zombie movies
soap:
they're great and everyone loves them, but what are your favourites ?
why do you like them ?
and besides the "big hitters" like the romero trilogy+1 and fulci's zombie flesh eaters (aka zombi 2) what's worth watching ?
personally, i'm still a big fan of the 'classics', night, dawn and day are all amongst my favourite movies.
i love the way the zombie apocalypse is almost a back drop to the human survival, unlike some which are purely about OTT bloodshed. i like the way the walking dead comic series has picked up this idea too (without the limitations of low budget film making) and let us into the lives of some survivors as they try not to be torn to shreds.
i have to say i was a little dissappointed by land of the dead, but only because having a comparitively large budget seemed to give romero a slight case of moneyitis. so whereas before we might've seen a clever little suggestion of violence or a lot of tension building moments, in land we got zombies popping up in full view left right and centre.
another thing which has just sprung to mind, zombies seem to be the only movie monster that can still be creepy/scary in the glaring light of the afternoon sun, all of the others need to stalk about in the dark (well most of them anyway)
[sorry if this has been done before]
Ravenbomb:
Shaun of the Dead and Versus
mberan42:
28 Days Later
Kirbo:
Evil Dead, Evil Dead 2, Army of Darkness.
Sure, it's Deadites not Zombies, but still, these fucking own.
cuchlann:
I have a fondness for the Re-Animator movies, based (loosely) on Lovecraft's short story, Herbert West, Re-Animator. There are three of these.
Also, there are some Army of Darkness comics (adaptation of the movie, I think), but the company is doing/has done an AoD Re-Animator crossover. The first issue is good - I think I spotted 1-5 at the local shop.
Walking Dead is really good, soap. Kirkman's pretty cool, too. Admitted to my class he purposefully wanted to use more dialogue in that series than one normally finds in a comic book.
