking over my steaming pile of music, I have found that I have a severe lack of trance of almost any description outside of Tiesto and infected mushroom. Could anyone recommend me a few decent artists/groups of some description if you would not mind?

If you like Infected Mushroom, you'd probably like 1200 Micrograms.  It's another psychedelic trance duo.

And...that's all the trance I know of.  Looks like we both have a trance deficiency.

Hallucinogen's album "Twisted" should satisfy your need.

I know sometimes trance people get the feeling they need to listen to something more 'real' and start listening to psy-trance, as long as you don't do that you should be ok.

What other sort of dance music are you into? See I can't recommend any straight trance because its largely pretty terrible. However if I have a pretty good idea of what sort of stuff you're already into, I can throw out some cross-over style stuff out there and then maybe you can get into trance-trance without my help

I'm sure people prefer psy-trance to straight trance because straight trance is alrgely pretty terrible, not because it's more 'real'.

I am really just looking for anything with a nice flow that I can lose myself in, not that that actually helps much sorry. I prefer instrumentals over anything else, voices irk me a lot of the time. I love The Knife, silent shout in particular really does it for me, that kind of aural aesthetic is what I am searching for, but minus the vocals. sorry if this is unhelpful.

Also, if you have any other kinds of recommendations based on the above, I would like to hear them.

Alt + F4 - Alt + F4 (Original mix)
Nitrous Oxide - Red Moon Slide
Nitrous Oxide - Magenta
Lemon & Einar K - Anticipation
Bissen - Exhale (Sean Tyas remix)
Sander van Doorn - Punk'd (Sean Tyas remix)
Simon Patterson - Smack
Oliver Brooks - The Bridge (Original mix)

Ben Gold - Life (Original mix)
Sean Tyas - Melbourne (Original mix)
Tritonal - Cloudbase (Air Up There mix)
Boom Jinx feat. Thomas J Bergensen - Remember September (Original mix)
Signalrunners - Aria Epica

and I know you said you don't usually do vocals but here's a couple of exceptional vocal trance tracks just in case;
Tritonal feat. Cristina Soto - Let Solitude (Air Up There mix)
Alex M.O.R.P.H. feat. Ana Criado - Sunset Boulevard (Original Mix)
Andy Moor feat. Carrie Skipper - So Much More (Original mix)
Talla 2XLC vs. Carl B. feat. Katie Marne - Giving Up Giving In (Keep The Fire Burning) (Sean Tyas mix)

Man With No Name- Earth Moving The Sun (sample)
Hallucinogen- 'Twisted' as mentioned, also 'The Lone Deranger'
Gataka- 'In Trance We Trust' and 'Bless The Mess'
Astral Projection- Dancing Galaxy

Not sure how much this fits in but:

I am really just looking for anything with a nice flow that I can lose myself in, not that that actually helps much sorry. I prefer instrumentals over anything else, voices irk me a lot of the time.

Made me think of Rob Dougan... he only has one album out (Furious Angels) but the release was a double CD, one disc with lyrics the other without. It's orchestral music with fairly stock beats behind it and stuff, and fits the description above pretty perfectly as far as I'm concerned.

Admittedly (disclaimer) I am not sure how much it would qualify as trance music. Wikipedia lists the album genres as 'trip-hop, classical, ambient'.

Never really got into trance (one of these days someone will start the "recommend me some dnb" thread and I'll be all over that shit). Check out deadmau5 maybe though if you're looking for something similar to the knife but sans vocals? Oh hey look his BBC essential mix is still up.

With cake ownership set to C and cake consumption set to K, then C + K = 0.  So indeed as one consumes a cake, one simultaneously deprives oneself of cake ownership.

Also if trance is anything like the other dance genres (it is I just googled it) then it probably has a great online community where people just post mixes up all over the shop. I recommend frequenting trance sites/forums where people swap mixes.

Any track by Mellefresh & Deadmau5 ('freshmau5') is a cracker. Some of his own stuff (Ghosts n Stuff) is wicked too, although there is a large material-to-really-good-material ratio Smiley

The above post is also correct

Jeez, I can't believe nobody listed Shpongle (side project of Hallucinogen and 1200 Mics, and kings of psybient).  All of their albums are great, but I think Tales of the Inexpressible is a good starting place.  Other good acts include:

Entheogenic
Younger Brother
Shulman
Bluetech
