Talk Talk - New Grass

Laughing Stock is very good.  I'm glad got it, even though there were so many other albums I was contemplating.

Narcissus (R.I.P.) - Becoming Leviathan.  These guys were really good friends of mine back in the day.  John Pope, the singer, had some of the best vocals I've ever heard.  He had this extremely vicious scream, but also could really belt out with some pretty strong pipes as well.

Therion - Lemuria

The Mellotron in this song, it's just so beautiful... Theres a segment on the Celebrators of Beccoming DVD about the recording of Lemuria and Sirius B, Cristofer pulls apart the mellotron and shows you how it all works, pretty interesting.

I just got Final:3 (Justin Broadrick's ambient project) and I'm listening to it now, It's pretty good though not up there with Jesu and Godflesh, however, I've only heard 1 song.

Aereogramme - My Heart Has A Wish That You Would Not Go.  Apparantly this is a "twee" title, I don't know.  I like it.  It's rather pretty.  Not what I was expecting based on what I'd read about them, but I really dig this.  I was expecting more of a Mogwai-esque sound, but this is less guitar oriented and just...I don't know, pretty.  What do you guys think of them, anyone who may have listened to any of this band's material?

Star Condemn'd is an awesome album. But I've never been able to decifer the lyrics as the album is dedicated to Lord Byron I can only assume its based on one of he's works.

Mutilation-Death

As brutal and raw as Scream Bloody Gore is, I'm much more a prog guy, and like Death's later albums a whole ton more, that being said, this album is still amazing as it was pretty much the first true death metal album (released 1987). Terrible bands all over the world cite this as the reason they exist.......just like the rest of the death metal community

Interesting side note: Chuck Shuldiner died the same day my sister turned 13.

i recently started listening to okay, and i gotta say i'm really enjoying it. musically it's sorta typical indie rock, maybe a little more inspired in some ways than many more traditional indie rock bands. at least i find the music a bit more interesting. and the lyricist, Marty Anderson, of howard hello, lazarus, and dilute, is terrific. his voice, nasaly and a bit rasping, is very original. it reminds me a bit of a male coco rosie, or, at times, joanna newsom for some odd reason. either way he's great. lyrically nothing stunning but very nice nonetheless. any fans of indie rock with a little spin should check this out b/c it's realy quite good.

Mare - Self-titled EP.  This is Hydrahead music, for what that's worth.  I'm not sure exactly how to describe these guys.  Let me try this, though I'll probably be wrong:  Picture if you will a band comprised of members of Pelican, Mogwai, Jesu, and some dude that can alternate between singing like a choirboy and screaming like a banshee at the drop of a hat.  It's kind of like that.  Anyone interested in proving my description to be misleading can go here and help me find a better description of their sound.

Right now I'm listening to Eels' Blinking Lights And Other Revelations. The vocals aren't really my favorite, but I just love the feel to the music. The tinkly piano and the string section in most of the songs on this album give it a lullabye feel, though it would have to be an extrememly depressing lullabye.

If you see this album in a record store, see if you can listen to Railroad Man. I really like that one.

Snow Blind by This Empty Flow. Freaking awesome band. THe guys who where in it also used to be in Thergothon, one of the first (and still best, IMO) funeral bands around. But This Empty Flow doesn't sound like that at all. It's kind of Poppy Shoegaze, with a massive Cure influence, and there's still some pretty epic moments here and there. I would seriously recommend you all get Magneta Skycode by them, as it's an amazing album.

A wonderful Swedish band who makes stupid covers.
Their best cover so far is the cover of "Baby hit me one more time" (it even beats Travis' cover), I didn't know harmonica would fit that song that good.

I don't know, man, "The Crunge" is irresistible just because of that cheesy-as-sin keyboard feature by John Paul.

I've been meaning to check out more Grave Digger, only thing I've heard is "Rhinegold", which wins because of the shear awesomeness of adapting Wagner's Der Ring des Nibelungen

I'm currently playing:
Hollenthon - Premonition, Lex Talionis

Hollenthon are fucking awesome, I guess you'd describe it as Symphonic Death Metal. Doesn't really sum up their sound though, maybe like a folkier verison of Therion's Lepaca Kliffoth.

I guess it's like old school death metal meets world music influences, lots of Classical\European, Celtic and even Oriental and African sounds mixed in with the music. One of the tracks on "With Vilest Worms to Dwell" is an adaption of one of Prokofiev's Ballets

Hugely reccomended, I wish Martin Schirenc would put out another album.
