Freaking Awesome Album Covers

timehat:
I'm going to un-nominate the Porcupine Tree cover, because Deadwing pales in comparison to its predecessor both musically and visually. I remember the first time I looked through the album art of Deadwing, I was pretty disgusted. Normally, when it comes to album art, I either like it or I don't care, but I felt a strong distaste for that album.

Now for one I do like, Popul Vuh's Einsjager & Siebenjager:

--- Quote from: KharBevNor ---With those King Crimson albums though...what's 'proggy' about them? They could be for any band. Not to mention that loads of albums that aren't metal or prog bear similiar things.

Yeah, fair call, my knowledge of whose music they're representing probably colours my opinions.  I can explain what I don't like about each one, but not sure what the point is?

Semi-coincidentally had some friend recommend I check out the art of Stephen O'Malley (Sunn O))))))))))), Southern Lord records) and was surprised that it's packed full of wireframe type geometric shapes, sans-serif fonts, super-saturated photos.. all the hallmarks of 90s electronica..  There was some Earth gatefold LP with beautiful close-ups of flower beds!

KharBevNor:
I don't think covers necessarily have to represent a certain style at all.

That said, I absolutely adore a proper, overall use of the black metal aesthetic. Particularly the old unreadable logo and grim photo combo.
