In her personal life, she did have the peanut oil and trout incident, which she was willing to talk about with Dora when they had just met.

Fearless prediction: the impact of Martenmom's past on her getting to know Jim will follow the Principle of Maximum Awkwardness.

in fairness, Dora did recognise her on sight, and her dad knows her too.. i guess a little trout/peanut oil anecdote would be more acceptable in that circumstance than first coffee date.

also, with VV saying she's self-employed.. she might have only said "i'm a professional model" or "i do modelling sometimes" to gain some common ground. she did know beforehand that he owned the bakery.

that said, i would like this to go smoothly. Ms. Reed has always struck me as quite a nice lady.

I would expect that V.V. has told Jim what she does for work--she seems very open about it--and Jim replied by telling her what he does for work.  Her telling him about what she does publicly and professionally wouldn't automatically have to lead to his telling her what he does or doesn't like to do privately in the bedroom.  The very fact that we know nothing about what Jim is into sexually indicates that he's at least a little bit private about such things, and V.V. might find it a nice change from her work life to get to know a man without focusing on kink right from the start.

Strictly, it indicates only that the matter has not come up in the comic - whether that's down to Jeph or Jim is inknown.

Yeah, it's possible she's not into it personally. If it is a dealbreaker for her, as it is for plenty of kinky people, I would have expected it to come up, that's all - though if he does know it's her job then at least he's not horrified by it. As for the rolling eyes, personally yes I would have wanted to make sure we're nominally compatible in bed before meeting someone. It's not that weird.

Marten keeps making those faces at his mom like insinuating everything she says has to do with sex, and then he gets all mad when she brings up sex. He's the one who keeps going there! She's being a very good girl with regards to his boundaries for once.

Three Dads would more than offset Mom's domineering... in most cases. Not this one, though.

There might be an awkward moment when Sam asks what VV does for a living. But Sam is a tough girl, I guess she can handle it. I guess she would not approve, though.

Sam as Marten's stepsister might be interesting. Marten will need to toughen up if he is to gain Sam's respect. However, Sam and Faye are good friends, and Sam might use her stepbrother just to hang out more with Faye. Marten and Faye's apartment will not be a very safe place.

Weird how?

Someone steady like Marten would make a wonderful big brother for Sam.

I thought Faye was fantastic with Sam.

Does today's P2 Martenmom have green hair?

Not on my monitor.

I love how everyone still calls her Martenmom, lol.

There might be an awkward moment when Sam asks what VV does for a living. But Sam is a tough girl, I guess she can handle it. I guess she would not approve, though.

Why not? I'd think she'd think it's cool. She's a rather rough-and-tumble girl; that Veronica has probably whips and chains and stuff, and bosses men around for a living might be seen as cool. (Though I suspect Sam will dislike any woman her dad dates, I just don't think she'd have a specific problem with Veronica's career.)

(Also, is Vera a nickname for Veronica? 'cause it's a hassle typing out the full name.)

I'd suggest that Marten's a bit old to be counting dads like that.

I've always seen the dad-counting as him being supportive.

EDIT: Fun fact -- it was Jeph's thirtieth birthday exactly 1000 strips ago :o

The lack of the comma and the "h" doesn't affect the meaning of the statement.

Technically I have four moms and three dads, but two of the moms are at below room temperature at the moment.

One of my teachers had three mothers-in-law. Her husband's father had been married three times, all when he was a child. No two could be in a room together. All would be gravely insulted if not invited.

Marten -- the man with three dads!

Nicely predicted.
Yeah. I suspect that the erotic aspect would go over Sam's head and she'd just think that any career that uses badass toys was pretty cool.  Sam, while very tough and smart, is in some ways pretty young for her age and not really showing signs of puberty yet, and I can picture her playing with V.V.'s BDSM gear in a totally nonsexual way. ("I am Whipmaster, master of whips!")

As far as disliking women her dad dates, wasn't she cool with Dora's date with Jim?

You're absolutely right!  Marten couldn't offer the same hands-on practical education, unless Sam is into music. He'd treat her as respectfully as Faye did, and more politely. At her age that's like water in a desert.

And I'm pretty sure she will have disclosed her work. She's not secretive about it, they're adults, and work is something that generally gets mentioned early. And if she hasn't, I mean, she googled him. He could easily have done the same

That depends on the Vocal Coach

Us classical vocal coaches fiercely discourage singers from sounding like Pavarotti in the first place. He's a bad role model for pretty much everything music related.
Three Dads isn't that far from Three Tenors. How about Three Tenors who happen to have Children?
