The Fate of Questionable Content

With the untimely death of Jeph Jacques on July 01, 2005, it seems that Questionable Content has come to an abrupt end. Although there are at least 3-4 days of comic backlogs, the public may not be able to see them for some time. The Questionable Content community is downtrodden but plans have been made to pay for funeral costs. Jeph died when a automobile ran him over while he was crossing the street.

I doubt (and pray) thats not true, but thats an...erm...interesting vandalism....

Also, its on Jeph's own Wikipedia page.

Just thought I'd point that out. Long time fan, first time poster.

I find it a tad strange that it would make its way through wikipedia before the message board. This is such such a terrible tragedy. God, I don't know what to say.

I fear I must confirm that Jeph was tragically run down in front of the new TopatoCo headquarters this evening.  We were hoping that we would be able to hold off on an announcement until we could get a better idea of what was going on.

I don't have many details, Jeff Rowland was the only witness and is currently hospitalized, we think just for shock.  Obviously he will make a report with the police and details will be forthcoming once we have them.

The info has been on the Wikipedia for a few hours or longer. 95% of the time, vandalism is removed before then. Also, noones confirmed its FALSE in over an hour.

I've lost hope. This is horrible.

edit: it may be worth noting that the newspost was updated at 7:31pm with that link to the cover of comixpedia, and that it was written in the first person.  it doesn't necessarily disprove anything, but still.

This reeks of fiction, But if i were to go on some rant about how this is just some bullshit publicity stunt, I might be viewed as an outrageously insensitive prick, For some crazy reason you cant talk shit about the dead (not like they really fucking care). I hope this isnt true, I was just about to make a post about how jeph had become too comfortable and how QC was becoming trite and cliche'. If he ends up not dead ill post it.

I can't understand how something so horrible could happen to such awesome people. It doesn't make sense.

I mean.. Jeph has touched the lives of litterally thousands of people over the years, given people something to look forward too at the end of their day, even if it was nothing but a smile.

I mean, if it wasn't for Jeph, imagine what your life would be like. No QC. No awesome shirts/hoodies. No being opened up to some of the new music you listen to because your ead about it on Jeph's reccomended listen page, or in the music forums.

I realize that some people read QC and thing "Wow. That's a nice comic" then move on. But there are some of us who have gotten to know eachother pretty well (A little too well, in some cases), and created a group of Pure, Unadulterated Awesomeness.

This group of pure awesomeness would not even exist if it were not for one Mister Jeph Jacques, and I, for one, would have been very cold this winter if it were not for that lovely hoodie he was kind enough to sell me.


My deepest sympathies and best wishes are sent out to his lovely lady, Cristi, and to everyone else that knew him. The world lost one of the most awesome people ever, today.

I was reliably informed this afternoon (Australian time) that it's a prank.  I was hoping that somebody involved in the thing would post here, preferably with an explanation, but I've given them 10 hours and I don't feel I can give them any longer.  Maybe I should have posted hours ago, but I was hoping I wouldn't have to.  My blood's been boiling over this all day, and seeing how upset people are getting (and knowing how profoundly upset I was, even if only for 40 minutes this afternoon) I can't in good conscience stay silent any longer.

To the person who informed me: I hope you got the message(s) I sent you informing me of my intention to make this post so that it doesn't come as a complete surprise to you - but I also hope you understand why I felt like I had to make it.

But if it isn't a scam, then it's pretty curious that there's no obituary notice anywhere.

Boston.com has listings for obituaries in the area and there weren't any deaths in Easthampton yesterday (according to boston.com or any of the local newspapers, like the Daily Hampshire Gazette).

My gut feeling is that this is a hoax, but if it's not... my deepest condolences to Jeph's family and to Cristi.

1. Why wasn't it removed from Wikipedia as vandalism?
2. Why did noone here confirm if was a sham earlier on?

Wikipedia's clock is UTC, or Greenwich Mean Time.

The initial edit to Jeph's page on Wikipedia proclaiming his death was committed at 1 July 2005 15:39, which is 1:39PM Eastern Standard Time.

Jeph's last update on the main page was at 7:31PM, so unless he pulled a Jesus, this is bullshit.

I really hope it's not true, but I went through this earlier this year when Mitch Hedberg died.  The online community was, shocked, the depressed, and then they started trying to find faults in the stories and such, in hopes of proving it as a hoax.  Unfortunately, it wasn't.  Still, I'll hold on to the hope that this is fake.  It would suck to lose both of them (two of my favorite semi-famous people) in one year.

I don't believe it's true. I'm a reader of Over Compensating/Wigu and creator Jeff Rowland, who just moved to Easthampton and is friends with Jeph, faked death awhile ago. This went on for about a week with random comic posts from another OC character, then suddenly Jeff came back from the "dead."

I hope he's just pulling our leg.
