I don't get what you're confused about.

Seems like pretty standard fare for the soundtrack of a movie marketed to kids in their teens to me.

I guess I thought I'd never see Thom Yorke or Bon Iver on the same disc as The Killers or Muse.

why not?

Because they are representative of "scenes" that try to separate themselves from one another as much as possible?

I like Bon Iver and the Killers, and Soundtracks aren't really typically bound by genre or scene except when the movie seeks to actively reinforce these boundaries.

Maybe this is a good sign that these kids, despite the fact that they obviously have dogshit taste in literature, are finally getting over this bullshit distinction between 'scenes' and just learning to like music that they like? I know when The Killer's Hot Fuss came out I actively disliked them for no good reason other than that they weren't in my scene and their singles were massively overplayed, and then last year I actually gave the whole album a listen and wound up really liking them.

What I am saying is there are a lot of weird artificial distinctions put on music that obstruct the ability of some people who are maybe a little too fashion-conscious to enjoy them and if these are slowly dissolving it is a good thing

If you read the front of Stephanie Meyer's books, she acknowledges many of the artists there as her favorites.  Though I guess they decided to leave Linkin Park out of the soundtrack.  I dunno what's worse, her taste in music, or the fact that I like several of the artists up there as well.

...Not that I've ever read a book by Stephanie Meyer.

This I agree with, I guess I just wasn't it expecting to start happening so soon.

I was not expecting this to be at all interesting but I am undoubtedly intrigued by a Bon Iver/St. Vincent collabo. Huh.

For the most part I don't really know who these bands are.

Honestly, I'm not really sure what Death Cab for Cutie sounds like. I always avoided them because their name sucks. I'm sure I've heard one of their songs at one point or another but I have an uncanny knack for never connecting a band to a song.

Their lead singer just got married to Zooey Deschanel and looks like this:

Make your choice.

(I listen to Death Cab, and enjoy it)

I like the majority of the songs on that soundtrack.

Sounds like a good mixtape to me.

But yeah, what Hat said. This can only be seen as an improvement. Since when is Twilight considered Tween?

Yeah, that's what I was thinking.

All of this music sucks, the movies suck. It's entirely appropriate.
