Do you have a musician you mourn the loss of on a constant basis even though they've been dead for years?
Bradley Nowell of Sublime fame.
I've only met one person who has seen Sublime perform. He saw them at a small house party in Long Beach a few months before they got big. Said Bradley was an amazing, genuine performer. So jealous.

Warren Zevon.
I starting really getting into him, listening to all the viynl my dad had of his, and then I found out he died not to long ago.
I was so bummed. I would of loved to see him in concert.
Him and Joey Ramone.

Dimebag Darrel. I never heard any of his work but it was a terrible way to die. I really feel for his brother, no-one deserves to have their family killed in front of them

Jimi Hendrix. O, I mourn thee. And I gotta admit, Elvis Presley must have been a hoot to see live. There are also many bands that I would love to see, if they still performed. Velvet Underground, Led Zeppelin, and The Doors come to mind. I always find myself wishing I was living when these guys were in their prime.

if you can consider a group of people a singular artist, then i'd say At The Drive-In.
i suppose this gives the conversation a little more lee-way.

Personally, I like Mars Volta much more.
I really wish Elliott Smith hadn't offed himself. I'm obsessed with his work right now.
And I would've loved to see Led Zeppelin play before Bonham died. :-/

These three were the first to my mind
Kurt Kobain I never liked (granted I don't remember when he was alive) but, can't say I'd have missed hime even if I did. (just my feeling on the musician, not the band, don't hate me
)
More may come to mind with time

Thomas 'Quorthon' Fjorsborg of Bathory (\m/), Teemu "Somnium" Raimoranta of Impaled Nazarene and Finntroll (\m/) and Jimi Hendrix (Imagine what he might have achieved if he'd lived on...). On that account, I also wish Chuck Schuldinger of Death had lived longer, he was a genius.
In lesser terms, I also mourn Demonaz Doom Occulta of Immortal and Katla of Finntroll, who have suffered possibly worse fates than death in the eyes of some musicians: Demonaz injured his arm sp severely that he can now no longer play the guitar and Katla developed a non-cancerous throat tumour which prevents him from singing or touring.
As far as groups go, I want Edge of Sanity back. Fuck you Dread Axellson!

"Cobain" is spelled with a C, guys. Just to let you know, not getting angry or anything. I totally agree that it is such a shame that an incredibly creative and unique mind had to wind up being blown out.
Shannon Hoon is a depressing one. I can hardly believe nobody
except torg
has mentioned AC/DC's original singer, Bon Scott. Quorthon's passing was sad, as was George Harrison and - right as I started to get into his music - Warren Zevon.

Ditto elliott smith, johnny cash and selena (heh... really, I cried during the movie).
Also? 2pac.
Yes, I was ripe into my rap phase around the time of his passing and then Dear Mama came on the radio and I shed a few tears. surprisingly wasn't as upset over the B.I.G.'s death a year or two later.. maybe since I was exiting the rap phase and barely heard about it.

Even now, I get tears in my eyes over Joe Strummer. He'd lived, he made a lot of music, but for some reason nothing makes me sadder than the fact that that man is dead. He did so fucking much for music. I can't fucking believe no one else has said that. Also, Brad Nowell.

Re musicians...
Again with the Elliott Smith and Jeff Buckley, but also Richey Edwards...even though in a post manics phase his lyrics sound cringeable, he had a kind of dark charisma. Spawned the most irritating fans in the world, mind...

I was lucky enough to get to see The Ramones only once in my lifetime.
All the good Ramones are dead.
Johnny, Joey and Dee-Dee.
Tommy is the last original left alive, and he quit years ago, his replacement Marky still does stuff with The Misfits whenever they feel like getting together again, but it's nowhere near the same.
The White T-shirt, leather jacket and Keds look is still an indie-rock classic, and will forever be "Ramones".
