Evony ads?

Hi folks

QC is plastered with ads for Evony at the moment, a webgame with a VERY bad reputation in some quarters, see

Among many others.

Basically they steal content from other sources, rip of Civ like mad, use misleading ads, spam blogs and are alleged to be a bunch of MMORPG Gold farmers.

I just thought it might be worth mentioning, I kinds think it lowers the tone somewhat, though I am sure Jeph 'n Co didn't know about this. If it were my site I would probably get my ad-provider to stop posting their ads, though of course ads pay for QC among other things so I am not wanting to be over-judgemental.

Now, why is the metaphor to shoving them in customer faces rather than having them on the walls? There are ads in stores. On shopping carts, for instance. One gas station I go to has a poster for a phone card company in the restroom.

I've seen a few evony ads.  As far as I can tell, it's a game about boobs.

I took it one step further because flash ads are more annoying than poster ads. They move and blink, often they make noises (ultimate-guitar.com, anyone? "HI! IM AMBER! WHAT'S YOUR NAME?"), they can follow when you scroll the page, there are delayed popups, ads that often block out the thing you actually want to see. Basically people who make ads are making them as hard to get rid of as possible these days, and it's gotten to the point where I would be prepared to kick the person responsible for the ads squarely in the face with an iron-shod boot.

People don't specifically want to block out Jeph. They want to block out all the other shit everywhere else. I use AdBlock only on certain pages where they are really annoying, otherwise I cope - but most people add externally controlled filters that remove all ads indiscriminately so they simply never see any ads. It's not to fuck up Jeph's business, it's just a reaction to the ridiculous advertising oversaturation on the web in general.

I played Evony for a while last spring (back when it was called Civony) and I can confirm that it is a vile, awful game with little to no redeeming value.

Also, aside from the ads, there are no tits anywhere in the game.

I think if Evony ads were to appear on Jeph's site it would not be his, or even necessarily his advertiser's fault. According to the great manual of Wikipedia, they frequently use different urls to bypass normal website checks. That is one of the reasons why it is hard to stop.

Many people are stupid. Turns out that stupid is roughly equivalent to having insufficient main ram, or too much of it dedicated to trivial processes like "where are my keys?"
