From page 10 of the Oblivion manual:
Left Click - Equip or use item
Shift + Left Click - Drop selected item
Left Click and Hold Mouse Button - Drop selected item in grab mode

If you're playing on the 360 hopefully the same page will tell you the 360 way to do it.

Hammer away at a whole lot of random buttons until something happens.  That's the way we do it old skool.
