So, 20 year old guy from Norway here. Currently an engineering student, in Trondheim.

Started reading webcomics a little over three years ago, after starting the Norwegian equivalent of high school, and Questionable Content was one of the first ones I read throug. Now it's one of my favorites, along with Sluggy Freelance, Between Failures, Goblins and Gunnerkrigg Court. So, I just stumbled accross the forums, and though I might as well join and see if there's any fun people and interesting conversations to be had!

It's of course nice when it comes to public services, living conditions and all that stuff, tho

Norway is awesome! But very, very, very cold. (My perspective is limited - I was there for two weeks in December 2011, or was it 2010? Either way it was very very very cold that year.) Free ice rinks, excellent social welfare, beautiful scenery, underfloor heating...

It's largely a matter of being familiar with the general appearance of various encodings as a result of working with them.  I've done a lot of low-level work with email, so I recognised that encoding sort-of instinctively.

Pilchard's message was the hex representation of the characters of a base64 encoding of text which had been passed through ROT13.
