Ice hockey is good.  It would be great without the fighting.

Denmark 24 - Spain 25. WE'RE MOVING TO SEMIFINALS BABY.

Too bad I couldn't watch it. I wonder how different it was to the thorough ass-kicking dispatched on the Spanish World Cup finals a couple of years ago.

Seriously, they're not even good.

Marshawn Lynch is going to get fined for that.

Tom Brady. All that and he's married to Gisele, too.

Pats won. I only came a little bit.

Also, yeah, that Nationwide commercial was fucked up. "Hey, I'm a dead kid, something something, somehow having nationwide would have saved me".

That's the thing, he tried getting too smart. I bet if the Pats called a timeout like Pete Carroll must of thought they'd do he'd have changed the play call. He tried pulling a fast one and didn't have time to think it over.

I do not foresee the Seahawks getting back to the Super Bowl any time in the near future.

The NFC is a wide-open conference, and any one of the other 15 teams... okay, I do take that back, there is the NFC South - but there are a lot of teams that could knock them off and go to Super Bowl 50 (eyebrow raised at Papersatan) next year in San Fran.

I'd go back with the Packers.

Anyway, Tom Brady is giving Malcolm Butler the truck he got for MVP seeing as Butler saved everything. That's nice, I mean, Tom Brady probably takes dumps worth more than a Colorado (seriously, think about it, someone would pay a lot of money for anything that came out of Tom Brady), but it's the gesture that counts.

When facing teams that are currently above .500, we slaughter them. When playing teams currently under, we get hosed. Predators have been smashing all season. Have fun getting eliminated by us [emoji41]

I'm just glad we're not as bad off as CBJ. How in hell do you go from being that serious a contender in the Cup playoffs to being a team so deep in the basement that they've got more games played than they do points?

I'm just happy that it was Tampa Bay that blew us out. They deserve it after that classy ass move with giving Nabby back so he could retire in teal. :')

That's the thing about all the North American major leagues, with 30 teams each, that means the average time between championships is 30 years. Even with random distribution of championships, a drought of 60+ years wouldn't be unusual. Add in the fact that some franchises are richer and better organized, and you'll get LOTS of teams rivaling or surpassing the Cubs eventually.

(Psst... The NFL has 32 teams. Technically there are 122 teams between the " big four" team sports in NA.)

I didn't watch the video, but the framing of the story made it sound like he was conceived the last time they won a championship? It's a common enough trope in sports reporting that I had a reasonably decent chance in being right without watching or looking the team's history up.

And re: 32 NFL teams, I was talking in round numbers, so your correction is irrelephant.  :clairedoge:

So apparently, the fact that the World Cup is being played in Qatar is bullshit. I haven't been following (mostly because I don't follow football much), but it seems there's been a bunch or corruption and other types of accusations thrown at Qatar, apparently for good reason. Any of that true? I'm not well versed on things, but I've seen a bit of "Boycott Qatar" stuff going around.

Not to mention the horrific treatment of LGBT folks there, and FIFA's dismissal of criticism.  Or, for that matter, the near slave-like conditions for many of the workers.

Any of that true?

Well, that's the sticky wicket really. The bid keeps getting called into question by people in positions well placed to make those allegations but the fucking weasel honourable and upstanding Sepp Blatter and his cronies legitimate business associates have produced some "reports" that say all is above board and Bristol.

As for calls to boycott Qatar? We run into exactly the same issues that we ran into with Sochi. The players themselves have absolutely no input into the bidding and decision process but we're asking them to forfeit their right to a traditional competition that has been running for decades for reasons of the sort of politics we usually expect them to keep their nose out of at any other time.

To my mind though, it doesn't really matter. It's just a game, does it really matter what the bidding process is?

Man. Saturday's showing against the Kings was a fucking embarrassment. It may have been a close score, but the Sharks played like total shit. I'm pissed they put Scott in the lineup for the night, he was useless. He shoulda fought and taken the 5min penalty so that not only could we get a spark from it, but also so that real hockey players could be on the ice.

I'm a Bruins fan, so I guess you can say I'm a bit upset too... after they finally snapped a 6-game losing streak (that included a loss to Edmonton...) They are now down one of their better defensemen in Miller and their top-line center in Krejci. It's tough for me to watch them this year basically.
