I was wondering about that - Marten's inability to hold on to good feelings has been the topic of many comics & as someone who's done his share of wrestling with anxieties/OCD, I thought there might have been a specific medical background Jeph had in mind (Like with Faye (Trauma), Dora (control/sibling/something issues) or Hanners (OCD))
Do you recall which Q&A dump that was? (Or just wether it was the tumblr ones, or in his 'soup'?)

With the exception of Dora, who is a small business owner, and Raven, who’s back to school, finding career paths seem like fairly low priorities for your characters. Is that an intentional decision to leave a clear path to focus on their emotional lives? A function of time moving more slowly in the strip than it is in the real world? Is it a function of living in a college town without a lot of non-academic industries or a terrible economy? And whatever happened to Hannelore’s counting business?

A lot of it is based on who I was in my twenties, and the Northampton folks I know who are that age now. When you’re living in a college town and all you’ve got is a liberal arts degree, you’re pretty much gonna take whatever job you can get that pays the bills and isn’t too demanding. I think the philosophy is that working a job that is relatively low-responsibility and low-committment gives you more time and energy to focus on the stuff you REALLY care about. That’s certainly how I felt about it when I was 23!

So maybe Marten is 'just' disoriented & discouraged, rather than wrestling with some specific medical issue?

(*) I should maybe make a point of making it known that I was referring to the "clichee" of the employment perspectives of many good & highly educated people who done nothing worse than choosing to follow their hearts desire, and not thumbing my nose at the humanities & their graduates.

Well aware, well aware. But a possible deduction on can draw from some of these established facts plus others is that there's nothing that makes her fundamentally adverse to sex-toys. Except for the possibility of things getting messy down the line. Which I don't want to be too graphic about, and may be what makes me unconfortable with that line of thought.

Their main concern is Faye's handling of the situation. Angus has of course told Faye, and Faye has encouraged him to pursue his ambitions, but he is still very unsure how Faye will react if it comes to reality. Faye might get depressed, bitchy (even more than usual), and perhaps start drinking again. She might also terminate their relationship, which Angus obviously does not want.

Jeph might want to have a storyline about the challenges of long distance relationships, or he might just want to make changes in QC. Still, I hope he does not write Angus out of the series, as he makes a good contrast to Marten,with Angus having ambitions, whereas Marten just does not know what to do with his life.

It's a legitimate concern, but Marten's right, Faye is a tough girl. Even Dr Corrine (who isn't known for humoring her patients) mentioned that considering what she went through, Faye was relatively well-adjusted. Dora couldn't handle a long-distance relationship because her imagination would go wild with insecurities. Faye has abandonment fears, not trust issues like Dora. She has a hard time giving her trust, but once she has given it she doesn't question it at every turn. She even mistakenly trusted Sven for something that had never been clearly formulated between them. Angus had to go through ordeals for that, but he earned her trust. There may be some hardships, but they should be ultimately fine.
