Bonkers in that great Finntroll way. Steelpan, flute and a trollish metalattack you say? I was just thinking the same thing!

Elend - A World Within Their Screams

It's a motherfucker of an album and undeniably good but I can think of few things that are as pretentious as french spoken word.
He even says "mort" a couple of times as well as "esclave". The whole storyline(if there is one) is completely lost and so the spoken word is unnecessary to a non-french speaker like me anyway.

Such Great Heights - The Postal Service.

I just found a Ben Folds cover of this song on youtube, so I had the listen to the original after hearing that. I know this isn't the absolute most covered song, but I'm beginning to think it's at least one of the most covered.

My Dying Bride - Seer Me '93

I think this version is amazing when I have time to kill I ike to sit down and play along to this on the Piano.

Aaron's vocals are really good here too:

"We Dance and the Music Dies"

Gives me shivers...

Perfect lead in to the rest of Turn Loose the Swans.

Damn right, that song is epic in its own way. Absolute beauty in simplicity.

If These Trees Could Talk - Malabar Front

A lot of post-rock type bands, I can take or leave depending on mood, but this is one CD (and this song in particular) which I can put on anytime and always grabs me.

Yeah it's amazing how well it worked, I was reading an interview somewhere  and they talked about that track, apparently they were having a rehersal and someone started banging out the chords to Seer Me on a piano as kind of a joke and the rest of the band went, holy shit thats amazing and the song grew from there.

My Dying Bride - The Snow in My Hand

This is My Favorite MDB song, incredible.

Turisas - Cursed Be Iron

The new CD just found its way onto the internet and damn is it sounding promising so far. About 1/3 of the way through and it's a lot heavier than Battle Metal, with a great mix of vocals styles - the heavier parts of this song are sick. Any metal fan, however casual, should give this a go.

Heroes.

Way before my time (like a lot of my stuff), but still, ever since I heard it, I can't help but think of it every time I hear anything remotely reminiscent of the phrase "we could be heroes."  At least this time it's a good song - I can't bear to hear the word "beautiful" anymore.

Also, greatest conservative rock songs?  "Won't Get Fooled Again" makes sense, as much as The Who would like to deny it, since it's basically a rock version of Reflections on the French Revolution (great, now I can't help but wonder what a rock song so entitled would sound like).  So does anything by Rush or Lynyrd Skynyrd, and maybe even "Taxman," but Heroes?  Really?

Pain of Salvation - Diffidentia (Breaching the Core)

I'm enjoying it, though it's hardly the first time I've ever heard the song. Be is by far my favorite POS album, as it represents an extreme departure from their previous sound, one that sets them apart from any other band I've ever heard. It's actually the album that sold me on the band. As soon as I heard the opening strains of Imago, there was no hope left for me.

The Go-Betweens: 16 Lovers Lane.

They just had a Go-Betweens tribute concert on the T.V., and it got me thinking about how when I die one of my greatest regrets will be not going and seeing Robert Forster and Grant McLennan perform live when I had the chance. I could have gone, easily, but I just couldn't be bothered. I still can't believe Grant McLennan's dead.  48! He should've had at least another twenty years in him. Life just isn't fair sometimes.

Anyway, this is a beautiful album. Go listen to it.
