Seriously folks...
"bands you dig that no one else seems to"
"best vinyl records"
"10 favorite songs"
"favorite lyrics"
"which song defines you"
"what are you currently listening to?"
"2 songs everyone should hear"
"top 5 albums of 2004"
"getting ready to go out music"
Can we maybe stop trying to make as many namedropping threads as possible and actually discuss music instead of just listing off shit you've heard?
I can understand having 1 or 2 of these kinds of threads but you folks seriously need to learn to limit yourselves.

Can we just start making up bands instead?
It'd make life much easier.

That was already done at NN2S long ago, although I can't recall the name of the band Mitch came up with.

No.
And I think namedropping Radiohead is pretty ridiculous. If there is anyone out there who's never heard of Radiohead (or at least anyone out there who reads this webcomic), they need to be shot in the face.

ah, internet search engines ever so useful.
http://radiohead1.tripod.com/disc/album/index.htm
pablo honey: 22nd Feb 1993 [UK], 23rd April 1993 [US], Dec 1993 [Japan]
bends:
Release Date: 13th March 1995 [UK], 4th April 1995 [US], March 1995 [Japan]
ok computer: 16th June 1997 [UK], 1st July 1997 [US], 21st May 1997 [Japan]
i remember that radiohead weren't necessarily big before ok computer but they weren't exactly unknown.
also those may or may not be right, the dates i copied and pasted. i didn't double check or anything.

If I knew how to program I'd make an indie band name generator.
Words I'd include in it as they seem to be in so many band names:
Wolf (Wolf Eyes, Wolf Colnel, Peanut Butter Wolf, Patrick Wolf)
Black (Black Eyes, Black Keys, Black Dice)
Eyes (see above)
Peanut Butter
Swans (Swans, Black Swans, Yellow Swans).
Radio (Radiohead, All night radio, others)
Minus (minues five, minus six)
Six (six times seven, six by seven, electric six)
Seven(see above)
Wizard (Wizard, Bad Wizard, Gang Wizard).
I know I had plenty of other ideas for what words to put into it, what other words are cliche enough in band names to go here?

No because that would be childish...
My favourite to drop is Graham Coxon, from a really big height so he screams, 'Help, I'm really sorry for creating crap music since I left Blur and yes I know I just wanted to sound like PiL on 'Freaking Out' bu7t must you send me hurtling towwards my death on those rusty razors.'
Yes, Graham, we must.

Yay for allusion to movie making fun of scenesters...
Which gives us a slew of new words to add to indie band names. Also, "the" should probably be randomly added to the front. And maybe "art" at the end.

Okay, okay, I'm done laughing now. Its so funny because 101 started off with a real sentence, but it just kind of trailed off into emo-nothingness.... He/she could have chosen to but "Album" or something at the end and make it a real sentence, but I think it was a wise choice to leave it at "shell..burn..... leaf."... something very unnerving about it... I keep looking behind me, like the rest of that band name will suddenly come back for another round at trying to fit on an album cover.

Radiohead have to be my all time favourite band (well, one of them). It's actually suprising though how many indie crowd members aren't as fond of them as their reputation would have you believe.

Well, Magik, to give credit where credit's due, I didn't make up that name myself, rather, I saw it in this
satirical take on scene kids
that jeph posted a link to a while back. It is quite humorous.
Apathy, though I too am fond of the Radiohead boys, prehapts the reason their reputation would have you believe they are the greatest thing to happen to music ever, is that they are somewhat over-rated. While they are a good band, and deserve praise, it seems that the mass media (rolling stone, pitchfork and such) seems to worship them.
"But to the devout the band's cerebral art rock was like manna from the heavens."
The way Rolling Stone is talking here sounds like Radiohead is not only writing good songs, but also sending down their only son, Jesus Christ. I mean, I'm pretty sure MTV just automatically slaps a "Buzzworthy" sticker on every Radiohead video that comes out. (They have like 5 videos of that sort, more than a lot other artists).

The thing is, there isn't a whole lot more to discussing music other than listing bandnames. You could get into wordy reviews i guess that describe the sound in vague metaphors, but words can rarely do sound justice. Its best to skip all that, just say yo, listen to this fuckin awesome band they play this genre and sound kind of like this other band, and thats it. Or if someone lists that their favorite bands are Boards Of Canada, Prefuse 73, Black Moth Super Rainbow, and Minus The Peanut Butter I'll know that I might want to check out Minus The Peanut Butter because i know I like the other three.

I don't have a big prob with listing bands sort've.. as long as stuff is said about the sound.. otherwise it can get boring... though I admit, I guess, in the 'what are you listening to' thread I don't mention what it sounds like, so that could be hypocritical of me.. I just post in threads like that (there is one in every forum, I swear!) when I'm bored.
Anyway, there are other topics that could be brought up that I've seen in other forums that aren't just listing bands or talking vaguely about things like the lyrics in story format thread.. I started that at one forum.. where you find a lyric that goes with the last to make a story till you have one big confusing idea.. no song titles or bands listed and fun! I could bring that up here, but I don't know if people are interested in that kind've thing.
Before I begin writing a novel here, I'll just end with discussing music is fun... I don't see it as bragging / namedropping even if sometimes it may look that way.
