Hm, I think this metaphor makes me the annoying Temperance Movement rep in the corner.

It's okay, it's not just a bar. Wanna go play fooseball or something?

Random thought, although relating to the wrestling hysteria of the last week or so: The green used in the Justice League cartoon for anything Green Lantern does is referred to by the writers as 'DX Green.'

A packet of silica gel in a recent purchase carried a label that said "DO NOT EAT".

I'd save money on groceries and save time otherwise wasted on trips to the bathroom, and lower my carbon footprint, but that does strike me as overly intrusive and arrogant advice coming from a packet of silica gel unaware of its non-metabolizing privilege.

I don't see how any of those things is a result from defying the instructions of the silica gel packet. Regardless, the main reason the silica gel doesn't want you to eat it is because it has a job to do: keeping things dry, some of which you do want to eat.

Another random thought: You could tattoo (or just draw) a platypus on your finger and make your fingernail the bill.

It didn't say "DO NOT EAT ME". It said "DO NOT EAT". Silica gel has the same obligations as everyone else to communicate clearly.

My mother occasionally tells of the time that she was doing her Cert. Ed. and - for some reason - the subject turned to the spelling of 'diarrhoea'. After various variations on a theme of 'dye arrrgh hoe ear', a woman with a very thick Welsh (I don't know which part of Wales) accent at the back of the room says 'I find the runs works just fine, thank you.'

Ah but it does house porters, just the type that comes in pints.

I wish there was some way to convince Vladimir Putin to invade the United States. Preferably Alabama. 'Hey, Vlad, they've already seceded once. They don't like Washington much. Sounds good. Send over a few airborne troops in ambiguous camouflage. They'll probably just figure they're homeland security. Give it a shot.'
