I always appreciated his contributions to the music sub-forum and I never saw his comments in the comic discussion sub-forum because There Be Dragons. Comic discussion aside, I don't think he was as much of a dick as people made him out to be. I think people on this forum just have an extremely low tolerance for people who don't agree with them or have opinions that offend them.

i'm biased and i am not my brother's keeper and blah blah blah but i read just about everything he posted from mid-'07 thru being banned, when i was still lurking, and i think you're remembering a handful of "bad" posts out of a couple thousand "good" ones.  i think that's a pretty good ratio and 99% of the time he was just being funny or laid-back or both.  maybe it wasn't apparent if you don't know him in real life, but he certainly had a lot of "friends" on here who thought he was a pretty nice guy.

khar says a lot more things which may or may not be unironic and antagonistic but, if they are and he's not just being "oh that lovable asshole khar!", are a lot worse than the term "reality tunnel".  i mean just look at some of the things he's said in this thread alone.

anyway, whatever.  it doesn't matter really, does it?  in the end i'm sure it will only make jackie laugh when he wakes up and i tell him people are still slamming on him, but i'd kinda like to be my own person after this post.

Pretty much everyone on this forum who has ever had the capacity to ban people have in the past done so with less provocation that Jackie showed.  I'm pretty sure Ashton hasn't, but that is because he's a very hands-off local admin (which is a good thing).  Not sure if Dan ever banned someone without good reason either, but he wasn't an admin for very long anyway.

I quite liked zerodrone, he hated Richard Dawkins about as much as I do. He could be a little obnoxious at times but he was no worse than quite a few other people around here (myself included). Mostly he was fine, and I enjoyed quite a bit of what he wrote even when I disagreed.

my comment was intended to convey how much i hate everything PHIZ stands for.  i posted in it once or twice, just little bitty comments, and got flamed mercilessly for not being "ironic" enough or whatever.  seriously you should transfer your efforts to making NMD worthwhile again instead of wasting your time in PHIZ.  jackie posted a couple times in PHIZ as well, trying to actually have a conversation with content and was repeatedly told "get the fuck out of here".

still waiting on examples of people who were banned with "less provocation" than jackie, or an explanation for why khar is not considered ban-worthy despite being consistently far more antagonistic than jackie.

That mighta been back when it was an RSF and subsumed with fyads. It's a pretty decent environment. NMD is basically a Muse hivemind and I have little to no interest in it. PHIZ you just gotta keep posting in basically - once you're a regular people are willing to accept your quirks unless you're a dude who sucks (there's a few of those but they are egregious).

Back to the charts - incontrovertible proof that white people are still a huge market for recorded music.

Darryl got tempbanned for a day because it was April Fool's Day.

Normally when someone gets banned around here I just assume that the person who banned him had a good enough reason for it, seeing they are the ones who have been trusted with that level of power. But then again, no one I really really like here has been banned. This place has always been run on the whims of the people in charge, I mean, Trollstormur became a mod because Jeph was drunk and Troll posted some funny owl memes. When people try to talk about this place like it is a democracy and everyone has the right to thier own say on who gets banned or not, they just have to realise that in the grand scheme of things around here, them complaining about someone being banned is not going to change anything; in fact it will probably just piss the admins off and the banned person probably will never get unbanned.

Far more people absolutely hated him in fact. I tried to help (changed his name, introduced him to the alternate chatroom etc) but it didn't really improve things. I don't actually know why you'd want to come back to post on a forum where for the most part you were disliked.

Personally I agreed with Jeph's ban. It's real easy not to criticise the comic and he was warned by several people.

Fact is, Jeph decided to ban Jackie because Jackie kept posting what Jeph thought were unfair and insulting criticisms of the comic. I didn't agree with the banning because I thought Jackie contributed something valuable to the forum, the music sub-forum in particular, but obviously my opinion is in the minority. In the end it was Jeph's decision because it's Jeph's site and that's all there is to it. Time to move on. (And I'm saying that with my mod hat on, sorry to pull rank.)
