I love Letters to Cleo too though. In fact, most College radio-type bands usually stick well with me.

That being said... I frickin' forgot all about Matthew Sweet! He is one of my all time faves, I grew up with his music through High School. How dare I forget. >_<

i guess i've kind of outgrown Piebald, but i stand by my belief that they are good clean fun.

I like Underoath and Zao a lot, those are the only "draw blanks" bands that I listen to.

I've only found one person besides me in my city that likes Sigur Rós. I love that band.

A couple of people mentioned Blind Melon. I've always liked them and I still listen to them every once in a while. And it's true, most people won't know any of their songs besides "No Rain".

Catch 22

Though, I live in an area where the only music with a guitar is Linkin Park. Everything else is rap and hip-hop so people give me strange looks if they here Catch 22 or any ska band actually.

besides my compulsion to listen to rap, i like dick gaughan and billy bragg, folk singers (thats probally got something do with the fact that nobody else will touch them with a 10 foot stick) scottish and english respectively, they both veer towards cheese occasioanlly, they sing political and love songs. A different kind of love song by dick gaughan is a good album if your hands on it.

le tigre and bikini kill kick ass, have you heard much of  tilt or elastica's stuff, i just downloaded vaseline by elastica on the advice of a freind introduced to le tigre,  it's pretty good.

and panda don't listen to those silly people. catch 22 is one of the best ska bands ever. i saw them over the summer with reel big fish (another of the best) and they rocked hardcore.

Awesome.  Good to hear that other people liked Letters to Cleo too.  I was just listening to Rim Shak.  Great stuff.

I'll second Catch 22 as well, just for being so ridiculously fast...

Dispatch and Oneida are the only bands ever to come out of Middlebury College.  Never really liked Dispatch, but they were sort of fun live.  Most people at Midd were crazy about them...

 - dieselboy.  when it comes to drum and bass, i have yet to listen to anything as pounding and hyper-kinetic as dieselboys sets.

Someone else likes Tilt and Jack off Jill! I like the songs "Animated corpse" and "Strawberry Gashes" And Bad Brains, Bowie, Breeders, and Talking heads. (I have buttons.) I don't think anyone mentioned Weakerthans or Martha Dumptruck Massacre yet though.

When Blonde Redhead was in Madison I had to beg my friend to go with me. No one I knew has heard of them and seldom do they like them when I play their cd. Come on! Someone back me up on this!

i love zao. haha. did you know that the lead vox for the juliana theory [i forget his name right now, boo to me. emo kids are plotting to destroy me at this very moment.] used to play guitar for zao? i think that's hilarious.

Watched Plaid, then sat in his tent for an hour or so until AFX came on. Double fool.
This lack of enthusiasm also stretches to Kid 606, 65daysofstatic and Venetian Snares.
I'm also failing to get any love for Explosions in the Sky, Themselves, or cLOUDDEAD.

A band I like quite a lot (even if I dont listen to them all that often) is Custom Blue. I am yet to meet a single person that even have heard of them.

When you need to ramp-up or cool-down from listening to deiselboy, you absolutely NEED to get Mocean Worker's "Mixed Emotional Features" album.

That is one of the bands I listen to that noone I know listens to.  He does a New York style DNB... when you hear it you will see what I mean (assuming you have spent a good amount of time in New York).  Dorn is my hero.

the streets are incredible. I didnt think skinner would be able to top his fist album, yet he did. completely amazing.


Also, tilt was a very very very incredible band. However, like most range&angts bands, they lost a lot of their steam after the first few albums. I still listen to "'Til It Kills", 10 years or so after I first heard it.

I cannot praise these bands enough.
Also download These are just years by Idlewild now if you can. Its one of thier B-sides and one of my favourite songs of all time. It takes elements of thier old sound (louder and more forceful) and thier new tone (much more melodic).

Edit: Oh and Coheed and Cambria. Yes his voice is so very high but I like it

Feeder- I saw them when the played their tiny homecoming gig in Bristol quite recently (I know the promoter and thus pulled a blag and got to see them soundcheck and hang out with them) they're phenomenal live and lovely guys, and I'll never understand anyone who says a bad word about them

MARCY PLAYGROUND..believe it or not they actually have 3 albums. ALL of which are AWESOME. the first song i learned on the guitar was cloak of elvenkind. dammit sex and candy..i hate that songggggg gahhhh.

I never see anyone mention The Mountain Goats.

Uncle Tupelo are amazing, and they don't get nealy enough love for the amount of Wilco fans I know.
Also, the eels are criminally underpopular. Everyone I give them to likes them, but I never just meet fans on the street

I find it's funny people are throwing out Dave Matthews Band considering that they've sold a hogillion records and are continually one of the top touring acts in the country.  I love Dave and the boys (and I've got the concert collection to back it up) but you're not in the minority when you say you like 'em. ;)

For me it seems to depend on the circles I move in.  When I'm at shows it seems that everyone is all over it when I talk about Umphrey's McGee or Gov't Mule (to name two bands).  But out on the wide ineterweb as a whole quality bands like UM and the Mule just don't get the credit they deserve.

I love Matchbox 20's first album, and everything by the Goo Goo Dolls up till Gutterflower. That one was dissapointing.

I really liked New Radicals.
