OINK Invites

Skibas_clavicle:
I thought I asked for one of the invites when this thread was first made....fuck!

If anyone's got one left over on either either OiNK or Indietorrents, I'd really like one. My email's on my profile of just pm me! Thanks!

That was more directed at the poster below you, who still only has a post count of one.  And no, I don't have an invite, but really, I don't want one.  I can get plenty of music other ways.  Maybe one day I'll request one, but for now, I'm fine.

And, of course, we have another poster with one post asking for an invite.  Just a tad annoying, no?

not really, because that means that if people have free invitations, that they can get passed out, which is kinda the point of this thread.

--- Quote from: brandie ---*shrug*  Like I said, I honestly don't know very much about this stuff.  I understand now that it wasn't him just "fixing" it, but I also don't see why they couldn't just say "OK, well, we'll give you a warning but if you use the right client we won't ban you."
--- End quote ---

Well the fact of the matter is that if you know enough about bittorrent to make your client fake its ID, then you should know that it's a really stupid thing to do. From Oink's perspective you were trying to deliberately cheat the system and thus they banned you straight away.
It may very well been your boyfriend who did it, not you, but that doesn't negate the fact that it was bannable offense. There's no reason to download the Transmission source and then edit it send fake client IDs. It would have been about a hundred times easier to just download a proper client.

In conclusion, I don't know what the fuck your boyfriend was playing at, but I would advise you against letting him do it again.

I might seem a little harsh, but you need to realise that Oink were entirely justified in instantly banning you. If you realise that it was a big deal not unfair mods, then hopefully you won't do it again. I'll talk to some people about getting you back on if you make sure you get a proper client. What was your username on Oink?

brandie:
I do absolutely understand that it was a big deal to them, or else they wouldn't have gone to the trouble of banning me.  And I was/am definitely willing to go with the right client now that I understand what my boyfriend did was against the rules.  I had offered to switch to another client that night in the Oink help room, but I know they had no reason to trust that I would actually do so, so they said that wasn't acceptable.

I'm sorry if I was coming off more indignant than what i should be.  I do understand now that I was breaking the rules.  I just felt the punishment was slightly more harsh than the crime, because I'm totally willing to get a proper client.  If you could talk to them, that would really, really be the kindest thing.  My username was brandienaked.
