Would you care to provide probabilities? We can deal with probabilities. We've done it before.

(well, I ignored them)

In my opinion, there's a 100% chance that something involving Dora and Faye will happen at some point in the future.

To the Max!

Well, to continue with Blood-Tree's theory, there's also the very unstable variable of Faye in this equation. Faye has also well demonstrated her capability of tough love. I think it's very possible that Faye's purposely making this situation as chaotic as possible to force Dora to deal with it better. Or something.

And then Raven comes in, calculates the probability of Dora getting over her control issues, feeds it into the quantum espressosaurus, hooks it up to a fresh cup of really hot coffee, and turns it on!

You work in a coffee place, you're constantly in touch with "the dark side". (coffee - black - dark - ha ha?)

... btw. WEIRDEST Dora week ever. Tuesday her control issues (which are suddenly more apparent than ever before...) were firing off like new year's eve fireworks and today she's wearing an invisible straightjacket... which is just an unfamiliar and somewhat unlikely look for her.
To me, panel 2 today just looks weird.

Is there a female here that can explain to me the different kinds of emotions conveyed by that pose of Dora's in panel 2? °O

I just see it as a variation of crossing her arms. Or maybe she has goosebumps. I dunno.

Yeah, just another way to cross arms, especially if she's cold which is quite possible in a tanktop. The only body language I get from it is sort of trying to protect herself, which comes across a bit in the last panel.

So ... it will NOT be Cosette who burns down Coffee of Doom.
If I remember correctly, she never burned down her places of business, but her working at places caused things to happen to them. So since she's working at Coffee of Doom, if anyone burns it down, it's still Cosette's fault.

I think she might be consciously trying to not be controlling the situation.  It's not the same body language of 1755-1756 but I imagine she's a lot calmer/more self aware about it now.  And I'm not a lady, but sometimes I make that pose if my arms are already crossed when I see someone doing something really stupid but it's not my business.

Also, because SMBC has something to say on just about every topic: Body language.

Would it be wrong  to make a word filter that changed "expresso" to "espresso" just because that mistake bothers me more than it should?

Filter away! The misspelled word looks like a Hogwarts spell, maybe the quickndirty version of expelliarmus or a spell causing instant peristalsis in your opponent's intestinal tract.

It's not a mistake. It's an Americanized spelling and pronunciation of a foreign word. Everyone understands what is meant when someone orders an expresso, some people just choose to be jerks about it.

Wasn't calling you out, Bachi, it just bugs me. And Boomslang, I wouldn't consider it "an Americanized spelling", that's like "color" instead of "colour". "Expresso" actually changes the pronunciation of the word, as well as making it, well...not a real word.

She appears to be a bit frightened, which is not unusually depending on how old she is supposed to be (do we know her age? I can't remember). I've known women who said that, as young girls, they were terrified about developing breasts as large as the other women in their family. Some, as adults, are glad they did. At least one is sad that she didn't.

(And, wow, I just realized that I have spent a lot of time in the friend zone; lots of talk about boobs but not a lot of actually seeing them.)

I consider "espresso" correct. But Wikipedia points out that both are loan words, espresso from the French, expresso from Spanish, and have the sense of "press out." Express is a verb sometimes used to refer to what happens when grapes or other fruit are pressed in the first step to making wine. The usage I recall is that the juice is "expressed."

I'm pretty sure she's of the age where he puts her to bed by saying, "go to bed." It's her problem if sleep won't come.

We didn't actually see her drink the espresso. I didn't like coffee at all until I went to college. About the same time I learned to like beer. Wonder what that means....

Merriam-Webster's dictionary acknowledges expresso as a variant of espresso, as does the New Oxford American Dictionary.  What we may feel about it is a separate matter from the usage that they record!

I pretty much suspected he was going out on a date, with how vague he was in his explanation.

Am I the only one who thinks he should have been up-front with the reason of why he needed a sitter? I mean, he could have just said 'I'm going out on a date and the sitter can make it'. Now it just looks like he's being sneaky, however unnecessary it might (should?) be.

Just so.  Marten didn't lie about Cosette hitting on him, which wasn't even a thing that he did - and look where that led, especially when he called her on it.

While I definitely don't want her to go ballistic (and I don't think she will in front of the kid), I think she has the right to be a little upset. Sam has a point - if they're gonna be friends, Jim should be able to admit where he's going.
