Don't know how I ended up on it but I've been listening to rock/metal version of TV and movie themes the last half hour.

Current fave: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E0ZmUKBgwqg&feature=related Gets better once it's passed the intro.

Yesterday I started re-appreciating The Plasmatics. I listened to Maggots: The Record a few times in a row. Beautiful grindhouse drama in musical form.

I can't wait to see dUSK (pretty much half the band) playing the album in its entirety at roadburn. So fucking psyched.

An impressive arrangement of Chopin's Revolutionary Etude and Fantaisie-Impromptu, blended together for a live orchestra.

Watched Reefer Madness a good few weeks ago now and I'm still singing this song multiple times a day. Both parts. In public. Then I explain where the song is from. Then people go watch the film. Then they sing it with me. So much fun.

I have the score of an organ piece that includes the instruction to hold a chord for longer than the length of any other piece of music.  Since there is an organ piece by Cage that is being performed over 639 years, holding a single chord for longer seems a little impractical.

Funny, I went to some site yesterday that has a default playlist player. The default song on it is 4:33. lolz.
Right now I am listening to traffic in downtown Charlotte, and the outgoing Governor's assistant through the wall in my office.

I once performed one movement of 4'33" in concert (it has three movements) in the basic piano version.  Actually, if I remember the score correctly, even the duration is not fixed, in spite of the name.

Found a box of tapes I used to record quick ideas for songs. I forgot about 90% of them and now that I'm hearing them years later I've come to the conclusion that I'm a musical genius, but the world isn't ready for me yet. Oh wow, there's a ballad I apparently made in tribute to the Mayor from Powerpuff Girls.

Also just heard Purple Rain followed by Hank Williams doing "Happy Roving Cowboy." Did I imagine it or did someone already do a Country cover of Purple Rain. Because if they haven't someone should.

Purple Rain is, bizarrely, the one song on the album that I just do not like. I don't know why. It just bores the hell out of me.

Anyhow, I'm listening to Ishtar Alabina.

Dubstep other than Skrillex

The jury is still out on the genre as a whole. I'm definitely anti-Skrillex, but figured I'd give dubstep another shot.

Naturally.  And now the one you won't know:

Rock Follies was two TV series lampooning the rock industry in 1976-77, and is still a good watch/listen.

I'm with D Nomms. Everything I've heard either sounds like an equipment malfunction or well that it really wouldn't matter if you played the song right or wrong. I cut my teeth on Eno's On Land, and Music for Airports. I probably lost some hearing @ SY's Daydream Nation live in a club. I really try to find something in nearly every genre I encounter. But dub step makes me just angry and want to punch everything.
