Anyone know of any good record stores? Down in Falls Church, VA, USA, there is a great place called CD Celler, which has a decent coffee/ice-cream shop up-stairs, and a fabboo used CD store downstairs. Having moved to Philly, now, I'm looking for a local store. Any suggestions?
What makes a used-record store better than another?

I can't help you with good places to go, but I can complain about the only two independent record places in my area dying horrible deaths.

There are no independent record places in my area at all. Or if they are, they're hiding, and doing it damned well.

Aye, it's a bit sucky...but then, I've NEVER found a record I really wanted that I couldn't order either off the internet or even through the local HMV in a good few cases (I always try it first as it's generally less hassle. Quite surprised recently to find that you can easily order Ayreon albums from them.)

I went to Atlanta this summer with a group of friends, and we went to Little Five Point. It's like Greenwich Village of Georgia. They've got some hot stores there, like Junkman's Daughter, and nearby is little record place. I can't for the life of me remember what it's called, but I got my first Pixies albums there. Any Atlantans on the forums know what I'm talking about? The place is right next to an ice cream shop, or at least it was in July.

In Philadelphia there's a couple places on South Street that you can find some good stuff. There's also a place on 2nd St. around the historical district called AKA Music that has a pretty good selection.
If you're outside of the city, it's a little harder to find some things, but in West Chester (~1 hour outside the city to the west) there's a few places as well. I tend to go to those as I live closer to West Chester than the city, so I know them a little better, to be honest.

Could you let me know the names of the ones in West Chester? I am out near there often enough that I'd be interested to check them out.

For anybody in New York, there's this awesome possum record store called Bleecker Bob's, down on Bleecker street. They have absolutely everything, and for very cheap. Like, usually less than 10 bucks a pop.

The town that I live in has three places where you can buy CDs: HMV, Future Shop (think Best Buy), and Costco.
Because of this I do much of my shopping online, or else when I make trips to the nearest urban centers (a good 500 miles away!), where I frequent Zulu Records (Vancouver) or Ditch Records (Victoria).

What I like about used/indie record stores sit aht you can listen to anything all the way through before buying, you can trade in a lotof your CDs and stuff for store credit, and it's usually got a good vibe to hang out in.

I second that recommendation. Go to South Street between 2nd and 8th, and there's three or four really good new-&-used shops. There's a Tower Records there, too, though their selection is actually kinda shitty.

Reveal Records in Derby, UK. Ace shop, and since I know most of the staff, I can persuade them to put offers stickers on things I want

In West Chester there's two places I can think of off the top of my head and there's surely a few more. Fennario's is a coffee shop off of Church Street (right after it becomes one way) where there's some decent shows every once in a while. Check it out if you're ever there at night. I know they have a website, but I can't remember what it is and it took me a while to find it last time. They also make really good chai.
The Mad Platter is right near...Chestnut? on Gay Street. The address, according to the internet, is 111 West Gay Street. I haven't been there recently but I remember them having a half decent selection.
My personal favorite is Chester County Book And Music right off Paoli Pike. If you take Rt. 202 South it'll be on your right, directly before the Rt. 3 exit. There's a large shopping center on the right (you can see it from 202) and it's in the center of that. Take a right off the exit ramp and another right directly into the shopping center. It's a large indepenent book and music store (it used to be just books but they bought the Rainbow Records next door and opened their own music store). They have $7 used cds (with the occasional treasure inside. It takes a while to sort through it all but it's worth it) and a really good selection of music. They're also willing to order stuff for you, last I checked. Plus it's not actually in West Chester, so there's free and easy parking.
Re: Philly -- Spaceboy Records (part of Zipperhead) has some good vinyl stuff and sometimes free posters; they also have a local music section. It's on South Street, along with a couple others that I can't remember the name of. The Tower Records there has a ticketmaster inside, but otherwise it sucks.
Mmm...not much else I can think of other than good luck and make sure you stop by Jim's Cheesesteak on South Street during your near Philly cd shopping spree.

Amoeba Music. There's one in Hollywood, and two in the SanFran Bay area. It's a huge store with all sorts of used CDs, new CDs, used/new vinyl, from all sortsof genres. They even have cassette tapes. Really awesome store.
That being said, there's a small indipendent record store near my house called Freakbeat REcords, which is pretty cool.

Repo -- that's the name of the one I couldn't remember.
I prefer the Troc, personally. One of my goals is to play a show there at least once, and I
will
do it ;p

That's a good question. If I knew, I'd tell you, but apparently the other guitar (or the guitar, I have no clue if I'm playing guitar or bass now) and the drummer have changed it around or not. We also haven't practiced for mmm...a month or two now, despite the fact that we keep saying we'll do it. The old name was SOL (not my favorite, but I dealt with it).
So instead I'm slowly in my spare time working on my own stuff, and hoping to have a couple songs done by the summer.

This is all great stuff. Thanks! What about Philly indie-bands, or other local bands a QC fan might like. Where do you go to see them?

For local stuff I go Fennario's in West Chester; I don't go into the city often enough to know much stuff in there. I can inquire around with my friends and see if anyone knows. There's a few bars and such where people play, and the Trocadero sometimes has a large Battle Of The Bands type thing.
Stop by any of the record stores on South Street or any of the coffee shops (The Bean Cafe, I think it's called, is pretty good there) for some stuff about local city shows and venues -- you'll find ads and corkboards with info. Same goes with Fennario's in WC.

There's a used record store a little bit away from Waterloo's here in Austin.
I think there's one in Clarksville...

I live in the perfect spot inbetween philly and princeton. The Princeton Rercord Exchange being the best in the US, which I pretty much agree with (to an extent)

I am not good with street names, but from palmers square, if you go towards the Starbucks on that busy road across from the university, its two blocks down from the kiosk on palmers square.
I do not give good directions, but maybe that'll help?
Know what will help more!!
