I don't know anything about tentacle monsters. Someone says the phrase, first thing that comes to mind is the cephalopod Architeuthis. How would you rape a Giant Squid? Find the ink sac, and do naughty things? I don't know. All I know is, keep your little Jimmy John away from the fucking beak.

Comiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiic. Huzzah!
Is it just me, or is Marigold even more socially awkward than usual? Perhaps it is just because she was taken off-guard or is embarrassed about knowing so much about Magical Love Gentlemen. I wish I could place myself into a 3d version to see which character she is looking at most awkwardly, as someone who enjoys melodrama I would hope it is Marten. Oh I am terrible.
Wait, I just noticed. I think Jeph attributed what should have been Hanner's line to Dora in the second panel.

Epic comic, but I hope Jeph gets some sleep over the weekend. Faye = Tsundere = Staring at the shirt, I just noticed that tsundere is an anagram of "dentures". Also of "nerd suet" which cuts a bit close to the junk-food guzzling stereotype.

Well, this was one of the lamer polls I've ever done...
What sort of hentai do you read/watch?
Stuff that makes Pintsize's look tame 11 (28.2%) None - Japanese style anime leaves me cold/disturbed 18 (46.2%) Just what I can pick up at the local Chapters 3 (7.7%) What is this reading thing you speak of? 7 (17.9%) Total Voters: 39
Anyway, what is it with checking out male dolls to see if they are anatomically correct?
And its alright Marigold, I won the GW Quiz at the last tourney I entered... Still a nerd, just a different brand of nerdery.

I love Marigold's blush in the last panel. Obviously, it was the first thing she checked, too!
Also, did Hanners mean that Faye won't get the joke of a Tsundere shirt, or that she may never get the shirt itself (the biggest hazard of getting someone a gift that you really like)?

I'm amused by Jeph's steadily increasing anime references, and this one just took the cake.
Faye confirmed for tsundere? I lol'd indeed.
Not too sure about Hanners being that moe though.

I really didn't get this comic. I had to look up what "Tsundere" was, (and it follows that old principle of if the joke has to be explained it isn't funny- even if it would have been otherwise) and I don't know what the "Moe" reference means...
I'm afraid this one was a little too obscure for me. I fail. I'm just not an anime person.

And on the other hand, there are a lot of people who didn't get the obscure indie references back when there were a lot of those. About half the comics from those days went WAY over my head. x3 Everyone has something they find funny, and I think it's good when Jeph branches out and references varied stuff. I actually prefer anime-jokes-I-don't-get to music-jokes-I-don't-get, because it's easier for me to google "tsundere" and go "oh! Haha!" than to figure out, without downloading and listening to their music, why a joke about a band is funny. (Before someone jumps on me: I'm not saying QC should stop the music references, of course - that's basically what the comic was founded on ._.)

Tsundere = Type of character who is stingy at first, most of the times even violent, but later she's all lovey-dovey. They show their feelings like "t-this is just a friend gift, it doesn't m-mean anything", with a red face while shuttering. Yeah, they really don't love you Moe = Anything cute. Like small children. Something you'd want to hug and protect, and pinch their cheeks while going kyaaaaaaa with their cuteness.

Definitely +1 on that. And then there's the whole "alien culture" thing with USA-specific references. But that's all part of the QC charm. I think Jeph keeps a pretty good balance. There are lots of other webcomics with a far greater anime/manga slant than this.

Despite being a professional nerd
I'm contemplating a career change - what's the pay like? I have only a smattering of anime/manga - a complete collection of UK magazine Manga Mania, which serialized stuff like Akira, Bubblegum Crisis, Appleseed and Dirty Pair, plus two VHS episodes of Kekkou Kamen, which Pintsize would approve of. So I had to stick Tsundere into Google to understand why Faye may well be adding some deliberate Hanner-bruises to the one she accidentally inflicted a few strips ago. Staring at the shirt, I just noticed that tsundere is an anagram of "dentures". Also of "nerd suet" which cuts a bit close to the junk-food guzzling stereotype.
Also: need rust rented us dense rut deer nuts stun deer turn seed steed run use trend dent user [in which case you would then need to] tend user nude rest red tunes rude nets used tern and the ever-popular poop reference: seen turd Thank you Internet Anagram Solver

Shankmaster: In Syrup's defense, lots of dudes use girls in their avvies. It's the collective male unconscious desire to be cute and perky... and play with dolls.
Incidentally, your avvie is cute and perky. The hat makes me wonder what you would look like in a full and proper sailor fuku.
My taste in Japanese manga/anime definitely runs more toward the techno-fetishism as opposed to the fetish-fetishism. GitS, DeathNote, Appleseed, Full Metal Alchemist, even Steel Angel Kurumi, and Chobits.
Aw, thank you, though my hat is actually a sleeping cap. And Full Metal Alchemist was amazing, and the first anime to make me cry. Brotherhood is getting pretty intense, too. Hm. I'm never seen an anime plushie that wasn't chibified. Long limbs? Interesting.

I'm not an anime guy, so I didn't get the Tsundere joke, and therefore my thoughts were likewise of a different nature than the majority of the good folk here. EDIT: That sentence certainly changed style from the beginning to the end.

I never got the indie music stuff either, but you could usually understand the joke even if you didn't know the music or artist. But the anime stuff has waaaaay too much vacabulary to do that!
To be honest, I didn't get the tsundere reference either, but I didn't have to look it up.
I just asked my daughter...

And now to end this thing:
What's in the bags ?
Rare, unusual or new manga 5 (12.5%) Something that would leave us cold/disturbed 12 (30%) Nothing to see here, move along 10 (25%) Something nice for Jeph 6 (15%) Pancakes! 7 (17.5%)
Total Voters: 40
