Quote
I did a report on the history of witches as my final project for my religious studies, and I learned some very interesting things.

If you go back before the big Christian witch hunts you'll see a lot of reports of people getting burned for accusing others of being witches. The explanation was because the church believed that only through God could you perform "magic" so even if someone tried to cast spells and what not it would be ineffective. Therefore the belief that others could perform magic was seen as just as pagan as people attempting it.

So if you accused someone of being a witch there was no grantee the "witch" would get killed, but you sure as hell would just for thinking witches existed.

As we all know the church eventually gave in to the people's demand for "justice" and the big witch hunts started.

The problem I have with that argument is that it's a whole lot cheaper to invent those things without landing SUVs on Mars as well.

Satellite TV requires satellites, which are rather NASA's thing!  And someone would have needed to think of a reason to invent memory foam.  The others seem a normal fallout from progress; I'm a bit puzzled at their claiming water filters, for instance - they probably invented some effective filtering medium based on sintered metals or something, I guess.

When you are in a closed system with limited storage space for anywhere from days to months at a time, all sorts of recycling, including water filtering, is absolutely necessary.

So... pretty much all of them?

Course, teaching Miku and her friends to sing in English is proving a bit more difficult.

V3 English is pretty impressive as a lead forward

but has it's pitfalls

And with thousands of people working on the open source programs the Vocaloids/Diva project is growing by leaps and bounds in all sorts of interesting directions.

It's not common, but it exists, especially in areas with large Irish populations.  One of the cafés I used to frequent in SF had it on the menu.

I'll bet blood pudding, blood tofu, pig-blood-cake, bood-sausage, blood-stew etc. are widely available in every Chinatown, Koreatown, Little Tokyo, Little Saigon etc. too. Only people who have forgotten hunger (and weird veggies like me of course), would disdain blood. I mean, haven't you eaten a rare steak?

I was not aware that blood tofu was a thing.   :psyduck:

I use extra-bloody meat in my chili, so I guess it's not that odd.  But blood tacos are just weird.  I kind of want to know who the first person was to think "Imma fry this blood til it's dry and chunky and make tacos with it."  Admittedly, they taste okay, but still, who thought of that?

Good point.  The Irish were only about 30% of that neighbourhood, and 40% were Chinese (the rest was everybody else).  It made me happy since I could get all my food at inexpensive Asian markets, and there were plenty of Irish pubs with cheap drinks.

Yes, it is a thing. Technically 血豆腐 (xuèdòufu) is not tofu at all, in the sense that it is not made from bean-curd. It is simply the blood of one of several common animals coagulated into a solid block that looks something like a block of red tofu.

also traditional jews & muslims, jahovah's witnesses, and greek orthadox christians. (those last 2 were new ones on me)
A good point. I am fuzzy on other cultures' and religion's dietary rules, but I should not have forgotten they exist.

Yes, it is a thing. Technically 血豆腐 (xuèdòufu) is not tofu at all, in the sense that it is not made from bean-curd. It is simply the blood of one of several common animals coagulated into a solid block that looks something like a block of red tofu.

 :psyduck:

I don't know what worries me more, that someone  saw the CONGEALED BLOCK OF BLOOD and went "Heh, we should call it Blood tofu.", or that I kinda want to try it at least once.

Even weirder, Bar Harbor, Maine, is natively pronounced with precisely zero "R" sounds.
