A lot of people are posting awful songs... but I think the biggest tragedy of songs like Hotel California, Another Brick in the Wall pt. 2 and a lot of other Pink Floyd songs... is that it was merely overplaying that ruined them. Classic rock stations are some of the worst offenders of overplaying, because not only are those two songs seriously played every day and maybe more... it's been this way for like 30 years now. Shitty pop music is always awful and is getting worse all the time, but at least the songs are only around for a year or so and then are dropped forever. But "Comfortably Numb" will be around forever. When we're all elderly, we'll be sitting in someone's car someday... and they'll have a goddamn classic rock station on... and you'll hear those same Pink Floyd songs, once again.

At a Kohl's once I saw a rack with AC/DC and Pink Floyd flip-flops on it. A bit unrelated, but so telling.

I for one would not mind at all if every time I would heard 'Hotel California' it was replaced by a cover I heard the Cat Empire do, in french, with just a harmonica behind the singing.

I like the Hell Freezes Over "Hotel California" recording the best. I also don't listen to the radio enough to be sick of certain songs.

Kenny Rogers' 'The Gambler'.

This one hasn't been ruined so much by radio, as by drunken fuckers shouting it on the bus as I go home from work late on a Friday night.

Azerbjaan - The Cut

Don't worry... you're lucky and you won't have heared it. I wish that I'd never heared it... or performed it... or written it...

God damn do I ever hate high-school rock-band memories. If we had a DECENT music teacher at the time, they would have taken us out back and shot us.

Man, give me Kelly Clarkson over (post-Syd) Floyd any day.  Give me inconsequential fluff over genuinely excrutiating rubbish.  (Haha, sorry, they have their moments, but surely 'Dark Side of the Moon' sales suggest they're the most overrated band ever!)

Of truly horrible things I stand a reasonable chance of hearing again, I guess I have to pick something from the Chili [sic] Peppers.  Sadly it seems like 'Californication' is going to stick around...  I hope Smashing Pumpkins' 'Today' has died the death it deserves.

There's lots of unpleasant stuff I respect but don't want to hear again... definietly Diamanda Galas's 'Vena Cava' is in that camp.  Terrifying. :(

It's a Dub version of the album. Not rap.
Try to get it, it is brilliant.

Scars by Papa Roach.

It's dropped mostly out of rotation now, but everytime it manages to sneak back on the radio I once again try to work my head around how some middle school kid's shitty poem got put on the radio.

Wait, you pick a Papa Roach song and don't go for Last Resort?

I am so tired of hearing Last Resort in every mainstream rock related list or place all the time. More than that, I am sick of hearing everyone go "Papa Roach sucks but Last Resort is a good song" right after it.

I guess I didn't choose Last Resort because I enjoyed the song for a fleeting moment.

Basically, I just plain don't like Papa Roach.

My Chemical Romance + Papa Roach = 2{music I could do without hearing again}

"Breaking a Habit" by Linkin Park. I found it to be a rather nice song (for LP's standards), and the music video was decent, but that was before it was played FORTY THOUSAND TIMES A DAY

Also, Coldplay - Clocks.

I've heard this song so often it makes me cringe.

And I don't watch TV or listen to Radio a lot, so you can imagine what it takes for me to hear a song so often that it hurts.

Black Eyed Peas.

That was it!! I was abstaining from posting in this thread because I couldn’t remember what band it was that really made me cringe with pure hatred and disgust, but it’s the Black Eyed Peas. I really get noticeably aggravated just thinking about this band and the fact that they’re huge. I want to slap that long haired dude because in every picture I see with him in it I can tell that he thinks he’s just the best thing in the world…but he’s not, he sucks. “Hey buddy, you suck” I want to say, and then slap him. Oh god, cut your hair jerk!

Before they hooked up with Fergie (horrible skin and all), they used to be a bit political.  Rapping about society; things with meaning.  Now?  Fucking lady lumps? Now that's taking selling it out, and assfucking it till it dies a horrible bloody death.

Most of the stuff listed in here, plus anything by Alanis Morisette.

That song "Ironic" is so fucking dumb.  She doesn't even know the meaning of the word

Well it could be said that she is really intelligent because of the irony in making a song called ironic which holds no real ironic content. But then it could also be said that she’s just dumb and doesn’t know what the word means.

Yeah I think she's just shit at knowing what irony is, rather than making the whole song ironic.

I tihnk it could be argued that making a song called "Ironic" with no ironic content, is not ironic at all.

Gah.. I think you're shooting a dead horse in a barrel.  Or flogging a fish.  Or something.  I got more tired of people complaining about the poor examples of irony in that song than I did of hearing the actual song, and now it's still going, a million years after the song faded from my memory?  Odd.

Sorry, being surly after a long day.

Sublime - What I Got

Even though I never listen to the radio, I still can't manage to completely avoid this song.  Plus it's the soundtrack to every post 1995 frat party.  I would also like this song erased from my memory.

Definitely: John Farnham - Man of The Hour.

I used to work for a place which had a particular radio station set, and would hear that particular song twice a day without fail, for six months. I could sing practically the whole thing off by heart, if i didn't shoot myself first...

Sure pop stations play each new hit once every DJ rotation, but at least they stop when the song is more than X weeks old.
