Silver Jews!
pcp:
Alright, everyone. I went to see David Berman and the Silver Jews play last night in Ann Arbor. Oh-my-everloving-God, was it phenomenal. Bob Nastanovich played in an impromptu band titled "Spiritual Family Reunion" with this lady, Pattie LaMay from Nashville to open. Later on, a couple friends and I hung out with Bob as the Jews played. He gave us shots and stuff, that was nice. Berman was genius-on-stage, perfect, perfect songs. If any of you are looking for something to do Easter Weekend and live near either Madison, WI, or Chicago, you should check the Silver Jews out. They're playing the 16th in Chicago, and the 17th in Madison.
For those dates, they're playing with one of my favorite new acts, "Why?" Why? is a bunch of guys from my hometown, Cincinnati, who moved out to California and currently make some of the most interesting music around. It's a weird blend of indie-antifolk-hiphop, and it's great. Yoni Wolf, their vocalist, is completely insane, and his lyrics reflect that quite well.
I know I'm gushing like a fanboy, but that's probably because I am. It's good shit. You can hear tracks from Why? on Anticon's website
Inlander:
You lucky bastard, getting to see the Silver Jews live! I strongly doubt they'll make it all the way out to Australia.
I love the Jews, American Water is one of my favourite albums ever (as I've said numerous times before). It never ceases to baffle me why they aren't more popular.
Also, first person in this thread to say "Pavement side-project" gets slapped.
Spartan Pho3nix:
American Water is so far above any of their other albums, it's almost a sin. I wish he could just keep producing more American Waters. And we need more Malkmus and less of Berman's wife.
I think the Jews are better as a Pavement side project than in their own territory.
Inlander:
SLAP YOU!
Tanglewood Numbers is pretty damned good. American Water is a hell of a long way above most albums produced by most bands, so I'm not holding my breath for a repeat performance.
Storm Rider:
Man, I totally wanted to yell that, even though I don't listen to either.
