since you keep your replies short and quick, I'll follow suite:
- can we see a strip or two of Hannelore herself visiting the shrink that Faye does, since Hannelore's the one who recommended her
- are you thinking of taking ideas from your own visits with the shrink and incorporating them into Faye's/Hannelore's (?) visits with the shrink?

well yeah but it's like...
"Jeph, are you going to draw a strip with content I am suggesting in this post?"
"Jeph, are you going to reveal the contents of your private therapy sessions to an audience of thousands of people?"
I am pretty certain the answer is going to be "no" on both accounts. I can't be entirely sure but I am pretty confident jeph isn't going to do either of those.

I wasn't being sarcastic. Or wait, maybe I was. I mean I love it, but as a compliment. You did it right, and yeah, Jeph probably gets sick of questions like that.

If he says no, he says no. He talks about various things on his twitter and other parts of his personal life on his newsposts to an audience of thousands of people, and it's just a suggestion. Couldn't hurt to ask.

just depends what the script and/or story are calling for. I don't go out of my way to draw (or avoid drawing) the more risque stuff, I just go with the flow.

File this under "Easier to ask forgiveness than permission"
I was doing a crossover comic recently, including cameos from several other strips (with author permission). Among the cameos were Li'l Mell and Sergio, from Shaenon's Garrity's "Li'l Mell". Mell is a pretty distinctive character, but I thought Sergio needed something to add visual interest. Then I thought, "Hey, Sergio's a super-genius, I bet he'd like a 'Math Is Delicious' t-shirt!"
I wanted to ask permission to use the image, but it was kind of a last-minute addition and I had to get the comic posted. Here's how the character ended up:
In the text underneath, I added a link to the QC main page and another to the Topatoco store. I know I should have asked permission first, but I did give you credit as the author. Again, if I was out of line, I apologize.
The full image can be seen at
http://www.webcomicsnation.com/eddurd/everydayheroes/series.php?view=single&ID=164189
.
Thanks for all your great work,
Ed

Jeph.
I've been reading your comic for a while now, I don't remember how long, and so I've decided to make my mark in this post (mainly out of sheer boredom).
Stupid question #1: If you had a time machine, where would you go
Stupid question #2: If a sperm whale was fighting a swarm of angry dolphins, upon which foe/group of foes would you bet on and why
Legitimate question #1: What/who are your artistic inspirations, if any?
Legitimate question #2 and #3: Although your art will constantly evolve, do you have an artistic goal in mind for the strip? What do you feel are your main artistic weaknesses at the moment (if you're actively working on any)?
I ended up putting more thought into this than I intended, which is a sure sign that it's time to finish.

stupid 1: the future, return with technology, become vastly wealthy/powerful
stupid 2: dolphins. they're smarter and bigger jerks.
real 1: everyone. lately in particular Danielle Corsetto and random manga
real 2a: the goal is to not be terrible at drawing someday
real 2b: consistency, figure drawing, and variety, the three things I have always sucked at

The Dalai Lama reincarnates. He will be back, whether he wins this round or not. The pope will be in heaven... or somewhere. But he won't be here.
So the Dalai Lama wins
the game
.
Sorry, but either
(a) There is reincarnation. Then both the pope AND Dalai Lama will return.
(b) There isnt. Then neither will return.

Unless, of course, you only get to return if you
believe
in reincarnation. Then the Dalai lama comes back, and the pope is stuck waiting for the end times.
Also, re your previous post, Benedict XVI
was
a member of the Hitler Youth. But then again, it was the German equivalent of the Boy Scouts at the time. Nice uniforms, camping, survival skills... everyone joined!
Hardly a Nazi, just a Nazi-in-training.

At the age of 14, he joined the Hitler Youth, as was required of young Germans of the time, but was not an enthusiastic member.
So yeah, technically he was part of the nazi party, but as the text says, not a nazi ideologically speaking. Fair do's. I don't hate him because he was forced into military service by a dictator. I strongly dislike him because he thinks homosexuality is a moral sin, rejects that use of condoms saves lives (especially in Africa) and thinks that abortions are horrible full stop. In other words, because he's stuck in the old testament idea-wise.

Oh,
that
. Yeah. But aren't all popes? I mean, Catholic doctrine is just that - doctrine! It's gonna be hard for any one pope to contradict centuries of theological dogma to reverse some of these ideas. J-P II came close, but ultimately failed.
However, this is the ask Jeph thread, not the religion thread. Haven't found that one yet... don't plan on starting one, either.
Not after the late October WCT homophobe slashfest - that was
not
a religious discussion!

Bubble-less text materializing around motion-blurred hands?
The potential is amazing, since so few people know sign language - the comments about the speaking characters and the misinterpretations between the two worlds could make for a lot of classic comedy!
Of course, you also get this with foreign-language speakers in comics, usually indicated by putting their comments (translated) in brackets of some sort <like this>. Heliothaumic does this quite a bit, since there are at least three major languages in that comic world.

speech bubbles coming from hands in motion, possibly with text in brackets

Just a few questions:
1. Would you ever consider redrawing the early strips, as some webcomic creators have done, or leave the progression in art to stand?
2. What inspired the current arc? Are you coming out as an anime fan or something?
3. Of all places, why the French Riviera? (Nothing against it, I'm just interested)
Also, you seem like a really cool guy to regularly talk with your fanbase. If I could give you a high-five and/or thumbs-up, I would.

1. no, although I will have to redo some strips I'm missing the art for in the first book
2. it seemed like a funny idea. i like some anime but i feel no need to "come out" about it
3. what?
I'm not that cool, really.

Unless, of course, you only get to return if you
believe
in reincarnation. Then the Dalai lama comes back, and the pope is stuck waiting for the end times.
I think the whole point of reincarnation is to NOT reincarnate. In Hinduism/Buddhism, reincarnation is basically flunking a grade and having to go repeat it. So not-believing in reincarnation probably won't get you off the hook.

Point taken, but there's always a Dalai Lama - it's assumed to be the same soul reincarnated ad infinitum (ad nauseam?), so I think I'm still right...

Jeph,
In strips like today's where a character has sustained an injury to the schnoz, you have them speaking accordingly, like someone with a nose injury would. When writing this dialogue, do you plug your nose and mumble the lines to yourself?

If I remember correctly from my World Religions class in high school, the Dalai Lama has already attained nirvana, and would be able to exit the reincarnation cycle to add to the oneness of the universe, but he chooses to continue to come back to the world to help other souls find nirvana.
