Songs That Put You In A Good Mood
« on: 02 Jan 2009, 22:44 »

This was kind of inspired by the 'which songs have made you cry thread'.  What songs can always put you in a good mood?  Like no matter what'd going on when you hear the song, you just feel kind of better about everything?

For me, "Keep Fishin'" by Weezer, "Change" by Blind Melon, and "American Girl" by Tom Petty always do it for me.  I don't really know why, they just sort of strike up something in me where i feel great while listening to it.

I wouldn't listen to the music I do if it didn't put me in a good mood.   I dunno, a little gangsta rap in the morning goes a long ways to making the day rock and roll.

That's true. Something with a big beat and heavy bass can really wake you up in the morning. I choose 'California Love' myself. The original with the piano and horns, not the remix.

Hell yeah.   I have to get up early every day for my Minimal Change Disease treatment and I just bounce really heavy bass and hard beats to get up.    Music rules.

"Too Close to See" by Strung Out.

Mainly for these lines:

"Sometimes you get too close to see a whole different side of what life can be...
And if you stare too long it all becomes a blur and it's easy to forget just who we are,
Don't stare too hard, take a look around..."

I can be feeling absolutely shit, and those few words will put things into perspective.  I'm planning on getting "Don't stare too hard, take a look around" tattooed, as part of a design that my friend's made for me.

"Bowl of Oranges" by Bright Eyes has a way of making everything just seem a little better.

Usually Bright Eyes is just downer music for me, but this one song just brightens everything.

So, are we talking "good mood" or just "makes you energetic?" Because a lot of the songs that make me energetic are actually pretty crappy (e.g. "Party Hard" by Andrew W.K. Terrible song, but it gets me energized)

Tenacious D - Beelzeboss

I started typing a bunch of whole albums that do it for me, but as a single song, to hold above all others, this is it.

The alternate take of "Let's Take a Walk Around the Block", from the C.D. reissue of Ella Fitzgerald Sings the Harold Arlen Songbook, where she almost fluffs a line, recovers in the nick of time, and laughs and cries out "Whoa-ho!" before continuing onto the rest of the (hilarious) song.

My good moods are more obscure than your good moods.

Ella Fitzgerald wasn't a scat singer. She was a singer who sometimes sang scat (and was exceptionally good at it).

It's cheerful, full of vitality and energy, while still bearing the moody atmospherics of its post rock roots.

"Best Days" - Graham Colton
"These are the Nights (album version)" - Making April

The second one is a bit controversial due to judgement if you were to look up the band themselves, but this is "best days" by Graham Colton:
