Couldn't you just have a creative binge one day and write a few comics in a session, y'know - create a bit of a butter for the days you know you wont want to be doing the comic?

So. I've noticed a new-found desperation in your story-lines. Does this mean that the Flleet Foxes mixed with Botch have thoroughly melted all the cortexes that matter? (i.e. this Sven/Faye arch is killing the adults.)

 rolleyes

To what extent do you have the story line mapped out in advance, if at all?

Good Lord do I get asked this question a lot.

So. I've noticed a new-found desperation in your story-lines. Does this mean that the Flleet Foxes mixed with Botch have thoroughly melted all the cortexes that matter? (i.e. this Sven/Faye arch is killing the adults.)

Love ya!

Dear Jeph,
As much as I'm usually for free exchange of opinion over the internet, why did this person basically say, "YOUR COMIC SUCKS. Huggles!"?

 rolleyes rolleyes

Well, I'll admit my comment was probably worded a bit too strongly. Sorry about that.

Welp, now I've got to think of a question so this post isn't completely off-topic.

Jeph, what should I ask you?

Thought of something. Have you ever felt the urge to dabble in any other sort of genre? DO YOU HAVE A SECRET SKETCHBOOK OF GOBLINS FIGHTING CYBORG BIKINI BIKERS FROM THE FUTURE?!?!?!?!!111?

Seriously though, have you?

I can't draw well enough to pull of "serious" comics. Besides, writing jokes is more fun.

What are your plans to bring the drunk erotic novelist Jimbo back?

I'm going to do a six-week story arc about Jimbo going to prison on tax-evasion charges. There will be lots of rape.

Have you titled the forum Boner Wars just so it looks like porn if we get a personal reply? I mean, seriously, I thought I had purged all the damned porn and viagra pluggers from that mail account, and then here's some ass promoting Boner Wars.

Yes. I really should change that last participle phrase, but…I just can't make myself. The whole clause is a perverted thing of beauty.

I have ideas about Sweet Tits.

I love that clause, too. Actually, though, I think it's the jean-shorts that caused the feeding frenzy. Any plans to put Hanners in jean-shorts and have a select few posters explode at their monitors from Cutoacidosis (dangerously high levels of cuteness in the blood)?

Finally, is Faye really supposed to have gained weight? I was checking out some of your 'old' stuff the other day and I noticed (again, actually) how much less round her face used to be around comic 800 and before. I wondered: is that a conscious (or unconscious—duh duh daaa!) decision, or just a change in style?

I like giving the board funny titles.

Faye gets rounder as I get better at drawing her.

Regarding this thread:  Good.  Lord.

Regarding updating the art from the original comics:  It would be interesting to see, but I implore you NOT to replace the originals.  There are times I go back and feel I really missed the old days, with it's original style.

I won't.

DEAR ORGANO-JEPH,

PINTSIZE MAKE JOKE AT GHIGHATRON MOTHER.  GHIGHATRON VERY OFFENDED.  WHAT WILL BE DONE ABOUT THIS?

Ban gag accounts, maybe.

What would you choose as the theme song if you were to make a QC TV series?

Fitter Happier by Radiohead.

Jeph,

What happens first when you create a new character?

Do you start with one of the experiments from your sketchbook and figure out what personality goes with it, or do you start by creating the characterization and then figure out how that person needs to be drawn?

Art comes first, then I just make shit up as I go along. Not the best way, but at least it IS a way.

Jeph,

If you suddenly found yourself teleported to the QC universe where you became a new character, what would you do?

Hide.

Couldn't you just have a creative binge one day and write a few comics in a session, y'know - create a bit of a butter for the days you know you wont want to be doing the comic?

Maybe.

Jeph, here's a storyline: Hanners meets Marten's mom

This is not a question  police police police

So, we've all seen the fake poster of the QC movie.  My question is...

What would be your ideal cast if they were to make a QC movie?

Danny DeVito as Marten
Mike Meyers as Faye
Eddie Murphy as Dora
Salma Hayek as Pintsize
Anthony Hopkins as Winslow

Second, what was Dora's major in school? Did it pertain to coffee making?

Third, how much do the baristas make at CoD. I work at Starbucks and I can't move out of my mom's basement...yeah.

Danny DeVito as Marten—Yes! DeVito can do harmless like nobody's business.
Mike Meyers as Faye—I dunno about this one; I really think Adam Sandler does angry better.
Eddie Murphy as Dora—No, no no. You mean Kevin Nealon.
Salma Hayek as Pintsize—I can take or leave this. I really picture Steven Colbert here. Or maybe Eddie Murphy if he's pissed about losing the Dora role.
Anthony Hopkins as Winslow—Again, a bit of a miscast. Steve Carell, man.
Tom Selleck as Hannelore—Oh, yeah! (Or maybe anyone who can do a good late-in-life Howard Hughes impression. Very similar characters except for the naked part. Maybe Hanners could develop a nudism fixation?)

And there we have it—the Womanless Wedding-style dream cast for Questionable Content: The Adventure Sputters. Clearly Jeph grew up in the same sort of twisted culture I did, wherein people actually thought a good Womanless Wedding was about as satisfying as entertainment could get.

1. What, if any, religious views do you hold? I know that you mentioned that that's an entire "can of worms" that you'd rather not open, but I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts.

2. What do you think of Vampire Weekend?

I may be stepping out of place, here, but I'm sure I read the rules thoroughly. Isn't there something vis-à-vis not talking about religion or politics, Mr. LeCorndog?

My question, Mr. Jacques: In a stand up fight, who would win: Marten, equipped with his trusty stop sign, or a 15th Century samurai?

It's been preying on my mind the last couple of days.

Also, besides bourbon (or any sort of whiskey) and canadian beer what alcoholic beverages do you enjoy? Do you like jagermeister?

And finally musically (rather than conceptually) do you prefer Outside or The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars? Also (so I guess technically finally) do you prefer Bowie's "Heroes" or Low album?

I don't like weirdos at conventions. Fortunately there aren't many.

I dislike mornings.

Hanners is the most fun to draw lately. Dunno why.

Both?

I've looked through the entire thread, and don't think I ran across these questions specifically.

1. What, if any, religious views do you hold? I know that you mentioned that that's an entire "can of worms" that you'd rather not open, but I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts.

2. What do you think of Vampire Weekend?

3. God bless you for your wish for "fewer Republicans." Who're you looking towards in November?

1. I am a cheerful atheist.
2. Any band that gets that much hype makes me leery. I haven't actually listened to them yet.
3. There is, as of right now, absolutely no excuse for any sane American to not vote for Barack Obama.

My question, Mr. Jacques: In a stand up fight, who would win: Marten, equipped with his trusty stop sign, or a 15th Century samurai?

I've only needed one surgery (stitches don't count), and I get sick a lot because I travel a lot and get exposed to germs from literally everywhere on the continent.

Outside is my favorite Bowie album, ergo it trumps the rest. I realize this makes me a horrible failure of a person. I like Low better than Heroes.

Do you ever get confused between your characters and characters you know from other comics / movies / TV shows?

Every time I see Faye, I can't help but imagine a little bit of Joan of Arc from Clone High into her. They don't even look that similar.

Also, if most every major character in QC has a crazy back story (mom is a fetish model, dad blows brains out, growing up in space) or at least a back story (in the shadow of prodigy brother, loaded and embarrassed to admit it) - will we ever get to hear Raven's? She's such a confusing character and I'd love to see more of why she is ... how she is.

Lastly ... there was this girl I got to know a while back. We had a bunch of things in common but when someone - don't remember who - dropped the name Questionable Content we just laid on the floor and read it for an hour.
Long story short, QC helped get me laid. I realize it's like thanking a band for writing a song that you danced to but - thank you.

since it takes so many comics to progress a relatively short time into the future, how do you make sure that you don't accidentally abandon developing plot arcs? Do you keep a big ol' checklist or what?
on that note, Raven+Dungeons and Dragons=geeky greatness.

What instrument(s) do you play, and what instrument that you DON'T play do you wish you were extremely good at?
And finally, have you ever heard someone say or ask my first question? I heard it from a teacher at my old school, and I guess its oddness sort of caught on.

If someone wanted to see one strip to get the flavor of QC, which one would you point them to? In other words, what's the most representative episode?

Do you think Hanners will ever get a boyfriend and not scare him off with painful oxidizers and scalding water?
Or um, that same question excluding the latter half?

Probably not.

So I've got a question. I've been reading this comic from the beginning and I'd like to know, how do you pronounce Tai's name? Is it "Tae" or "Tie"...? It's a question that's been stuck in my head since the introduction of Tai.

Tie.

How do you pronounce "pwnd"?

I don't.

Do you ever get confused between your characters and characters you know from other comics / movies / TV shows?

QC helped get me laid.

Nope.

HELL YEAH

since it takes so many comics to progress a relatively short time into the future, how do you make sure that you don't accidentally abandon developing plot arcs? Do you keep a big ol' checklist or what?
on that note, Raven+Dungeons and Dragons=geeky greatness.

I just try to keep shit straight in my head and do what I feel like doing.

Can you draw any 2 [or more] QC characters [whoever you think is suitable] with the following t-shirt designs on them? ^_^

Nope, sorry.

AUGH.

I play guitar and bass and computer. I wish I could play drums.

I dunno. The last week I guess?

Here's a real one:

In Comic 239, Dora says "Bianchi is a last name often given to people with light hair or fair skin, it runs in the family." But later on, it's her Mom with the light hair, not their Dad. So uh, did they take her last name, or what?

...I swear I wasn't combing through the comic for inconsistencies, that just jumped at me.  undecided

I'm not sure if this has been asked before, but I've been wondering - How much QC time has passed since the comic's beginning?

Hello Jeph,

Does it ever astonish you how much investment some people have into QC? How does it make you feel that certain fans will dissect not only the stories but everything from the hairstyles to the underwear of the fictional people that you created?

Dude, this has been nitpicked more than a second-grader after a lice outbreak:

Also- Jeph, do you think you use scatological humor most when you're feeling down? Because in the earliest days of the comic it was used the most and you said that QC was originally going to be a much angstier comic, and since then whenever you have made poop jokes et cetera they were usually accompanied with a newspost saying something like "sorry for the poop joke this and that happened and shit".

Also, is the above question more on the side of nitpicky or reasonable? I really can't tell myself but it seems kinda on the side of the former.

Jeph, longtime lurker here.

Would you ever consider a strip where the characters of QC meet their proto-selves (i.e. Martin circa 2003)?

I think t'would be comical, if not continuity-preservant.

Also, THANK YOU FOR CREATING, you've made my days a whole lot brighter. grin
