The Art Practice/Request Thread!
« on: 03 Sep 2013, 21:00 »

Hi!
Some people in our community have serious talent and skills, and would like to practice for the betterment of their art!
So, here in this thread we can make requests for artwork and hopefully one of our talented users will use our requests as practice or just for fun!

Have a deviantart account? Link it here!
Have some cool doodles you did for someone? Link it here!
Did you make something for a friend or another forumite? Link it here!
Do you just want something cool to be made for you? Ask here!

For those of us who lack artistic prowess, let's try to be constructive, kind, and not overly-demanding with our artist friends, m'kay?

So, to get the ball rolling:

I want something that combines the characters of Jiraiya, Snorlax, and Edward Elric.
A quick google search of the names should give a good idea of what they look like.

Maybe it could be a snorlax with a robe of some kind? I don't know.
I'd like anything anyone makes :D

Here is a request/challenge:

a Modernized, semi-3D rendering of a family coat of arms.
This is NOT mine.
My family's is sort of like this

but only one lion, and no green; nor hand, star, spikes or moon.
the shield has four quadrants, of White, yellow, red and blue.
there are ivy/olive laurels upon the helm.
and instead of twisting leaf, ours has red/white/yellow twisting banner.
My great uncle has the image, but I've never seen it on the internet.
I'd like to add symbols of industry and education and information to the quadrants: try to make it more contemporary.

But I SUCK at artwork, and my MS Paint skillz would leave you gasping from laughter.

So.

  PLEASE?

Words would fail to express the grin on my face right now.

my results, after much trial and frequent error, are not worth sharing. My point: I suck at photoshop. My attempts to connect the lines in order to simply use the paint bucket tool in the white spots did not go well, at all. And no, I'm not sharing these results.

1. Because they are pitiful.
2. Because I deleted them in a fit of rage.

Oh, I'd love to have some more black and white drawings to colour in! I'd probably print them out and colour them - I love colouring sheets.

I can't read Japanese, but in Chinese it reads 食小油 which literally means "small oil food" (small pieces of fried food) which is a term for this sort of thing:

haha that's one of the first google image results you get for it Akima. The characters are meant to represent each of the fictional characters the picture is based on. 食 is for "shoku," which means eating or food, for Snorlax. 小 is for "ko," which means small size, for Edward Elric. And 油 is for "abura," which is for oil, representing Jiraiya the Toad Sage.

Dammit Nutty, I hate how talented you are.

I also love how you finally got Emo Wonderwoman a baby!

Yes, the meanings are the same in Chinese, but the words are different. = shí (to eat, food) or sì (to feed); = xiǎo (small); = yóu (oil).

I'm not wasting my talent! I like doing requests. Thanks for the /r/Icandrawthat link, I hadn't found that one. I've posted on /r/redditgetsdrawn before, as well as /r/sketchdaily. My username there is /u/nuttychooky, if you're interested. My deviantart is the same, at nuttychooky.deviantart.com, and I have a facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/nuttychooky (you may be noticing a pattern, haha). Deviantart has the most complete gallery, including the six-month-old stuff that I'm embarrassed of.

I've done plenty of requests for lots of different groups before, so don't worry. Occasionally I even get paid, but to be honest I'm often just glad of the practice- I try and draw daily as it is, so sometimes it's nice to shift the burden of finding a subject onto someone else.  :-)

In short, keep the requests coming, and I'll try to check back and come up with something. You're welcome to contact me at any of the places above too, if you want to discuss a request specifically with me rather than with the community. (I'm probably more likely to remember/ put more work into something that way, too  :-P)

Ooh I have an idea.

I like to imagine that if my dog could talk, she'd be constantly cursing everyone out and acting like a self-entitled monster.

Would you draw my dog, Bodhi (Boh-Dee), rudely demanding to play with a ball, get pet, or sniff a crotch?

I'd love to be surprised, so just go for it and do whatever.

Here are some pics for reference:

Please? <3

It's just funny because tennis balls never last long with her. They are torn to pieces as soon as they are thrown. They don't even hit the ground.

We actually have her play with an old deflated blue basketball.

(It wasn't always deflated)

Haha, my Great Grandmother had a foxy terrier that used to rip all the fur off her tennis balls and play with them until they split right in two. We'd have to buy them in bulk.

My dad has a big black labradoodle who loves to chew on balls, so they buy him tough rubber balls that last a bit longer. Once he was playing fetch on the beach and carefully retrieved the ball, then trotted out to sea and dropped it. After a few minutes it drifted back in, so he picked it up again, galloped out and dropped it further from the shore. It drifted off and never came back.

ok, i need an image for the title page of my latest paper for english class - a PSA for "an important and relevant issue"

so as to not piss anyone off, i chose "use alternative energy". came up with a decent design, but rather than submitting my horrendus sketch or trying to smoosh something together from google images, thought i'd commmision a peice from you guys =D

its supposed to be a sad dinosaur holding onto an oil can (preferably dripping), that's marked with some sort of symbol indicating its toxic, with a big red "no symbol" over it.
linked below is my horrendous sketch to give you a general idea:
https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B7h17Gvl8vapOTNyNmVPZy05cGs/edit?

feel free to take some artistic liberties :P

due noon-ish monday (PST) at the absolute latest!
