Rickenbacker's in the wild... (Help me be right)
Sydney:
I'm one of those people who has to always be right. But the thing is.. I always am, so there.
The story so far....
Theres this guy I sit by in one of my classes.. I don't have much choice really because he's the only other person in the class. But he's ok.. Theres just one problem. Not too long ago as we were doing a 'revision' lesson I borrowed a set of speakers from the teachers office and plugged my mp3 player in and played "Private Hell" By the Jam... and had to, as I do practically every time that track comes on, comment on how awesome the Rickenbacker bass sounds.
Now this guy plays guitar. He knows what a Rickenbacker is alright. But.. he says.... he dosn't like the look of it. *sigh* I know... some people are just... you know.. He thinks looks are really important and that Rickenbackers don't look cool.
So we had a "heated debate" on the matter..
My points are as follows.. Firstly, the looks don't matter when it sounds that good (and my god does a good Rickenbacker sound awesome..) Secondley, the Rickenbacker I speak of (something like one of these I believe) looks damn good. So he thinks that no cool contemporary bands play Rickenbackers. Now this guy listens to Kings of Leon and Arctic Monkeys.. that sort of music. So friends, I ask for your help. Join the search for Rickenbackers in the wild, being played by "cool" bands. I have coincidentally seen a Rickenbacker base in a new Snowpatrol video. In the Editors video All Sparks, both the bass and lead are Rickenbackers (I think thats a nice trump card there). But I need more, so if you folks could post any sightings of Rickenbackers, I would be much obliged, cheers.
I won't see him for a couple of weeks now (easter break) so hopefully I'll have a nice long list by the start of term.

The poor bastard...
I've seen Against Me! use them and the Libertines use them so yeah, no decent contemporary bands. Sweet guitars though- if only I didn't get the urge to smash them every time I hold one.
Praeserpium Machinarum:
I think Lemmy from Motörhead plays a rickenbacker, though I don't know if they are "cool" nowadays.
Bastardous Bassist:
Geddy Lee played one. These days I think he mainly plays a Fender, though. I'm personally not a fan of them. I like active pickups much better, and I think they look needlessly vintage. You want a nice-looking instrument, go Modulus:
The Genesis model (pictured) is the most playable electric bass I've ever tried, and it sounds killer, too.
ImRonBurgundy?:
Guy Picciotto. Fugazi. that's all you really need.
