Times like this I wish for a "like" button. Great-grandpa may have lost the top hair, but certainly not the rest!

Your great-grandpa looks awesome.

Rolling Thunder was today in DC. I only took one picture, because really every year it looks pretty much the same. But this year it was with Instagram. (Ooh, ahh.)

Despite my best efforts, I got a sweet sunburn. I'm trying this remedy for it - I'll report back on it tomorrow.

I miss my dog. Couldn't take her with me when I moved but I'm still at the house often enough but it's not the same as having her as a constant companion.

My great grandma is 102 and even though she's doing well and can actually eat whatever she wants... She doesn't look nearly as good as your great grandfather, Finin. Wow! He also looks like a really happy man. :)

Hello 9-1-1, there's a crazy looking woman with a cyborg arm and wings following me down West 21st St. I'm scared.

unnnngh...stand.very.still.maybe it isn't a flesh eating cyborg angel?!

yeah, fuck you Superman. Idiot.

Aw fuck it. It's Nick Fury. OK, act casual, Angel of Death Cyborg Lady. Don't make me angry. You wouldn't like me when I'm angry. Yeah, Incontinence Man. You've heard of me?

Sometimes, I feel like Tupac watches over me.

Yes, buy the nice cyborg angel lady some ice cream. Maybe then she won't eat your soul. :D

Her wings are awesome (as is the rest of her outfit). Where did she find ones that big? Most I ever see are the ones about 2'-3' wide and about 1' long...

I'll put 5 internet dollars (redeemable as: nothing) on her having made them herself.

Linds,  Motherplucker.com (don't go to the plural version of that URL). Shipping from CA to NC was outrageous! Those were a custom order. She put that outfit together herself and did have a hand in the wing design. Mike really did a great job on these pics. Now I gotta sell a kidney or something to pay for his work. He took a load more but I think that's enough of teh photodump for May.

Welu, aw I miss your doggie too now. Sweet face.
Penin, dang that guy looks way younger than 102. Srsly, he could be hooking some ladies in their 70s.
bainidhe_dub, young lady you are grounded. The sun is the enemy. No rolling thunder for you until next year!

Doin' my SCA thang. I'm in our barony's singing group of 6 women, and we had an entry in the kingdom-level Arts & Sciences Faire a few weeks ago. Our garb had to match the period of the songs and we all had to match each other in color and style. Excuse the really bad hoop skirt, I'm working on getting proper undergarments for next time >_<

Which is basically a simpler version of this mid-1500s Elizabethan gown:

Also, I got to shoot a bow and arrow this weekend for the first time in about 15 years. I did really well, considering! Hoping to get some gear and join a few live weapons tourneys. So like, here's my backside. Y'all, I've lost 20 pounds and I could totally tell in this pic! I'm proud of myself.

Mackenzie turned one year old yesterday! We had our SCA barony meeting last night, so we brought dessert for everyone. She had a little adventure with lemon frosting.

Her daddy loves her very much - and she is definitely a Daddy's Girl.

Her mama loves her very much too!

Impressive indeed. My sister was a similar story, she was about 8 months.

I've always been the weirdo, on the other hand. I waited until about 2 years until I started vocalizing, but the first thing I ever said was a complete sentence. First example of a weird trend of me refusing to show anyone I can do stuff until I can do it well.

Supposedly a sign of intelligence, the talking in whole sentences thing ... make of that what you will.

Quick to learn how to walk, by the way.

I think I was walking at 10 months - it was at about that time I learned that bottles were mobile, and Mom was not. But then, I was also something like 9 lbs 3oz when I was born.

I was teensy- 5 lbs, 6 oz when I was born. Also about a month premature. And apparently I was "quick" to do everything else too. I spoke fairly early and remember my mom telling me that even before I started school, I "read" bedtimes stories instead of her because I memorized them. Of course now, I can't remember crap.  :-P

I guess technically, my first time speaking was a sentence. "Hi Daddy"

Mackenzie is SO. ADORABLE!

I don't know how old I was when I started walking/talking, I just no my first word was, "No," and I supposedly liked saying it a lot, both for no and yes.

Funny, my mom says the exact same thing about me. I had my favorite bedtime story memorized as well, so it was basically me telling them to my mom.

She also tells me that I started reading before starting school because of the TV guide. Toddler me sees my dad looking at a booklet, who says "oh, this is on TV", at which point he turns on the TV and lo, it is as he says. MAGIC. Toddler me demanded to know how he did that, and so was taught to read.

Heh, thanks everybody ^_^

Mac babbles a lot and we can tell she has her own words for a lot of things (wtf is dockadoo?), but right now there are only a handful we recognize. Her favorite word right now is "hey". Someone walks in the room - "Hey! Heyyy! Hey! Heyyyyyyy! Heyyy!" She says "whoa" when she drops something or falls down, and she says "oh yeah!" when she's excited about something. She also knows nie-nie (night-night), bah (ball), bot (bottle), mama, dada/deedah, mum-mum-mum (nom-noms, what we call solid food), and grah (granny, grandma, or granddaddy). She even came out with the full "grah-dah-dee!" one day.

She nods her head, which we're figuring out means both "yes" and "I like this" - either way she recognizes that head-nodding is a positive reaction. Luckily she hasn't learned to say "no" yet, though she definitely knows what it means! She dances any time any music comes on... or when we sing or drum on something... or just when she feels like it. And a few days ago she was trying to jump. Physical skills are definitely her forte!

Yes, I'm a first-time mom, how could you tell.

Apparently I preferred to say "yes" rather than "no" when I was little. One time I got hurt badly enough that my parents took me to the emergency room, and the injury - I wrenched my arm, maybe? - looked like possible abuse to the doctors, so they tried to ask me questions... Did someone hurt you? Yes! Did your parents do this to you? Yes! Have they ever hurt you before? Yes! I want to say I was about 18 months, which seems rather young to be trying to question a kid, but it all got sorted out.

Oh, lord... that reminds me of our adventurous (and consequently accident prone) daughter and her frequent visits to the emergency room for the oddest injuries.  I also remember the one where, after the nurse looked at us oddly (it was the fifth visit in three months), we insisted that she tell the nurse what happened herself.  I think she was 5, explaining how she cut her foot falling of the top of a fire hydrant.

The nurse's reactions were always the same as ours;  "...and what were you doing on top of a fire hydrant?"

Or the stiches that put the inside of her cheek back; "...how did the cat's paw get inside your mouth again?"

Or the broken wrist; "...why were you doing a handstand in the bathtub?"

You have some fun ahead of you, Elysiana...

PHOTO DUMP AHOY

So I went flying with my old man on Fathers' Day. This was our mount:

This is a row of the so-called "Mothball Fleet" in Suisun Bay:

This is the part of town I live in. See the D shaped golf course (center)? I live toward the bottom point. My bandmate Matt lives beyond the other end of it:

This is the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, where lasers, supercomputers, and nuclear fusion research all happen:

And this is the Curtiss P-40E (early WWII-era American fighter) that lives at the Livermore Municipal Airport. She's one of 7 flying examples left, and she's absolutely fucking pristine, a real treasure:

Yeah, Father's Day was pretty sick.

Yeah, the whole album concept got messed up. I told Maria I wanted her "in a corset with two big WANGS."
I guess it was the southern accent messing things up.

At least we got the corset right.
