--- Quote from: tommydski ---
--- Quote from: jedit ---Radiohead are The Smiths Lite.
--- End quote ---

i like both bands but i fail to see the resemblance.
--- End quote ---

Well, "fronted by a whiny cunt" is a good start.  I suspect you're not thinking of Pablo Honey when you think of Radiohead, though.

--- Quote ---according to the band themselves, the pixies were who they pilfered from liberally at the beginning, then autechre and on the last album the fall.
--- End quote ---

<shudder>

To what depths must you have sunk if you want to sound like Mark E Smith?

--- Quote ---
--- Quote from: jedit ---They have no purpose for existence beyond that as an object lesson in why the British music scene turned into shit after 1990.
--- End quote ---

i'm sure they didn't form with that in mind.
--- End quote ---

Perhaps I should have said "reason" instead of "purpose".

--- Quote ---as much as i like the idea of a band forming in order to be shit. actually, i think the darkness may have done just that.
--- End quote ---

In a word: yes.

--- Quote ---seriously though, there has been some great british bands since then.
--- End quote ---

There are always good bands.  They just don't define the scene because people are too busy listening to shit popularised by morons.

Kai:
Hey, guys, let's not have Radiohead arguments. We've had them before, and they're pretty fucking retarded and you're not going to change anyone's mind on anything.

Scandanavian War Machine:
Yeah there's really no point in arguing about it; it wont change anything.

besides, radiohead sucks anyways</joke>

--- Quote ---Death Cab for Cutie - a Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band song
--- End quote ---

You sure about this?  I don't have a link to my information, but I recall Death Cab stating that their name came from a line in the Magical Mystery Tour movie.

I believe Skyclad comes from the Wicca term for nudity.

Orbital got their name from the M25 Orbital Motorway that circles London.  They began their career at the rave scenes that occurred outside this highway.

LFO (90's British house music, not rubbish American pop trio) stands for Low Frequency Oscillation.  The Low Frequency Oscillator is a part commonly found in most synthesizers.

Led Zeppelin's name came about from a joke one of the members (I believe Jimmy Page) made in a bar.  When talking with one of the other future members about the possibility of forming a band, Page said "that would go over like a lead balloon," with Led Zeppelin being a small variation of that.

While I'm not certain of the connection here, the current artist/group Aqualung may be derived from the Jethro Tul album of the same name.

I'll try and think of a few more.

I suppose none of the ones I've listed are "stealing" per se, but I still find them interesting.

Kai:
I actually said Skyclad in response to tommydski saying something about good English bands since 1990.

Death Cab got their name from the Magical Mystery Tour movie, yes, but it was from a song in the movie, which was the Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band's song, Death Cab for Cutie. BAM, I KNOW THE FACTS

I AM LIKE A FUCKING PSYCHIC OR PROPHET OR SOMETHING
