JLM:
Favorites? I'm generally into the more atmospheric/Melodic stuff and the liquid funk rollers. I enjoy:
ASC
Blame
Seba
Fauna Flash
Polar
Alaska
Photek
Klute
to name a few.
dig412:
pendulum :P
yeah its cheesy and melodic, but i like it. and klute are pretty good as well.
MilkmanDan:
All the DnB type buisness Planet Mu are putting out at the moment is damn good. Along with pretty much everything else they are releasing to be honest. The new Breakage record has my favourite break since Hell Hath No Fury by Klute. Which wasn't actually all that long ago, but that's not the point. I want mutilated Amens, not some bullshit rave nonsense (Looking at you here Pendulum, though it pretty much applies to the whole DnB scene at the moment).
Listen to Remarc - R.I.P. and Renegade Snares - Terrorist for some original Jungle buisness. And then listen to some Dubstep, because you've already missed Jungle and Dubstep is blowing up right now. I was too young for the best years of Jungle unfortunately, but it's still awesome.
JLM:
Mutilated Amens were BS Rave nonsense back in the late 90's early 00's. It's why most of the DnB community moved away from it...there's only so much you can do with a single breakbeat before the sound becomes tired.
In terms of rhythmic beat cutting, I'm much more interested in early photek (rings around saturn ftw) and Paradox, who both managed to do extraordinary things without resorting to the amen crutch.
Shaft:
Then you've got the ironic junglists. Shitmat anyone?
I envy artists who can make entire albums using only the amen for the drums.
EDIT: AND STILL MAKE IT INTERESTING.
I noticed the other day that the Futurama theme uses the amen brother loop, albeit unadulterated. I always feel somewhat soiled when I hear it in something commercial, especially when it hasn't been altered in any way, just ripped straight from the song. Hence I fucking hate Idiot Pilot. Listen to "Morae" and wince at the distasteful use of an awesome set of building blocks.
^It's not a crutch. Unless you mean you can use your consequently enlarged penis as a third leg.
DOUBLE EDIT: Will someone listen to "Little Silver Drops" and see what you think? A drum and bass thread is perhaps the best place to advertise.
