I've always though that comment, aside from showing anger at the thought of being so quickly replaced, showed a certain bitterness/resentment over Faye having made him feel somewhat like a fucktoy.

This comic surprised me a ton; the last thing I expected was for Sven to man-up and apologize to Faye for being shitty, even go as far as to say he MISSES her.

Sven is definitely against her better judgement even as just a friend but I'm a sucker, so I'm happy about it anyway. At least I'm self aware.

Edit: I doubt Jeph cares too much what his fanbase thinks. He's been doing the comic for the better part of six years on his own steam. Why start pandering now??

He's got a good point though - even though they rarely hung out together just being friends, when they did, they really worked.

Whether they'll end up together again I'm semi-doubtful of - I don't think it could work as casual sex or friends with benefits any more, and I'm not sure either of them will want to go there on a full on room service love basis.  It'll be interesting watching Sven trying to "just be friends" while Angus chases Faye, though.

Interesting that they've both matured - basically because of each other.

Awesome comic today. I'd say the last two panels sum up Sven and Faye's relationship pretty well.

Today's comic caused me to de-lurk... I've been looking forward to this and look forward to what happens next. After the introduction of Marigold I was pleased to see more of the other characters again last week - and this week's starting out just fine. Also I like the way the art has been developing. And I can really relate to Faye and her not-so-simple relationships with men...

I enjoyed this strip immensely. I've been waiting for it and I'm happy to see Sven trying to be a grown up. I don't really see them starting a relationship back up per se but a friendship I can see. I can also totally see Faye meeting someone or starting to date someone but keeping them at arms length not because of her past but because of Sven.  Maybe. Pretty much every bit of prognostication I've put forth with regards to QC has been wrong, but I keep plugging away. I figure some day I'll get to say "A-ha! I totally called it!"

I also appreciate the fact that Jeph could have left this one a weekend cliffhanger and didn't. Those drive me crazy.

Although it is nice to see Sven acting maturely for a change, I notice he did not really apologize for anything that he has done. All he has admitted was that Faye meant more to him than just sex. That is a big step forward for Sven, but has he actually admitted to himself (let alone anyone else) that what he did was wrong?

I remember making the WCT when Faye and Sven hooked up initially, and it was the longest thread in the forums.  Sheepish Sven is cute.  And perhaps he can work at gaining back our respect.  I actually admire Jeph a great deal for creating a character who is this complex.  The others have sort of faded.  Marten likes music, Dora runs a coffee shop, Angus is annoying, Hanners is OCD.  There's not much left to them.  Sven is the only one who surprises us.  If we have a week or so of drama-laden soap-opera-y kind of strips, I wouldn't complain a bit.

Oh, and did I mention: Sheepish Sven is cute.  We missed you too, babe.  Watch out for the mantackle-eating-shark Faye now keeps as a pet.

Anyway, I loved the faces and while I still want to hate Sven, it's mostly faded into apathetic dislike.

We don't know, this is to get us to come back and continue to read his work.  This is a common literary tool, and developed to it's hgihest form of art in the weekly serials at the local movie house.

My bet is she probably will say that, but not directly.  Much like Sven has not directly apologized.

That seems to be how their relationship dynamic works.

I love this development and could totally see the above happening. The girl who doesn't want a relationship being chased by two men!

I do hope that as Sven continues to flounder to regain her respect (which I hope he eventually does) that Faye continues to be mature about it (walking away at the sledding event rather than beating him up). I think it would be very interesting to watch both characters go through this process!

It's a huge step forward. Put it into perspective - For all that her reactions point to it Faye never actually admitted in words that Sven meant more to her than just sex.

I have to say, I've been waiting to see where this story arc went for quite a while now.

Looking at Faye's eyes in the very last panel, I kind of expect her to leap at him and hug him.  I think she still has feelings for Sven in a big way, but this is definitely very interesting.
