Round 3 is on!
With there now being far less matches to vote on, we'll cut the voting deadline until 23:59 (GMT-6) on thursday .
And I guess some commentary.
There was only one tie on this round. Neon Bible vs Apologies to the Queen Mary. The winner was decided by flipping a Dolly Parton cd case three times with the tracklist coming up twice.
Some surprises! (at least for me). DFA1979 beat Sleater Kinney. I liked DFA1979 enough but
geez
The Avalanches beat Girl Talk. Ideally this should not have been a surprise because Since I Left You is a careflly crafted and executed album vs the everything goes ableton splurt of Feed the Animals but we played against type here.
Not a surprise but still a bummer that Owls, one of the best albums ever lost against one of the weakest albums Mogwai has put out.

There are still a couple albums left in this that I'm quite passionate about, which is nice. I lament some losses (Owls, Sleater Kinney, The Weakerthans, Portishead) that I really think are inexplicable, but I can deal with that.
Radiohead
Fugazi
Low
Agalloch
Mountain Goats
Broken Social Scene
Boris
No Vote (Boring and Boring)
Daft Punk
Avalanches
GY!BE (probably the toughest choice here, though still not difficult)
Broken Social Scene
Wilco
Yo La Tengo
Arcade Fire
Wolf Parade

Radiohead - Kid A
Pass
Low - Things We Lost in the Fire
pass
LCD Soundsystem -Sound of Silver
BSS - you Forgot it In People
Boris - Akuma No Uta
Of Montreal - Hissing Fauna
Daft Punk - Discovery
The Avalanches - Since I Left You
Stars - Set Yourself on Fire
BSS - BSS
Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot
Yo La Tengo - I am not afraid of you
Arcade Fire - Funeral
Wolf Parade - Apologies to the Queen Mary
Ok so the Indie music forum has largely voted for indie bands that's cool, but basically next round when it comes down to Daft Punk vs the Avalanches (and I will kill you all if that isn't what it comes down to) I want you to sit down and really listen to both albums again before you make a decision because it is a really hard decision to make but there is actually only one correct decision (I am not going to tell you what it is but hopefully you figure it our yourself!)

Yellow
Radiohead (OK, this is a better album than Takk but I still like listening to Takk more so I have mixed feelings about it winning. That being said, The Flaming Lips bore me to death and I'm a bit upset that they knocked out the only Weakerthans (aka one of the best pop bands currently making music) album that made it through
Fugazi
Pink
Low (I'm really meh about both these albums but I guess I like this more)
Mogwai (really happy this made it through. One of the best examples of the genre and an all around awesome album!)
Peach
Mountain Goats (even though New York, I Love You but You're Bringing Me Down is one of my favorite songs, I still think AHWT is a pretty brilliant album overall)
Broken Social Scene (it really pains me to vote for this over EitS for a lot of reasons but I have to. YFIIP is easily one of the very best albums of the decade and I don't think much will make me vote against it)
Mint
Boris(again, a bit meh on both. Don't care much either way but Boris is more interesting sounding so it gets my nod)
Interpol (wow, shocked this is still in. A very cool, dark album. Wonder how long it'll last...)
Light Blue
Okkervil River
Isis
Purple
Godspeed (Stars is great and that album is pretty wonderful but LYSKLAtH is mind blowing)
Broken Social Scene (If Lonesome Crowded West had come out in this decade and was here instead, it would be a no brainer for me to vote for that, oh, basically every time. MaA is good but doesn't do a whole lot for me)
Darker Blue
Wilco (come on people, don't let messy, often boring electro-pop defeat this masterwork!)
Sigur Ros (again, surprised to see this here. Not sure if it'll make it past this round but I hope so. Such a beautiful album!)
Goldenrod
Arcade Fire (if this wins over BSS, I'll still be really happy. I got this almost the day it came out, I've listened to it on a regular basis since then, and it still gives me chills. Not many albums I've ever come across can do that)
Wolf Parade (just good pop music. Mr. Beast wasn't anything special in my mind)

Fugazi - The Argument
Low - Things We Lost in the Fire
Agalloch - The Mantle
The Mountain Goats - All Hail West Texas
Broken Social Scene - You Forgot It In People
Boris - Akuma No Uta
Of Montreal - Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer
Okkervil River - Black Sheep Boy
Isis - Panopticon
Godspeed You Black Emperor - Lift You Skinny Fists...
Modest Mouse - The Moon and Antartica
Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot
Yo La Tengo - I Am Afraid Of You And Will Beat Your Ass
Arcade Fire - Funeral
Wolf Parade - Apologies to the Queen Mary
I too am sad for Owls... And the fact that even though I voted against it The Mountains Goats had to lose that one bracket.

Flaming Lips - Yoshimi battles the pink robots (Kid A is good but it never quite clicked with me)
Pass (don't care much for either of these, the winner will lose the next round anyway)
Low - Things we lost in the fire (sorry DFA, you were fun while it lasted)
Mogwai - Happy songs for happy people (one of my favorite Mogwai albums, no competition)
LCD Soundsystem - Sound of help silver (incredible album)
Broken Social Scene - You forgot it in people (this one is tough, but BSS gets the nod)
TV on the Radio - Return to cookie mountain (in the end, Boris just doesn't do it for me)
Interpol - Turn on the bright lights (ohmygawd I love this album)
Daft Punk - Discovery (one of the first albums I ever bought, still makes me smile)
The Avalanches - Since I left you (I remember seeing Frontier Psychiatrist on TV years ago, but never gave the album a chance until a few months back. I'm
really
glad I did though.)
Stars - Set yourself on fire (so many incredible songs on here)
Broken Social Scene - Broken Social Scene (not their best, but better than Modest Mouse any day)
Wilco - Yankee hotel foxtrot (good enough to beat AnCo, then again, most of the albums here are)
Yo La Tengo - I'm not afraid of you and I will beat your ass (<3)
Radiohead - In rainbows (it came up tails)
Mogwai - Mr beast (Spencer Krugs voice gets slightly annoying after a while)

Radiohead - Kid A (Ooh, this was hard. This one pretty much came down to the fact that Yoshimi's title track really annoys me for some reason)
Fugazi - The Argument
Death From Above 1979 - You're a Woman, I'm a Machine (Go DFA go! You can do it!)
Mogwai - Happy Songs for Happy People
LCD Soundsystem - Sound of Silver (It hurts me to knock out Sunset Tree, but Sound of Silver is just too amazing)
Broken Social Scene - You Forgot It in People
TV on the Radio - Return to Cookie Mountain (Boris has never really clicked with me for some reason)
Interpol - Turn on the Bright Lights (Hissing Fauna is a really fun album, but TotBL is too cool to go out just yet)
Daft Punk - Discovery
The Avalanches - Since I Left You
Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Lift Your Skinny Fists... (Stars has some
really
good songs, but I think GYBE has the better overall album)
Modest Mouse - The Moon and Antarctica (sorry BSS)
Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot (Seriously people, MPP needs to go. Now.)
Yo La Tengo - I am Not Afraid of You and I Will Beat Your Ass
Arcade Fire - Funeral
Wolf Parade - Apologies to the Queen Mary

Radiohead - Kid A (Did I mention that I really think that Yoshimi is kind of a shitty album?)
Franz Ferdinand - Franz Ferdinand (OH COME ON HOW DOES THIS BEAT THE BOOKS DOUBLE TEE EFF, whatever, I still don't really like The Argument)
Death From Above 1979 - You're A Woman, I'm A Machine (Finally, a legitimate reason to vote against that utterly boring Low album)
Mogwai - Happy Songs For Happy People (The fact that his album lost to Agahgoeiahpgalloch ruined Ben Gibbard's wedding. I hope you assholes are happy)
The Mountain Goats - The Sunset Tree (I really don't get LCD Soundsystem. I really, really don't. Live, they're fucking spectacular, but it just loses some punch on album for me)
Broken Social Scene - You Forgot It in People (This is quite the quality disc, though Iron & Wine getting kicked out makes me sad)
TV on the Radio - Return to Cookie Mountain (Nice, TVOTR is responsible for knocking our first number one seed out of the tournament)
Of Montreal - Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer? (Boo to Interpol beating the Postal Service. A plague on both your houses.)
Okkervil River - Black Sheep Boy (I voted for the Decemberists last round against Daft Punk and I like BSB a lot better. That's Backstreet Boys, for those uninitiated.)
The Avalances - Since I Left You (What the fuck. I cannot disagree vehemently enough about the Avalanches vs. Girl Talk. GT is not "everything goes" and its easily as carefully considered as Since I Left You, just in a completely different and wonderfully more immediate way.)
Godspeed You Black Emperor - Lift Yr Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven (Pleasantly surprised to see Stars beat Panda Bear. Doesn't Matter Skinny Fists is just too wonderful)
Modest Mouse - The Moon and Antarctica (I'm not so much into BSS' self-titled release, really. Kind of bores me.)
Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot (Thank the lord this beat BMSR. I am disappointed but not surprised Elliott lost to Animal Collective. That said, hopefully here is revenge.)
Sigur Ros - Agaetis Byrjun (I thought the stupid Strokes backlash was over. Is This It? is maybe the best pure rock n roll album of our generation. I am furious.)
Arcade Fire - Funeral (Nice match! That being said, Funeral has made me cry, which In Rainbows has not done.)
Mogwai - Mr. Beast (OH COME ON A DOLLY PARTON CASE REALLY. This match is awful.)

I wasn't paying a lot of attention to other people's votes so some of these are real surprises. Let's see...
Kid A (too bad about the Weakerthans)
The Argument (I didn't expect FF to beat the Books, but Fugazi was obv)
Things We Lost in the Fire
Arrrrg, I think I'm gonna come back to this one later. Tough choice. I'm glad The Mantle beat Transatlanticism though, I wasn't sure which way that one was going.
Goddamnit, why is it so hard to vote for All Hail West Texas. So much worthy competition!
You Forgot It in People (That one was easy. Would have been harder if Iron & Wine was still in.)
Akuma no Uta (similarly, Mclusky Do Dallas getting voted out made this an easier decision. I really don't feel TVOTR like I used to.)
Turn on the Bright Lights (nooooooo Silent Shouuuuuuuut)
Discovery
Since I Left You
Lift Yr. Skinny Fists
So I was all like, "Man eff that why the eff did Saturdays = Youth lose?" but I think now that I have reached this stage I will give The Moon and Antarctica a chance and see how it compares to BSS
Yankee Hotel Foxtrot (man fuck that shit. no love for ES? YHF all the way)
I Am Not Afraid of You (yaaaaay, neither of the ones I wanted won)
Funeral
Apologies to the Queen Mary (owls guys, come on it was not hard)

Flaming Lips - Yoshimi (I would be surprised but really happy if this wins. This album is just so much more important to me than Kid A)
Fugazi - The Argument (Scary Norwegian, and Franz Ferdinand got old quick)
Low - Things We Lost in the Fire (I like both these albums, but Low is just the one that's better.
abstain - haven't listened to Aggaloch and Happy Songs for Happy People isn't that big of a hit for me, so I feel like the judgement would be unfair.
LCD Soundsystem - Sound of Silver
Broken Social Scene - You Forgot it in People (this one was hard, but I guess in the end BBS has the more interesting / better option)
TV on the Radio - Return to Cookie Mountain (uhm, yeah, not really a Boris fan)
Of Montreal - Hissing Fauna, Are You The Destroyer (I didn't realize Of Montreal was that popular on this board)
Daft Punk - Discovery (hands down)
abstain - see Aggaloch vs Mogwai
GSY!BE - Lift Yr Skinny Fists (I was tempted to vote against them because it was a bitch to type out, but then I realized I could abbreviate everything)
BBS - BBS
Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot (BMSR would have won here)
You La Tengo - I Am Not Afraid of You (I am really surprised Sigur Ros beat out soulwax. Have people listened to Nite Versions? Did they make informed decisions at all?)
Arcade Fire - Funeral
Mogwai - Mr. Beast

The Flaming Lips - Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots
Fugazi - The Argument
Low - Things We Lost In The Fire
Pass because both of them suck
Toughest vote so far, but I'm gonna have to go with The Mountain Goats - All Hail West Texas
Broken Social Scene - You Forgot It In People
Boris - Akuma No Uta
I'm still scratching my imaginary beard as to how either of these bands made it into the competition. Pass.
Okkervil River - Black Sheep Boy
The Avalanches - Since I Left You
I'm going to pass judgement on this one because I haven't heard Set Yourself on Fire, and after watching possibly the worst music video in the entire world with the album title on YouTube I feel it would be unfair to pass judgement. But if that's what the album offers then... what
Broken Social Scene - Broken Social Scene
Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot
Yo La Tengo - I Am Not Afraid of You and I Will Beat Your Ass and how the
dicks
did we end up with TWO sigur Ros albums guys. Are we really going to nominate Sigur Ros as the artist that has produced the most exciting album of the decade? Is that really what you want?
Pass because I don't care either way about Radiohead and Arcade Fire could contend with Sigur Ros for the Most Coma-Inducing Band award
Pass, because I am completely ambivalent towards Mogwai, and I haven't heard Wolf Parade

--Pass-- (Because they are both boring)
Franz Ferdinand - Franz Ferdinand (This is one of the few albums i can go back to and still enjoy as i did when i first heard it)
--Pass-- (Don't care either way)
Agalloch - The Mantle
The Mountain Goats - All Hail West Texas (Sorry LCD Soundsystem, i still love you)
EitS - The Earth is Not A Cold, Dead Place (The derivative bands of BSS are much better than the whole)
Boris - Akuma No Uta (RUN, BORIS, RUN!!!)
Interpol - Turn On The Bright Lights (This may be out of my borderline hatred for the boring crap that is Of Montreal)
Daft Punk - Discovery
The Avalanches - Since I Left You
Stars - Set Yourself On Fire (I have never understood the love for GY!BE)
--Pass-- (*Yawn*)
Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot (AC are still there? Are you people serious?)
Yo La Tengo - I Am Not Afraid of You... (Weak Sigur Rós album makes this pretty easy)
--Pass-- (Don't care for either)
Wolf Parade - Apologies to the Queen Mary (Mr. Beast beat Owls?
sigh

Radiohead - Kid A
(I do really like Yoshimi as an album, but this is not a hard choice)
Fugazi - The Argument
(I don't understand the love for this album. It's kinda boring, and I say this loving most of Fugazi's output. Still, I prefer it slightly to the first FF album)
Low - Things We Lost In The Fire
(DFA1979 has a lot of good songs, but it's hardly a great
album
)
Mogwai - Happy Songs for Happy People
(I don't like Agalloch)
The Mountain Goats - All Hail West Texas
(I still haven't listened to enough of this album to be confident in this decision, but for me Sound of Silver is really only about two songs)
Broken Social Scene - You Forgot It In People
(Not big on Explosions in the Sky)
Boris - Akuma no Uta
(I finally only just listened to this album. Good stuff. Return to Cookie Mountain has always seemed overrated to me, despite having one of my favourite songs of the decade on it)
Interpol - Turn On The Bright Lights
(I do not understand at all why people love that Of Montreal album so much)
Okkervil River - Black Sheep Boy
(Easy choice for me, even though Discovery is a great album)
The Avalanches - Since I Left You
(Easy choice)
Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Lift Yr Skinny Fists Like Antennae to Heaven
(I think GY!BA is overrated, but I also think that Stars album is terrible aside from one song)
Broken Social Scene - Broken Social Scene
(for some reason The Moon and Antarctica has never done all that much for me compared to albums by Modest Mouse both before and after)
Animal Collective - Merriweather Post Pavilion
Yo La Tengo - I Am Not Afraid of You and I Will Beat Your Ass
(Sigur Ros are really too boring to vote for. I mean, boring in a good way! But still)
Arcade Fire - Funeral
(I found this pretty easy)
Wolf Parade - Apologies to the Queen Mary
(yus Wolf Parade)
only 3 from my top 10 list still in contention, and I don't see any of them winning. Ah well

Kid A by Radiohead cause Yoshimi didn't do a lot for me.
Franz Ferdinand by Franz Ferdinand cause they are one of my favourite bands and I really enjoy that album.
Pass, cause I don't really care.
Pass, cause I don't really care.
Sound of Silver by LCD Soundsystem cause it is a really good album that I keep coming back to.
You Forgot In the People by Broken Social Scene, cause I like it better than Explosions in the Sky.
Return to Cookie Mountain by TV on The Radio, no comment
Hissing Fauna, Are You The Destroyer? by Of Montreal, cause even though Skeletal Lamping is a superiro album, this is a great album too.
Black Sheep Boy by Okkervil River, cause even though Daft Punk put out a really great record with Discovery, I find that I can't really listen to it whenever I want.
Since I Left You by the Avalanches, this is a good example of a good "mash-up" album.
Set Yourself on Fire by Stars, they are one of my favourite bands and they make great music. Not a bad song on that album.
The Moon and the Antartica by Modest Mouse, it is such a good album, a bit better than Broken Social Scene's s/t.
Merriweather Post Pavillion by Animal Collective, Not a big Wilco Fan.
I Am Not Afraid of You and I Will Kick Your Ass by Yo La Tengo!, no comment, good album, great title.
Funeral by The Arcade Fire, even though In Rainbows is a great album, Funeral had a great impact on my music taste.
Apologies To The Queen Mary by Wolf Parade, Nothing to say here, great album.

Radiohead - Kid A (Wayne Coyne wears white after labor day.
Tacky
)
Fugazi - The Argument (Franz Ferdinand don't really have much of an... argument)
Low - Things We Lost in the Fire (I wish DFA1979 would get lost in a fire)
Mogwai - Happy Songs for Happy People (I am a Happy Person. These songs are for me)
LCD Soundsystem - Sound of Silver (Daft Punk played at his house. His house.)
Explosions in the Sky - The Earth Is Not A Cold Dead Place (It isn't!)
Boris - Akuma No Uta (I don't know what that means, but I love all things German)
Interpol - Turn on the Bright Lights (Of Montreal is like Canadians trying to do Rocky Horror Picture Show)
Daft Punk - Discovery (They played at LCD Soundsystem's house)
Isis - Panopticon (Growling is the new Jeff Buckley-ing)
GY!BE - Lift Yr Skinny Fists (I'm brown, we have soft spots for long names)
Modest Mouse - The Moon & Antarctica (For rescuing Jonny Marr from Morrissey's basement dungeon and giving him a home)
Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot (Animal Collective send me into a blind rage, that's not even a joke)
Yo La Tengo - I Am Not Afraid of You And I Will Beat Your Ass - (See GY!BE)
Radiohead - In Rainbows (See Wilco, but replace Animal Collective with Arcade Fire)
Mogwai - Mr. Beast ("Hey you guys like Arcade Fire right? We're like... from the same town! Seriously!" Fuck Wolf Parade)

Since I Left You by the Avalanches, this is a good example of a good "mash-up" album.
is it really fair to describe "since i left you" as mash-ups? certainly its built off samples, but it's with the intent of making new songs rather than amalgamations of other songs - which is kinda the point of mash-ups. i mean, i don't think you can call endtroducing... a mash-up album.

That is why Mash-up is between quotation marks. I wasn't sure what term I could use. Maybe I should've just said that it is just a damn good album, period. You make a good point though.

Radiohead - Kid A
Franz Ferdinand - Franz Ferdinand
Death From Above 1979 - You're a Woman, I'm a Machine
Mogwai - Happy Songs for Happy People
LCD Soundsystem - Sound of Silver
Broken Social Scene - You Forgot It in People
TV On the Radio - Return to Cookie Mountain
Interpol - Turn On the Bright Lights
Daft Punk - Discovery
The Avalanches - Since I Left You
Stars - Set Yourself On Fire
Broken Social Scene - Broken Social Scene
Animal Collective - Merriweather Post Pavilion
Yo La Tengo - I Am Not Afraid of You and I Will Beat Your Ass
Radiohead - In Rainbows
Wolf Parade - Apologies to the Queen Mary
And wow. I know some of you must be joking with your album pick reasoning, but part of me does think a lot of the choices were decided that arbitrarily. Probably just my personality, but I wouldn't ever flip a coin to decide my favorite anything. Just vote for what you like best! Also, some good battles this round... I love listening to some of these albums head to head. For instance, I'd love for Low to get it's ass kicked by DFA1979, but I guess a lot of you like really slow Dinosaur Acts. Not that there's anything wrong with slow Dinosaur Acts; the opening lines of the album are great, but I like the other more overall. I didn't want to put down EitS until later, but losing to Broken Social Scene isn't a bad thing. Better than some of the earlier bizarre results. I think the two toughest for me were GY!BE vs. Stars and Radiohead vs. Arcade Fire. Especially so for that last battle.
